The link isn't fixed up top yet, suckers.

ASE's review of The Sewer Goblet:
The gameplay was fun for the first 30-45 minutes. By the time I got to like Level 16, I didn't really feel like going much further. I mean, the intro cutscene is fantastic and hilarious, the character selection screen is a journey in itself, and when you first start out exploring it is really fun learning how to use your character efficiently and intelligently, etc.

However, I don't think this is something you can beat without saying "man, i gotta put this down for a while." The way I see it, as you progress through the sewer levels, the game gives you little reason to motivate you and get EXCITED for the upcoming levels. The game could use some NEW things either halfway through or progressively throughout the levels. I never found any memos that were above LVL4 as a requirement, and most of them were repeats of ones I already had (I only used 5 of my 10 slots). I mean, the monsters and baddies changed, but I don't think that was enough. Perhaps the game would have fared better with some sort of character trade-off system where you can switch to another Wu-Tang member DURING the game as opposed to being forced to use the same character the entirety of each play through. I mean, I'm not saying SWITCH AT ANY MOMENT because that would get kind of gay and overabused. Maybe every 4-5 levels?

I apologize for being really harsh with this, I realize it was made for a 2 WEEK CONTEST. It's just that I got so excited when I first started the intro and got all TALES OF GAMES WHOOOO hyperexcited, and then I continued to be fulfilled while playing the game, but didn't think that this would be a tales of games game that i would actually willingly put down. Still, I'm going back to play it right now because I wanna try to play as another character (it DOES have replay value this way!).

P.S. Everyone did a great job! konix's graphics and sprites are phenomenal, gz obviously worked his ass off, and aside from the annoying music during the intro Drule's music was fantastic, and obviously congrats to chef for being able to realize his wu-tang baby idea! (and great job to everyone else) Basically BOTTOM LINE this game could have been much improved with more time and PLANNING

This is great so far. I haven't played a lot of rogue likes so the style works fine for me and isn't all that boring. I'm enjoying trying different characters and stuff. I want longer item descriptions, that's my complaint. Nice work Tales of Games.

Also I'm a little confused about the story, is this what Tupac augured? Is the anime baby the wutang baby or am I grasping at straws?

Edit: Also when I reveal the map and can see a bunch of closed in rooms with no doors are those areas unreachable?

oh yeah, what do you guys do to make your movies?  adobe premier?
if you're asking about the trailer then it was made in camtasia studios. It's not too great compared to drule's barkley trailer because this was literally my first time using the program and I was trying to get it done just hours before the deadline and kind of rushed it.

this is actually the first time i ever had my name in the credits of a game that was ACTUALLY FINISHED

and this happened because of (1) fairly worthless bug i found a few hours before the game's release, which realistically negated its own worth because i wasted like two hours of gz's time trying to figure out what caused it as he was DESPERATELY trying to get some sleep

also if it was anybody else programming it i would not have understood how the fuck something this good and well put together could be STARTED and FINISHED in less than two weeks

ps what people don't realize is that this is what gz does to BLOW OFF SOME STEAM after spending 12 months straight of rpg-making. the other day gz was like HMMM I NEED A BREAK FROM FACELESS I AM GOING TO PROGRAM A ROGUELIKE IN 11 DAYS WITHOUT SLEEPING. i was afk at the time and responded with HUH and in the time it took me to finish the cigarette and come back he HAD A ROGUELIKE made.

i really know what grandpa feels like

This game was really awesome. Big props to gz for pulling off a working dungeon crawler in such a short time, its no small feat!
Also I couldn't finish it. I got all the way to the bottom, but died on the way back up because I forgot to watch the hunger level and so died of hunger for no reason :(:(

hey, you guys are on the front page of www.jayisgames.com again!

Quote
The Sewer Goblet - The Wu-Tang Clan and the Wu-Tang Baby (Windows, 9.5MB, free) - From the same twistedly parodical minds that brought us Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden, Sewer Goblet is a roguelike RPG that casts you into the depths of a dungeon to rescue the Wu-Tang Baby. Hunt down treasure, defeat enemies and gather equipment to make your journey possible. As with many roguelikes, once you reach the bottom you have to work your way back up before declaring yourself the victor.

man i kind of wish people didn't know about this, or at least weren't linking to it or anything. the panda stuff is completely retarded and we hate it and only have it there because it was a requirement for the contest, but the game is also unpolished and there's a ton of stuff we want to add and change. i don't know, hold off a little while and wait for a decent version to come out i guess? i mean, yeah, i like this game a lot but if you're expecting it to be anything at all like barkley then you're going to be disappointed!

that's not to say that someday it won't rule though.

I know what you're saying. Every time someone else puts it up on their site I cringe... because they always link it to Barkley and forget to mention how this was a rushjob for a timed competition.

I wonder if this means that these sites follow G&D though.

Okay, so I downloaded and played this. I wasn't expecting Barkley due to the time constraints, but it was pretty fun! I got down to ~L7 (I started going up and down levels constantly as I found new stairs, so like... yeah). I played as the Bushido guy (RZA?) and it was fun setting up traps and such! Counter was neat but seemingly useless... it only ever did an extra 2 damage in exchange for 15 (I think) Hunger plus the weapon swing cost.

ALL IN ALL it was enjoyable and I'll definitely be playing it again!

P.S. I got a "Chef-hater" to download Barkley today, but they complained that it was a resource hog and wouldn't play it . :< Damn elitists....

I've never been good at these kind of games (ADOM, anyone?), but I'll keep trying, just for the awesomeness of it.

ADOM sucks because the author is a pretentious douchebag who has explicitly discriminated against F/OSS. Therefore, I have not played it.

Honestly, this game is probably the easiest roguelike I have played by far (not that that is a bad thing, considering their reputation for difficulty), and I still have not beat it.

i feel like we cried wolf or something. i mean clearly it was never supposed to get any attention at all and people are going to be disappointed when they actually play it, because it isn't barkley (it is still cool though and i like it). basically it just means that whatever we release next has to be really, really good.
