Title: Mew - No More Stories...

Mew's newest EP: No More Stories just came out the other day (June 30th, I believe). It's got two tracks from the upcoming LP (Introducing Palace Players & Repeaterbeater) as well as three more B-Sides.

1. Introducing Palace Players
2. Repeaterbeater
3. Owl
4. Start
5. Swimmer's Chant

You can listen to Introducing Palace Players & Repeaterbeater on their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/mew

Quote from: Pitchfork
Epic Danish rockers Mew don't do anything halfway. They make big music with big guitars and big vocals that suggest nothing less than the beautiful, horrible end of the world. And they're readying their follow-up to 2006 breakout LP And the Glass-Handed Kites for release August 25 in the U.S., August 24 in the UK, and August 17 in Scandinavia via Columbia. (That mutated circus clown/butterfly thing is the cover.) And, going with the prog-like scope, the album title isn't a word or even a group of words as much as it's a poem:

No more stories
Are told today
I'm sorry
They washed away

No more stories
The world is grey
I'm tired
Let's wash away

Yep, that's the album title. (How about we just call it No More Stories... for the time being?) As if that wasn't crazy enough, the tracklisting features tiny photos of the same circus clown/butterfly shown on the cover as the titles for two tracks. Yes, the track titles are pictures, not words.

Mew hit the road this summer, touring with Nine Inch Nails in Europe and playing the Pitchfork Music Festival in July.

Check out the No More Stories... tracklist below.

No More Stories...:

01 New Terrain
02 Introducing Palace Players
03 Beach
04 Repeaterbeater

05 Silas the Magic Car
06 Cartoons and Macramé Wounds
07 A Dream
08 Hawaii
09 Vaccine
10 Tricks of the Trade

11 Sometimes Life Isn’t Easy
12 Reprise

Swimmer's Chant and Reapeaterbeater are fantastic, with the layered harmonies and high-pitched vocals I've come to expect from Mew. There seems to be a bit more of an emphasis on the percussion based on this EP, which is kind of cool. I don't really like "Owl," it feels out of place and too synthetic. I'm just hoping they're not trying to be too "proggy" with this whole LONG ALBUM TITLE. Personally, I like the off-beat guitars in "Introducting Palace Players" but I've seen a few people complaining about that being too GAY or w/e.

I'm really looking forward to the full release, as it will hopefully not have random B-sides tracks interspersed. Let me know what you think if you get a chance to listen.

i downloaded it a few days ago on recommendation from DS and I thought it was pretty bleh but I've never been big into Mew in the past either, I'll try it again some other time though I believe, as I really only listened to it through like once.

been listening to the ep a lot in the past week and i fucking love introducing palace players, one of the best mew songs. repeaterbeater is great too and the chorus rocks. i actually like all the songs but the first two are definitely the best.

For anyone who is interested, you can order a physical copy from RecordShopX (http://www.recordshopx.com/artist/mew/no_more_stories_ep/), which I believe is based in Finland.   5,90 € - which I think is pretty cheap for you finns..............

I live in the US and with shipping it cost me $12.64, which is acceptable, I think.

Introducing Palace Players definitely grew on me. The first 50 seconds were kind of "uhhhhh....???" but the rest of it is quite awesome.

Listened to this on my way to work and there weren't really many standout songs but it was nice. Silas the Magic Car was pretty memorable on first listen, as were the songs which were already on EP. Good album based on the first listen but it definitely requires more to sink in.

I don't get how it works. Both songs have fantastic melody and actual lyrics. What the hell.

I've pre-ordered the album and can't wait for it to come out. I was a massive fan of the band's last 2 albums and I really liked the EP so expectations are pretty high. This is probably the album I've been most excited about all year. I know it's leaked but I can't get excited about downloading some files and shoving them in iTunes, I find it really takes something away from the experience of a band releasing a new album. Glad to know that those who've downloaded it have enjoyed it though!

yeah there is no way you will be disappointed.  I hate Mew and I loved this album so I am kind of okay with them now.

After listening to the backwards version of New Terrain though, when I listen to it regularly, it seems really obvious that the background vocals are backwards.  Like it almost hard to listen to now though without thinking of the song the other way.

I listened to this album twice and I don't seem to get it. It's just not for me I don't think.

hahaha dammmn. i swear to god the first time i heard new terrain i thought to myself "i can't tell if this would sound better forward or backwards"

then i went in to audacity and reversed it and listened to it. both versions sounded pretty good, but i couldn't make out any of the backwards lyrics.

ed, if you couldn't get in to this album, i definitely recommend you get Mew's "Frengers" album

edit: also, i'm going to a Mew concert this Saturday in Boston FUCK YEA

It's alright. I like it but I'm not in love with it like I thought I'd be.  I'll give it another few listens and I hope I'm in love with it by that time. Not disappointed though, it's solid.

The Mew show at the Paradise Rock Club was unbelievable. Just like 2 years ago, I was there literally FRONT ROW.

From the new album, they played New Terrain, Introducing Palace Players, Repeaterbeater, and Sometimes Life Isn't Easy. The highlights of the show (to me) were 156, White Lips Kissed (just fucking mind-blowing), and Sometimes Life Isn't Easy. I recorded a couple of video clips that I might put up later but I haven't even checked if they are decent.

I was very pissed that I couldn't bring my DSLR with me according to venue rules, but a guy 3 feet away from me was snapping away with one. ugh. Here are some pictures:

That's really cool ASE, great pics. Talk about jealousy. I missed out on seeing Mew when they came to England because they were opening for NIN so the tickets sold out in like a minute. Sad times.

Nice pics ase. How big was the venue by the way?

I'm gonna see Mew in November when they come to Finland!

It fits 650. so.. a pretty small rock club.

Oh wow, that's a pretty small venue for Mew. Is it just your city or aren't they that popular in America? I think their new album is #2 in the album charts here and they are playing in the same venue as some other more or less popular bands like Porcupine Tree, Massive Attack, Dream Theater, Prodigy, Placebo, Korn, Pet Shop Boys and so on. It's a bit surprising that they'd be playing in a venue of 650 when the venue here can fit in thousands of people. Although I have no clue if they are actually going to use the whole venue.

They aren't popular in America at all. However, they opened for NIN in Europe and are doing the same in the US now, so hopefully this will broaden their reach.

They're opening at a sold-out show at the Terminal in NYC tomorrow, which is a 3000-capacity club. The one in Chicago is 4500. NIN usually plays at much larger venues, so this is pretty surprising imo.
