Remember the glory days of playing Worms World Party on Hamachi? Those who played with us some time ago should remember, and for others it should seem obvious how fun it was. Me and ATARI wanted to relive those days, but alas, WWP is incompatible with newer Hamachi versions and the older Hamachi versions do not work online anymore. We tried an Hamachi-esque program, but it did not work. So what do we do?

We found Hedgewars, a Worms-clone. Now, to get something straight: some of you call Gunbound a Worms-clone, but here is the difference: Gunbound is a Worms-ish game, while Hedgewars really is a Worms-clone. The menu and the game are separated, making it look and feel alot like Worms 2, but the gameplay is the very same. Movement is a little choppier, but nothing too bad. It also lacks some polish Worms had, but otherwise, it is the very same thing. Some weapons are different, while still being equal counterparts to actual Worms weapons, while others are inspired and different or outright new. Oh, and obviously, instead of playing as Worms, you play as Hedgehogs.

Some new things are very cool though, like customizing each WormHedgehog on your team with his own hat/mask, which is something present in newer Worms games. Some level themes are also very impressive, like the Underwater levels. The level randomizer also looks better, and the game also supports custom image levels and voicepacks(although we haven't managed to make voicepacks work so far..)

Either way, Hedgewars is a really fun Worms-clone, and our backup game until Worms 2: Armageddon comes out on PC.

We're looking for extra players to join in the fun and get some games going. So far, me and ATARI are definitely in. Come play with us!

I highly endorse this because well, it is pretty much worms and it works online!  There is also an OSX version if that would fancy your palette.

This is absolutely crazy! Worms Armageddon was one of my favourite games ever and this is pretty much an exact clone so how could I not be wildly happy?

Just played it and it sucked. Single player can suck a dong the AI is so cheap.

Played this last night with some of the guys. It was really fun. The movement is pretty lacking (double back flips don't go far back enough at all) and it's not as zany as Worms at any rate. However as a substitute it really is a lot of fun and the banter it caused was awesome as well. I'm encouraging people to get involved.

Haven't played worms in a while, so I forgot how to make the worms hedgehogs jump... Is there a way to do so in this game? I couldn't figure it out.

It's the same as in Worms, but guess you don't remember. Enter, or Backspace to jump in place. Backspace twice to backflip.

When you make a team, there's the advanced tab which covers all controls which you can also change.

never had any problems with lag although I pinged out once during a game the other day but my internet connection that day was really flakey for some reason so I wouldn't blame the game for that one

Hard to explain really. I open up the menu, works fine, but once I try to start up a game it turns all screwy. I think the landscape's upside down and if I have luck I can see one hedgehog somewhere and apart from the landscape and the hedgehog (with data like name and group) everything's either black or white.

To the FAQs I go.

EDIT: It seems to run better everytime I try, but it's still very slow, while my PC is high-end enough, I think.

this topic needs a relevant bump, so here is what is happening in the world of Hedgewars

Apparently they are working on a new weapon that I don't know what it is called, but apparently it is the same as Jet Pack from WWP, which I am excited about, seeing as that was one of the more useful utilities from WWP, although there appears to be a weapon involved in the hedgewars version of it, which I am a little excited about because I feel like it is going to be something really cheap, and in my opinion, they should be working on restoring more of the original weapons rather than making their own new ones, since this is an unadultered worms clone, and to advertise it as anything else is a travesty. 

Anyways!  I've only seen about 1/3 of the people who have posted in this topic on IRC saying that they are interested in playing, and most of the people that are playing now are ones we told about before this topic was made, or ones we directed to the topic on IRC, rather than any of you jokesters who lied about being interested in playing this game on the forums.   Fortunately this can be fixed with a few games of hedgewars on IRC.  Don't think this is dead people just beacuse the topic is!  We are still playing regularly it seems, so the more that we have, the more often that we can get games going, and don't be afraid to tap people on the shoulder and ask them if they want to play.  Just because somebody is not game at the moment, doesn't mean that everybody isn't game at the moment.

most games suck if you don't play with people you know, but if you play with us we will teach you the right way to play, plus it is pretty simple, you just have to understand that it isn't nearly as fast of a pace of a game as some of the other games that you have played that are similar to this.   Also it doesn't help that general hedgewars community is full of pompus europeans.

i'm a bit leary to start up a tournament considering that in the past GW has been pretty bad about people not showing up or not completing their rounds and it ends up just being a tournament between 3 people or something and one of the people is just somebody we found on IRC to play in the place of somebody else!  Whatever though.   It would be pretty rad if some of the players of hedgewars were on sometime and we could discuss some of the details of this (not that there would be many) rather than just jumping in head first (although we could do that if you would rather)!

Well man, I wasn't saying like DO IT NOW. ME VS YOU FIRST ROUND GO GO GO. But if it got proper coverage (like, forum/irc wide) and it became something of a WHOLE OF GW EVENT then that would be really cool. Something people could get excited and create banter about. If not we could do a league or something? That way it'd be a bit more casual and people could arrange matches at their leisure (as long as they all got played)

Last night I had a dream I was in a car park and suddenly had a phone call from ATARI. I picked up the phone and ATARI said to me "Hey, you wanna play Hedgewars?"

I see it as a sign to bump this topic and see if we can get more people. (although I haven't been as involved as I'd like to recently)

i haven't been on to play because my laptop died last week and I just got it back from the apple store literally like 20 minutes ago, so I'm working on getting stuff back together.  But yes, I'm dying for a hedge.

edit:
I really want to start the hedgewars tournament, but I will not be here next week at all, and it is kind of hard to run something when you are not around to run it!  Also I do not know how much time I will have in the upcoming weeks.  That being said though, the options are that somebody else can take the reigns and do this, or it could wait sometime (maybe September?) to start up
