In Praise of Peace

[/center]

For two years, the war has raged on, becoming almost a simple afterthought in the minds of the common folk. There are those who know better, however, and wish to understand it - and then there are those who understand and seek to take out the root of the conflict altogether.

In a story of wars both political and personal, a young man, Padrick Delaney, has declared himself the savior of the country Salenar. A young woman, Carmilla Argot, recently turned head of the private investigations network called the Argot Night, has decided that she must be the one to uncover the motivation of the so-called savior.

Padrick's fellow members of Salvation, his group of anti-war radicals, have set in motion a chain of events that will change the course of war - and the country - tremendously. In a race against time, Salvation and the Argot Night must collide in order to uncover the secrets of Salenar...

Features
-Engage in strategic Charge Time battles, akin to Final Fantasy X and Exit Fate
-Customize characters by attaching Gems that teach new skills
-Experience a dark and personal story of betrayal and retribution

Disclaimer
This demo covers the first three chapters of the game, but some of the menus aren't 100% perfect. The reason is because this is kind of a "game dump;" I made a few hours of the game a while ago and then stopped. I finally decided to release it as-is. Have fun and enjoy, but understand that it is not perfectly polished. It is, however, very playable.

Also, there is some minor swearing and cases of homosexuality. If that offends you, grow up.

Please visit the RMN page.

Also, the disclaimer above is meant to be read. Not every little detail is perfect or finished, but the game itself is completely playable and hopefully up to snuff. I'm probably never working on this again; it's just a release since a lot of people on RMN were interested.

Saga Mara Talon

Saga Mara Talon is a game about some people killing a bad thing called Talon. You can download it here. It requires the RPGMaker VX RTP.

Explore, loot, and customize in a fast-paced coffee break RPG/board game. Choose where you fight and which bosses to defeat to advance North on the game archipelago, eventually making your way to Talon itself.

Your characters have stats, and due to the naming conventions of the buffs/debuffs I managed to create the skill "Wind Breaker" completely by accident. That's how awesome this game is.

Features
-Fast-paced gameplay; beat the game in less than six hours
-Customize the skills of ten characters
-Switch your party at any time - even in battle - to take down vicious bosses
-Open world lets you train and loot where you want, when you want
-Intelligent enemies study your weaknesses and know your strengths

Please note that the game is fairly difficult. Remember to explore, use your items, and most importantly switch up your party if the going's rough. I do not recommend Hard mode for your first playthrough!

I have a mission for you: please break Karsuman and I's battle system. We need people to fuck stuff up and generate bug reports. Since we're not making the game in three weeks (like our previous project, Visions & Voices), our goal is to, you know, not mess stuff up.

You can view the gamepage and the download the game here:
http://rpgmaker.net/games/1743/

It requires the RPGMaker VX RTP, which you can download in the link below. The real game will not require the RTP, and will in fact feature custom portraits/monsters/character animations (think Shining Force or Lufia II) by Karsuman.
http://tkool.jp/products/rpgvx/eng/download.html

What to expect
  • I'll warn you up front, there is some hilariously bad dialogue I threw together for the purpose of low-grade humor.
  • Six playable characters, each one with three unique skillsets to mix-and-match from
  • Artifacts that can equipped to raise stats and grant a temporary skill
  • Probably too much synergy and strategy potential (/hubris, but seriously now)
  • Threat and Hate, basically semi-aggro and pissy-aggro (explained in-game)
  • About 500 stats, only like three of which you need to care about if you... don't care?
  • Optional bosses that will make your balls drop
  • Four difficulty levels. Don't play on Phylomortis unless you have the next forty-eight hours open
  • Roughly five hours of killing things dead

What does it look like
Better than this! I've streamlined the interface a tiny bit more since these videos, so that names are never crunched up and pop-up status effects and whatnot don't clusterfuck each other but rather pop individually.

Why bother
If you like strategy, chances are you'll enjoy this. This isn't a firaga/blizzaga/whateveraga game. This is a game with thirteen stats or something ridiculous like that. BASICALLY, it uses RMVX to make a game that isn't a clone of everything else. Hooray for scripting!

