So I just came back from Europe (went to England, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Czech Republic, Italy).

Around Christmas I recorded NO TROPHY MEN EP, with the help of my friends Adam and Gareth.

The idea of this album was to play with these guys' retro style of recording.
4 track
analogue
cassette

As you guess then, the whole production is LO FI.
It has noises, blips, and other stuff that are proper from a BEDROOM PUNK recording.

Recorded on 26th of December 2009

Mixed on 27th of December 2009

Produced by Adam Houghton (of Fly Town fame) and Gareth Watts (of Untitle Head fame, also GaZZwa in this forum)

Mastered on 18th of February 2010

what the hell? what the heck? these actually have some swell composing. shepperd...composing?!? brrrftxvzzvccz.  well played. not commenting on lyrics (suck my dack).  lo-fi compression is pretty functional but i guess it gives a better tone to the sound. i mean it was PROPER but not ideal i think. EDIT yeah i don't know if the lo-fi gave so much to these, there's whole lot of possibilities for lo-fi ambience but i didn't think this was any special/there was any unique soundscapes here!  liked the first three songs, especially That Wall. Born in Between more like bored in between. i didn't always think the vocal melodies worked! like No Trophy Men could have been much better with more thought-out vocal melody. i know it's basically SPOKEN WORDS but i don't see any reason to not to work on those since a whole lot of other lo-fi accoustic guitar musicians pay attention to that. it gives a lot to music.

i don't know what to think about my own review (it blows) but you asked for feedback so heck yea!!!!

meh, not my cup of tea, to be honest. More instruments would be nice, and i'm not a big fan of your singing. But ignoring that, the chord sequences were sometimes really nice, and I can see great songs could be worked out of them, but in this form it doesn't do anything for me. Sorry.

p.s make something for troubs

I gave this a listen because I am no stranger to the 4-track (you guys' 424 is much nicer than my crappy fostex though). It's pretty good, man. I like the way acoustic guitar sounds on tape.

Was it mostly done all live or did you overdub the vocals? Sometimes the vocals seem a little thin like you had the mic closer to the guitar.

Thanks for the replies.
I do agree this is not the best production ever, nor is it the best lo fi production.
It was done very straightfoward, on 2 tracks, one for the geetar, the other for the singing.
