So my cellphone (Moto Razr) is dying frequently (as in randomly turning off, sometimes mid-conversation), and my warranty expired some time ago - time to get a new phone.
The htc phone with Google Android comes out tomorrow and I am considering picking one up. But before I do, I thought I'd ask here about it, to see its worth the extra cash.
Has anyone used/owned one? What's it like? Is it worth it? Better than the iPhone?

i think it'd be funny to lose one
i don't know which model you're talking to but i think on the whole they're a bit bigger/uglier than the iphone, and more like a pda

yeah that's quite a bit bigger than the razr. that's one of those badboys you need a belt accessory for

Wait are you just asking about android in general or about this particular phone? Because if it comes out tomorrow I don't know how you think anyone here has used one.
-
My friend has it. I don't know, its pretty much the same as an iphone. The iphone has a better media player if you're used to itunes and there's a bigger selection of games and APPZ, but if you don't use that crap I'd say they're about the same.
It also depends on how keen you are on touchscreens, I hate them so I think the htc with the slide out keyboard or a blackberry would be the best ones.
-
It's been out in the US since september, so I'd thought I'd ask. I don't have itunes.
-
i think the iphone looks better. like it looks like it'd fit in your pocket easier. i'm already on at&t so the decision is kinda MADE for me. my razr broke a few months ago and i went in to buy an iphone as a replacement and they told me that i wasn't eligible for an upgrade until like JULY or some shit and i'd have to pay $500 for one if i wanted it. what the fuck is that? fuck cell phone companies. i just used the money to buy a guitar but honestly i don't miss getting to have one. if you are like me and do not text or SURF WEB use your phone very often for anything other than to call people a super SMARTPHONE probably is not necessary.

but my brother has the google phone thing and he loves it and has an ipod touch so he has something similar to measure it against. you probably cannot go wrong and like joe said the actual keyboard is nice. i'm not bit on the iphone's shitty touchscreen keyboard
-
my mate has one of the google phones that is the same as the one in climbtree's post and he fucking loves it. i asked him whether he would get an iphone or that and he said google phone ANY day. software is better apparently and the keyboard is wayy useful. and (i'm not sure about this) anyone can make software for google phones but you cant on iphones (again, i'm not sure i havent checked this fact)
plus it has a touch screen if ya want one anyway. and he doesn't care about the size coz its so awesome
-
I think anyone can make apps (please call them apps not software) for the iphone but they need to approved to get on the iphone app store or something

I have the phone and I can clarify that this is true. The One that has been out since October to be exact. It is the Tmobile G1, the one out today is the HTC magic I think, and there is NO difference. I am a Developer for the phone and I am working on developing a wifi tether app with a group of people. If you need info on how to root/hacl/jailbreak it, tell me.
make sure you know linux command prompts because this stuff gives major headaches.

the touch screen keyboard on the iphone isn't really a huge bother because it has excellent typo correction. I find I can type with a pretty good speed, probably faster than with a dinky hardware keyboard. You can only run approved apps on iPhone but trees basically everything you'd want in the app store for free anyway, if you really need something else you can just jailbreak. And finally you might not think it but design really does make a huge difference and the iPhone is without a doubt one of the best designed phones on the market.

tbh I really dont like the iphone design, it feels weird as a phone
the itouch, its great i dont have to hold it to my ear
-
I should mention that I have fat unwieldly stubby fingers with stiff joints. Great for punching, not so great for phones.
The touch screen's numberpad for dialing is nice and big.
-
hm yeh the keyboard is pretty small. i do really like the software though. and for dialling and shit you can still use the touchscreen.
-
just get an itouch and a cheapass phone like me
