Title: The place of ideologies in today's music
Post by: dark_crystalis on May 29, 2009, 05:31:27 pm
I've been thinking about this for the last few days. The thought occurred to me as I was listening to a Temnozor album for the first time. Temnozor is a National Socialist band. I thought the music was pure joy even though I really don't support their political and ideological position. You see a lot of bands in extreme music that try to push a certain political or philosophical ideal although it's also seen in much more popular music.

What do you people here at GW think of this? Is it ok for a pop star to sing about his/her political, religious, or philosophical way?

Personally I don't mind it as long as it's not in a very preachy way. I can separate the music from the message behind it thus whether the band sings about killing jews or living in peace I don't mind. I must admit I prefer to listen to bands with lyrics that I can support but if the music is good, the music is good.

Also, do you think there are certain subjects that should not be talked about in music?

I'll just start off with this to see how the discussion goes...

What? If you listen to any music that isn't materialistic or sappy as fuck its got ideological, theological, and philosophical tones to it.

You'd have to be some bland, boring piece of shit to make music about yourself or your life experiences your ideas or whatever and not even accidentally pump it full of this kind of shit.