Here are some example skills:

Stasis Freeze an enemy in place for several turns. Greatly increases the target's defenses during that time.
Starlight Blade Deals moderate damage. Restores Chesha's SP based on the number of status effects inflicted on the target.
Illusion Arian turns to mist, greatly increasing his Evasion for a turn and lowering his Threat. If attacked, Arian generates SP.
Prevention Temporarily locks an ally's status effects in place. The ally cannot gain any states or have them be removed.
Longevity Refreshes the turns remaining before any positive status effects on the party wear off.
Dominion Deal moderate damage to an enemy. All allies except Arian absorb that damage in full.
ELLY-MOD v3.0 Select a new element for Nalah's Ariel S46 basic action.
Dimension Door Send an enemy to the abyss for several turns.
Martyr Absorbs all of an ally's Threat.
Succubus Absorbs some of an ally's HP. The ally absorbs all of Chesha's status effects.

Some of these are basic actions, meaning that they don't cost anything to perform and can be used every turn (namely, Starlight Blade, Illusion, and Succubus). Oh, and Stasis and Dimension Door work on bosses.

So! Please destroy our game's mechanics, complain about Hate attacks pwning you, get your PIE to 99, etc. We want to make this game really good.

OH AND FUN FACT: I just realized that I forgot to mention this in the CrazeTutorials: colon: status effects refresh when you reapply them, and "token" status effects (e.g. the description says "adds a PIE+ token") stack! Using Maiden's Faith three times would add three Piety Buff tokens, for example. The limit for all tokens except degens/regens is three; degens/regens can be stacked up to five times. Sorry I forgot to mention it in-game!

Fourteen heroes, fourteen souls, fourteen stories, fourteen goals...

We're all in this together.

Diablocide is the story of fourteen people rebuilding their life. They have banded together to tackle the Demon Tower - a place many know of, but a place that none have survived. It is said that those who reach the tower's peak are granted a wish. Anything can become reality... if you still have your soul.

Features
-Control fourteen heroes at once in epic battles against Demons
-Witness the interaction of diverse people working and dealing with one another
-Explore the less-than-sunny story through short dialogues instead of lengthy cutscenes
-Customize each character with Essence
-Potentially die a horrible death against enemies encountered on the map
-No two enemy groups are the same; each fight is different

They said I'd die. They said I'd die and go to heaven.
But no - that was not enough for me. I didn't want to die. I wanted to live.
In my fear of death, I lost sight of myself and everything I held dear. I made the wrong choice and everyone but me paid the price. But now, with all the things I have learned...I would make things right again. I would correct my mistake and return everything to the way it was before. Dear God...I no longer expect to enter heaven's pearly gates. But please, let me ask for one last favor, one final prayer, if You will.

Ten days, God. Let my body hold out for just ten more days, so I can redeem myself...

Visions & Voices is an exploration-based RPG set in the Montfort village. One man, the Wanderer, has decided to brave the village and figure out what is going on - why the people are vanishing, and why those who don't are going insane.

The version to be released before the end September is an overhaul of the original release three months prior. While the first version of Visions & Voices was created in three weeks' time, the game has been revisited for an extreme overhaul of the aspect system, progression, story layout and difficulty/balance. New content has been added as well - just in case the superbosses aren't enough, there are several new 'uberbosses' hidden in new dungeons.

Enter the village, if you dare - but who are you do stop the apotheosis of a madman?

Features
-Five to ten hours of exploration-based gameplay
-Recruitable allies to find unique skills for
-Fast active-time battles with a unique personality aspect system for stats
-A dark setting with a story told out in a nontraditional manner
-Difficulty settings and the ability to customize the Wanderer - and even play solo
-Many unique weapons and other pieces of equipment to find, steal and kill for
-Talk to your allies with new conversations every day
-Five distinct endings and intelligent interaction that recognizes your accomplishments

P.S. Full credits are found within the in-game help menu, but a quick shout-out to Mac (tiles/characters), milano_cat (monsters), Danny Schneidemesser (final boss track) and Enu/Mr. Bubble (battle system and translation) is due.

