Title: Configuring domain question
Post by: Dust on July 08, 2009, 08:10:29 am
I just finally setup my old computer to act as a server running Ubuntu. I am using XAMPP to turn it into a web server.

Everything works great! If I type in my ip address, it goes right to my site.

However, here is where I have no idea what to do. I have a domain name which I have paid for. The question is, how do I apply this domain name to my ip address.

I really have no idea where to start. Usually I would just put in name servers into my domain website and everything would work.

Could someone please explain what I need to do now?

I recommend using a service called FreeDNS (http://freedns.afraid.org).

You just point your domain to their name servers and then set your domain(s) and sub-domains to go to your IP from the FreeDNS control panel and it's all good, homie.
