I'm not shitting you.
I've liberated it from him and installed new firmware but I only have a 1 gig MS in there so what I can do with it is fairly limted.
Any of you care to introduce me to the world of PSP? Currently I am playing Metal Gear 2: Soild Snake on MSX emulator but every iso I want to play is larger than the capacity of my memory.
I want to play Crisis Core pretty badly but other than that I know nothing about PSP gaming!
I could do with a good deal on an 8 gig card really...
please, your recommendations!
-
lmao your dad is awesome
-
Hahahaha. Your dad pwned you.
Welcome to the great world of PSP gaming.
-
here's my first recommendation: don't play Crisis Core. seriously, it's so terrible.
secondly what kind of games are you looking for? you can get really cheap memory sticks from ebay, i got a couple 4 gigs for a few dollars
-
loco roco
Is this for the psp? I forget, but it just looks so cute kawaiiiiiii XD
-
monster hunter freedom.
-
yeah ive never played them but the monster hunter games are supposedly good.
if you want RPGs, valkyrie profile: lenneth, and the two starocean remakes are good. you probably need a larger memory stick though
-
I really wanna play PSX games like Klonoa and Gran Turismo. I used to play them so much back in the day before the laser unit catastrophe that actually made me good at school.
Wanna play Portable ops but not that crappy card game based MG. That looks lame ass.
Would be nice to play FF9 considering I never played it. Never completed 8. Not played an FF since FF8 would you believe...
Also yeah you're right. For once ebay is actually cheaper for electronics :D I'll pick myself up an 8gig.

monster hunter was completely out of favor when the first one was the only one available. i remember gamespot did an unnecessarily lackluster review of it saying it was a game about cavemen or some shit, but to this day, I don't think any game I've played tops the experience I've had playing MH. maybe I'm just attracted to underdog games, as I'm also a fan of Ephemeral Fantasia and Shadow Madness (which was given to me for free because my friend hated it). I even liked Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.
but Monster Hunter was a unique experience, that can't be denied. it tried to put realistic motives into a fantasy world, and instead of magic and shit, you were just a hunter whose job was to hunt monsters in order to be able to survive, simple as that. it was cut and clean, and on top of that charming aspect (imo) it had a diverse variety of weapons and armor that you can custom build by carving the hides of fallen monsters. it was just really nifty and it's my favorite game to this day. also the online play was tons of fun, which is absent from Freedom. it's a shame, really, but what's worse is that japan already has monster hunter 3 on top of all the spin-offs and we have MH1 and two Freedoms. I just want MH2, man, what the hell capcom!?!?!
but yeah, get that.
-
when ryan says the star ocean remakes are good he means rpg good, keep in mind. if you liked the originals play them but if you dont like jrpgs you will not find them very good. also uh, play... fuck what's a game that's under a gig? i like crush because it's cool as fuck and like 300mb, and also i guess fft is like 250mb as well. what else. idk go to psp iso and PERUSE; theyve got like everything over there.
monster hunter isnt really fun if you're not playing it online with other people, imo. apparently it's badass when you are, tho
-
I just ordered an 8 gig MS Duo off ebay for £14 so I will be reet.
It's weird how sometimes you're broke and have no money then all of the sudden RANDOM SHIT happens like this.
Do yourself a favour, go ask your parents if they have any current gen handhelds stashed in a dresser somewhere you never know.
-
it has it's offline moments. online is better, but neither mode pales in my eyes.
but ed, when in doubt, do what i do: google that shit. take all the games mentioned here and watch some gameplay vidjas on youtube. don't go with trailers, they lie to you.
-
Isn't Monster Hunter that game that is an MMORPG but without all that MMO nonsense?
Like, it captures the grinding and farming of a true MMO experience but you don't need to deal with all that social crap? I'm pretty sure this is how most people describe it but if I'm wrong I need to get it for my PSP. Maybe we can all play Monster Hunter together...
-
I am playing Klonoa Door to the Phantomile now and it is still as awesome as it was when I was 11.
I am so yay right now :D
-
Monster Hunter for PSP is not online multiplayer, I'm afraid. The first one was a haven for aspiring young geeks who traveled in threes bothering a level 20 "Monster Hunter" to be "super duper member number 4" and help them tackle a duo of wyverns because they couldn't level up if they didn't. Monster Hunter for PSP puts you out with a doubled arsenal of weapons, armor and monsters...but no friends to bail you out when some mad buffalo beast with a barbed cock is carving your buttocks like turkey.
it brings a tear to my eye remembering how I used to be hot shit with my level 18, sitting in the lobby drinking beer in excess in order to initiate the "drunk walk" animation, then hobbling around the room with level 4 "Bone Dusters" trailing behind me going "plz mr can u help me wit kut-ku i cant beet him wit my weak wepns!!!" I was a nice friend on there...I let them have the killing shot so they could phone their mothers about it.
these days I can't even play MH1 online because the server was too old and got taken down. and I'm not sure if Freedom allows any kind of link to other PSPs...I don't know if that's even possible, I don't own a PSP. and besides, the chances that there's someone nearby with both a PSP and MH is like...well, it's more likely that you'll shoot lightning out of your dick.