Welcome to the Screenshot Threatd.
Craze is the leader now, so you better listen up.

RULES:
  • Post screenshots, not blog entries. It's fine to talk about what's going on in your game, as long as it is pertinent and not excessively long. The definition of 'excessively long' will be decided by moderators on an ad hoc basis.
  • Try to keep it fairly civil. If you don't think that somebody would want to endure reading your retort to something, put it in a PM.
  • When you quote screenshots (or any image, as a general rule), put it in a hide tag or just take the image out of the quote altogether. The only exception to this rule is if the screenshot was near the bottom of the previous page and you don't think many people would see it otherwise.
  • Don't post eighty screenshots within a single page. If you simply must show off a glut of images, put them in a hide tag.
  • Use the GW Uploader (look at the top of the page!). We don't want to look at imagebucketshack ads.
  • Anything I say or do must be done.
  • Post your own screens. If somebody else made them, ask them before you post. Make sure that we know they're not yours!

THE GIMMICK:
So, I'm your government leader now. Sudden dictator, if you will. Here's the deal: I'll occasionally post a theme, and if you post a screenshot that fits the theme, then you'll get a Tax Refund. Nifty, huh? The person with the most Tax Refunds by the 1000th reply gets to make the next topic! For the purpose of member rallying, I am only giving Tax Refunds to people who are not a mod or myself. We've already made these topics! In the case of a tie at the end (or if it's a steady tie throughout), sudden death will go into effect. This may or may not include a CONTEST.

CURRENT THEME: :blarg: (BLARG)
Can you make Craze throw up?

Tax Refunds Awarded:
Cray
Calunio
King of Games
bi0hazard

Note: I made this because it has been TWO DAYS since the last one 'ended' and I was next up anyway. Also, The_Ghost, feel free to repost your stuff here.

As I as browsing, I found this in the google ads here at GW.  It seems to be a blog post (or something) with an amusing D&D/RPG-related quiz. The only downfall is that the quiz totally ignores the Barbarian and Ranger class in the questions, but you can probably get the as results.

* Craze /! is a Lawful Good Gnome Paladin.

So.

Who/what are you?

(BTW, the site as a whole seems pretty nifty for RPG-inclined folks, so it might be worth checking out even if you're not interested in taking the quiz).

I'm surprised I don't see many topics about great Flash games. Maybe that's because I'm a Newgrounds whore and you guys aren't, but whatever. Let's share our favorite flash games~!

XENO TACTIC is an amazing Defense game. Yes, it is better than any popular Defend Your _____ game involving stupid stick figures. This game gives you a field, occasionally with some obstacles, and six turret types to place where you wish. Turrets can be upgraded, but that costs money and time- which is precious in XENO TACTIC. You only get resting periods if you manage to herd aliens into a death trap and finish that wave off before the next one comes in 2 seconds later.
XENO TACTIC is very hard, looks great, sounds great and has unlimited strategies.

Evil Nights has a terrible name and can lag somewhat. It's a strange RPG/Defense hybrid where you can turn your wizard into a vampiric, teleporting fiend; a hardy mage that simply won't die; a cleric that relies on crossbowmen for defense and spends time running around healing buildings and people; a mage fond of slinging thunder and lightning constantly with no regard for the town and so many other possibilites. Again, it can lag a bit (especially if you teleport into a large clump of demons), but it nicely balances the strategy of an RPG and the difficulty of a platformer. Indeed, this may be the only RPGish game where jumping does you any good.

-Red-. Holy shit. It's a space invaders game with creepy music, simple graphics (but anti-aliased!) and some awesome physics. The aim of the game [sic] is to push meteors off of the screen by hitting them with little balls and big balls. You have little ammo and it  replenishes slowly. Extra bases can be tricky to defend. It has gigantic boss meteors that take up the entire screen. Sooooooooooooo cooooooool.

Sinjid: SotW on the top of your browser window means that you're playing a pretty cool RPG with lots of customization. Plus, you're a ninja. There's not really much else to say... it's a turn-based RPG with customization. And ninjas. Okay?!?!?
