I've recently rerecorded songs and felt like making a post about it if you want to check it out.
Recorded them using Audacity and messed around with vocal layering a bit.

I haven't recorded anything in a long time so it was fun and relaxing to sit down and do this.

Steam and Steel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PArN_xTEy28
Orange Grove    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjfCB-aS4v8

I have more recorded but I am going to redo the videos for them because I wasn't happy. Might just make a bandcamp or soundcloud and upload them all there.

GW Chaingame 2: The Clown Saga

Engine: RM2k3

We’re starting from square one since there were a lot of issues getting this off the ground last time. Let’s give it another go now that the previous chaingame is finished!

Rules:

1.) No AI-generated stuff, not wanting to get into a debate over this but it is what caused a problem last time and I’d just like to try and avoid it.
2.) Puzzles are a-okay but keep the difficulty down to a minimum or at least give people an option to skip them if they fail a certain amount of times.
3.) No overly on-screen visual sexual depictions. Like, making a joke about finding a hentai magazine is okay and subtle innuendo is fine. We want to make it so that everyone can enjoy the game.
4.) I’m not going to be too harsh on a time limit. It took a bit longer to get things done last time but I think it was worth it and because we removed the time constraints in the end I think it resulted in those portions of the last chaingame being better.
5.) Please communicate with me, it’s okay if you need to drop out but just let us know! That way we can make alternative plans.

Current Roster:

Quote
1.) paperjack
2.) Sidewinder
3.) Dosmaen
4.) EpsilonEagle
5.) PianoTM
6.) Riggy2k3
7.) OzzyTheOne

Introduction

In a strange world where humor has been outlawed, one man (Garfunkle) with clown ancestry is destined to repair it. Dive into the mysteries of the C.L.O.W.N. saga and uncover the mysteries of long-lost jokes.
Meet strange folks and bring laughter and joy to a world shrouded in darkness.

Time Length

Each person will be given around a month of time to work on their section of the game, as two weeks seemed like too short a time frame last go around. The length of each section doesn’t need to be that long. At the bare minimum, I’m thinking about 30 minutes for each section of the game.

Assets

Assets should be either public domain (opengameart or itch.io has some good stuff to use), you have the rights to it, or should be made by yourself / a talented friend / loved one. No FF4 / Super Mario Rips. And, for this game please do not use AI Art / Assets.

REFMAP: Tilesets and Character Sets http://refmap-l.blog.jp/archives/cat_202341.html
FinalBossBlues - Tons of great graphical resources  — Some free and some paid. https://finalbossblues.itch.io/
OpenGameArt.org — Art of different kinds that you are free to use in your games.

Communicate

It’s important that we communicate with each other when working on this game. For example, if a life even happens let us know and we can either give you more time or switch out for a backup.

Feel free to reach out to the person who worked on the chapter before you if you have questions about how a particular game mechanic works as well.

Saving

Instead of doing save points, I’m just going to make it so that you can save anywhere. You can disable the menu / save during cutscenes if you would like. But for the most part it should just be turned on and available.

Combat

Combat is not a requirement. If you do put monsters in, try to make them balanced. I’m also going to put in an easy mode at max level for those who wish to avoid being murdered in random encounters. You could also just make your section a really long cutscene or a series of minigames. It’s totally up to you.

Story

There’s no real requirements as far as story goes.

The foundation of the story will start from whatever the first person decides to do and then branch out from there.

Talk about what you are currently playing, or discuss the games that other people talk about here. :wily:

Lately, I've been playing through Dragon Quest VIII. I played it a shit ton years ago and it's been fun revisiting. Love the orchestral soundtrack and the voice acting / graphical style has aged pretty well compared to other games of its era. It's been a lot of fun exploring the world and hunting Metal Slimes. I'd say compared to the other DQ games the story in this one is one of my favorites. I'm just getting to the point where you unlock the casino minigame and I remember spending hours on that damn place the last time I played it. I'm surprised this game has never had a re-release beyond on the 3DS and mobile because it's a really solid game that could just use some minor quality of life things. I've heard they added some new stuff to the 3DS in terms of content so might end up playing that some day.

On the 3DS, I've been playing Chrono Trigger for the DS. Want to try to get through it to check out the extra content at the end of the game.

Besides that, I replay my same damn dark souls games for the millionth time.

