The link isn't fixed up top yet, suckers.
ASE's review of The Sewer Goblet: The gameplay was fun for the first 30-45 minutes. By the time I got to like Level 16, I didn't really feel like going much further. I mean, the intro cutscene is fantastic and hilarious, the character selection screen is a journey in itself, and when you first start out exploring it is really fun learning how to use your character efficiently and intelligently, etc.
However, I don't think this is something you can beat without saying "man, i gotta put this down for a while." The way I see it, as you progress through the sewer levels, the game gives you little reason to motivate you and get EXCITED for the upcoming levels. The game could use some NEW things either halfway through or progressively throughout the levels. I never found any memos that were above LVL4 as a requirement, and most of them were repeats of ones I already had (I only used 5 of my 10 slots). I mean, the monsters and baddies changed, but I don't think that was enough. Perhaps the game would have fared better with some sort of character trade-off system where you can switch to another Wu-Tang member DURING the game as opposed to being forced to use the same character the entirety of each play through. I mean, I'm not saying SWITCH AT ANY MOMENT because that would get kind of gay and overabused. Maybe every 4-5 levels?
I apologize for being really harsh with this, I realize it was made for a 2 WEEK CONTEST. It's just that I got so excited when I first started the intro and got all TALES OF GAMES WHOOOO hyperexcited, and then I continued to be fulfilled while playing the game, but didn't think that this would be a tales of games game that i would actually willingly put down. Still, I'm going back to play it right now because I wanna try to play as another character (it DOES have replay value this way!).
P.S. Everyone did a great job! konix's graphics and sprites are phenomenal, gz obviously worked his ass off, and aside from the annoying music during the intro Drule's music was fantastic, and obviously congrats to chef for being able to realize his wu-tang baby idea! (and great job to everyone else) Basically BOTTOM LINE this game could have been much improved with more time and PLANNING