vagrant story is a really good playstation rpg and it's only like 70 megs
-
I'm watching a vid for Vagrant Story on youtube, and I like it already because of the guy playing it. I'm like 10 seconds into it, I don't even know what the game is about, and the guy already praised the shit out of it, the people that made it and everyone related to them.
-
i heard it was great but i never got into it. wasn't it done by the same guy who did fft and ff12? those were both far above average for square so he is probably the ONE TALENTED GUY they still have hanging around
-
yeah it's in the same universe as fft and ff12 too. it's hard.as.fuck though, so be warned..
but really it is one of the better playstation RPGs.
also i downloaded persona 2 but haven't started it yet panda. how is it? i heard it was one of the better shin megami tensei games
-
holy shit, Vagrant Story has a VATS aiming system.
and the main character's hair is fucking mind boggling.
I wonder if Wild 9 can be put on a PSP...
-
persona 2 is really cool. i mean i'm sure the writing is kinda SKETCHY but the feel of the game is real cool. although saying that, i did not know anything about japan at all when i played it, so for me going through a game where you are JAPANESE REPORTER trying to figure out why a bunch of school kids keep dying was really CUTTING EDGE and different from typical fantasy garbage. anyway it has a cool kinda dreary/hip atmosphere to it and i don't think it feels like many other games, esp. since it's contemporary. the villain is a guy with a paper bag over his head and all the character designs are either weird or creepy. the gameplay's kinda ROUGH being that it's an smt game but i mean, if you are into that kind of shit it can be fun to COLLECT EM ALL and talk to the enemies in battle or whatever. bort and hundley both like it so it's probably pretty good, even in retrospect. i mostly liked it for being really fucking weird.
also if i play vagrant story there is a 99% chance i will cheat since i do this with all games that are above average in difficulty.
-
i have been considering using cheats as i have more games than time but it feels... wrong
also ed is your dad a teacher or how did this happen?
-
MHF games have ad-hoc and if you get a program called x-link kai(and have a wireless router) you can play online, or if you have a ps3 you can get ad-hoc party off the japanese store(soon to be in the US as well) which does the same thing.
Also MHF2 is pretty much MH2 for the psp and soon MHF Unite will be out(should be the same time as US version of Ad-Hoc party), which is pretty much an expansion to MHF2.
Also MH3 is not out in japan yet, though MHG(upgraded version of MH1) got ported to the Wii with a demo for MH3. Given Capcoms recent actions, I think MH3 has a good chance of making it over seas.
-
if you are going to play persona 2 PLEASE play persona 2: innocent sin and tell me how it is!
finding an iso might take some digging but L@@K:

hey what custom firmware should I install on my dingy?
I tried this one http://www.psphacks.com/category/psp-firmware/custom-firmwares
but the psp wouldn't read it. I restarted it with chickenhen or whatever and it just restarted and that was it..

5.00 M33-6
o wait, do you have one of the "unhackable" ones?

well it says psp2001 on the bar code at the bottom. So I don't think so but I might because that stuff won't load. I also updated it yesterday to 5.50 because I had it at 3.49 or something like that and I thought that was the problem. Now it just says "file corrupted" everytime.

Nooooo why did you do this.
If you don't have custom firmware and want it, you don't upgrade to Sony's latest firmware.
-
yeah I thought it was gonna be a bad idea before I did it
-
I'm still way back on 4.01M33 or whatever. Should I upgrade? Are there any features of new CFW I should have that I don't? Please help me I'm so confused
edit: look persona online http://megaten.aeriagames.com/playnow?utm_source=google&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=google&gclid=CJvzyvmB9ZoCFQQrFQodMENeeA

what are the chances of any MH game ending up on 360?
-
Monster Hunter is full of grinding, it's exactly like an MMORPG without the MMO, so boring I didn't like it! To sum it up, it's an offline MMORPG if you know what I mean.... About the 1gb memory card, you can compress .iso files even further to .cso files which take up less space and all play fine altogether.
-
i have been considering using cheats as i have more games than time but it feels... wrong
also ed is your dad a teacher or how did this happen?
he's a lecturer in the area of multimedia so he gets through a lot of kit that is capable of browsing the web
-

considering they moved MH3 from the ps3 to the Wii, i'm gonna say no
To sum it up, it's an offline MMORPG if you know what I mean
It is neither an MMO or an RPG and it is online(though you have to do some extra work to get it online with the psp versions) so...
I'm not gonna lie, there is a lot of grinding quests to get that one item you need for the weapon upgrade you need and if you don't have some friends to play with, the game isn't as fun as it could be.
-

i figured it had been confiscated and since it had been in his desk for so long it obviously wasn't going to be picked up. what's the battery life like?
-
It lasts about 3-4 hours which is not bad considering the length of time it's been in a drawer. I am pretty hooked I'm not sure he'll be getting this back off me.
-
monster hunter is really good

i've managed to play that on my psp. took a bit of tweaking to keep it from freezing at battle loads, but it wasn't too hard.
as for the game itself, it's pretty good. unfortunately though, the competent narrative is constantly interrupted by long grinding sessions for experience and tarot cards.
It's a JRPG and don't forget it, but it's not bad for one. It hasn't aged too well though.
-
Talking about Persona, theres been one out in Japan, it's coming to the USA and Europe sometime in the late winter I think...
-
Jeanne d'Arc is the best PSP game in my opinion.
-
I am playing through Crisis Core FF7 and really enjoying it. A lot of people on here were really negative about it but then I guess that's just this place. I will check out that game you just mentioned when I am done with CC :D
-
But your a VII fan still so.. Seriously the game is shit but were all entitled to our own opinions. A game I'd reccomend is Daxter, God of War Chains of Olympus, Burnout Legend, Syphon Filter, Wipeout Pure/Pulse, and that's honestly all I can think of right now sadly. I can only think of five or so games.. Wow.
-
i liked crisis core too. sure it wasn't great or anything, but it was a solid game.