GW CHAINGAME 2022-2023: The Maker's Mark Legacy

Engine: RM2k
itch.io: click here
RPG Maker.net : click here

ABOUT

This game is the product of people in the Gaming World community as well as adjacent communities including the Something Classic and RPGMaker.net Communities.

For those new to the concept of a chain game, it's a game made by a group of people in which you build off of what the person before you created. Chain games are a long running tradition in the RPG Maker community dating back when RPG Maker 2000 first released.

Introduction to The Story

Long ago, in an ancient land known as "Gaming World", the precursors found a relic known as the Maker's Mark.

With this power, they were able to create the worlds of their dreams. If they could imagine it, then it would come into being.

Out of the darkness of the hearts of man emerged the Ghastly Darklord. He was bent on bringing about an Age of Destruction. After a great and seemingly unending war, he was trapped away far beneath the Earth along with the Maker's Mark. The descendants escaped the now salt encrusted planet, hoping to find a new home. You are an explorer traveling the stars. In your travels, you hear that nature is slowly returning to Gaming World.
The legend of the Maker's Mark intrigues you, and so you decide to go down to the planet yourself to explore.

Hello y'all, my name is Dosmaen.

Glad to be back posting here. I started posting in the early 2000s but I don't really remember my first sign in date. Went by fantomcrono, dosmaen, #1internetfun, and the bloody ghoast. Most of my post history is gone, so consider yourself lucky that it's no longer here. I was also part of the targ crew. I have made a few crappy lil games here and there but nothing really substantial yet.

I've been working with Madolah and Dada on reestablishing things and managing the myriad of social accounts as well as dealing with the occasional spambot here. I also have hosted a few successful gamejams over on itch.io for the GW community and we're also working on wrapping up the final chapter of the new GW Chain Game.

You can expect me to write random articles / posts, do some gamedev stuff, set up community streams and more!

GW and the people here inspired me to get into a lot of music / creative hobbies that I would have never bothered to even try otherwise.

Thanks x1,000,000 dada for getting this set up. Much appreciated!

We have a discord which is full of oldbies and newbies. Please feel free to join in here: https://discord.gg/E3PFMpfCU2

As you can see if you are reading this, we've updated our forums thanks to the efforts of Dada. Hope you enjoying posting and reading through the old archives. He's also put a lot of work into ensuring that images and other content are restored as well.

Other than that, we've had a few other things go on:

We ran a GW Radio station again for a bit. It's down for now but I'm hoping to put it up again in the future once I have a machine I can dedicate for it.
You can see a VOD of it over here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnhgIpwuS_o&t=12087s

We are almost at the end of the first chaingame, and the second one will be started soon. It's over on itch.io.

JUNEJAM GAME JAM
GAMEDEV: June 17 - June 19
VOTING: June 19 - June 23

Link to Itch.io Page

What the frick is this?

The JUNEJAM game jam is a 48 hour long game making extravaganza.
Come join in the fun and kick the summer off right by staying indoors in front of a computer making a video game! Although I guess you could take your computer outside somewhere too, if that's your thing. Anyways, let's create video games!!
After the game dev phase, there will also be a 72 hour voting phase where people can enjoy your games and then vote.

Votes will be based on gameplay, presentation, and how well it sticks to the theme/limitations. On the date of the competition the theme / limitation will be announced.

There will be some kind of video gamey prize on offer for the winner, too!

The Rules:
• Use what you feel comfortable with
Whether it's X86 assembly, Unity, HTML5, or GB Studio, all are welcome. It's encouraged to use a tool that can export out to as many platforms as possible.

• Work as a team or go solo
If you're really good at one area of game development but need help in others feel free to reach out and partner up. You can find partners on our discord, irc, forums, or on the community page on here.

• Try to make assets within the time frame
You're welcome to reuse small things from other projects, but try to make most of the art sound and music during the time frame.

• Stick to the the theme / limitation
Games are scored based on how well they stick to the theme / limitation. So try to keep them as part of your design.

• Content warning
Anything that's NSFW or overly violent in nature must be fully disclosed beforehand. We don't want people to walk into anything too brain shattering please.

Hi all, Dada was kind enough to provide me with a huge collection of the GW albums so I've been going through them, making sure the tags are correct, and hosting them so that people can access them easy. So without further ado:

Do you remember when this came out? I remember sitting on IRC, messing around with Foobar and Rm2k3 when this came out. It seems like forever ago.
Hope you all have a happy holidays.
