Title: Suggest me Wii games to backup!
Post by: Vanit on July 28, 2009, 11:59:10 am
So I finally got around to hacking my Wii. Set up the Homebrew Channel, worked out how to get USB Loader GX working and then bought a 500gb external hdd dedicated to my Wii so I could backup a metric fuckton of games. Currently I'm cycling games through EB by buying 2 at a time, bringing them home to backup, then returning them thanks to their 7 day trial period, only to get another 2 to repeat the process.

Anyway the point of this thread: have any games worth playing stood out to you guys that I should be sure to get?

First of all, I don't think there's really enough games for you to have to make too many 2 at a time trips.  In fact, you just need to make one:  No More Heroes and Trauma Center.  Have fun.

Zack and Wiki is pretty sweet! Don't let the cartoony graphics fool you. This game gets hard and rewards a thinker.

You could try The Conduit, but really only get it for it's decent multiplayer cause other than that, nothing too special. Also try Okami, Zack and Wiki, Metroid Prime 3, Deadly Creatures, and Resident Evil Archives.

I've been looking for a curling game. Thanks for the info! Does it fully emulate the sport or is this simply a matter of get the rock closest to the centre to win?

I played it, and was particularily impressed with its implementation!  In-turns, out-turns, power, aiming, sweeping - it's all there.  The physics are even pretty good, to boot.  The curl of the rock was about what you'd expect for a quarter turn, half turn etc.  You can play 2, 4 or a full 10 ends, with 8 stones, and they do keep track of who has the hammer.  Whoever made the game has actually curled before.

I found the game in the bargain bin at Wal-mart for $10.  Worth it just for the curling.

I used to do that as for my ps2 and xbox, I mean buying, backing up, then returning the game.  At one point I realized that everytime you return that item they asked for your name, address, and info.  So I stopped.  I assume they keep on record how much you have bought and returned, and I think maybe if you do that too much they'll investigate on why you have been buying and returning then poof they accuse you of piracy maybe.

No More Heroes (my fav Wii game), Metroid Primer 3: Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart  and Smash Bros. Brawl. I haven't played The Conduit yet but I guess it's worth the try.

Okami, Twilight Princess and Resident Evil 4 if you haven't played them before in other consoles. I'd recommend MadWorld too.

And that's it, those are the best Wii titles right now.

Opoona is my fav game on the wii, it's the most unique rpg experience this generation imo and the only game on the wii I play.

plus its only like $5 now but I got my copy when it was $50.

yeh, i'm a hardcore Opoona fan.

really? the battle system's pretty fun and the story is okay but the job system is a huge pain in the ass especially in the later levels where you have almost no direction just a goal.

Yeah I knew some guys that were doing this somewhere to get CD keys from computer games, but there were several of them so they just rotated among them.  It's a pretty dumb thing to do though!  What if it turns out you can't return it, you just spent tons of money on what might not have been that good of a game anyway.  I swear there was a sitcom years ago where this happened, someone wanted all these nice clothes they couldn't afford so they would just buy them, wear them once, and then return them.  Then at some point they weren't allowed to return them and WHOOPS GOT ALL THESE PRICY CLOTHES I CAN'T PAY FOR!

The moral of this post is does anyone else remember what show this was because it's bothering me now :(

Not a fan of such methods myself, but I've been a around the Wii block a few times (closing in on 50 :P) so I'll suggest a few I suppose:

No More Heroes
MadWorld
Tenchu: Shadow Assassins
Mario Kart Wii
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Excitebots Trick Racing (don't let the name fool you, the game is damn fun both offline and on)
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure
House of the Dead: Overkill
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Batallion Wars 2
Boom Blox Bash Party
WiiSports Resort (unfortunately, you'll have to shell out $20 for a Wii Motion Plus, tis worth it though)

I think that will do for now...

yeah it's not for everyone, but it's incredibly unique and its a shame it got so little attention.

you need one of the few dvd drives that is actually capable of reading wii disks. fyi, and they aren't easy to find. can't even find em on newegg. wii disks are written in reverse direction, so most drives wont read them properly

Can homebrew brick your Wii? I was thinking of adding it to my Wii, as well, but I didnt' buy it, so I'm a bit nervous (it's my sisters).

In theory yes if you do something silly like reboot the Wii while you're patching something important. I can't say I remember hearing about any malicious programs for the Wii that you have to be cautious of. In anycase thats why its recommended to patch the booting firmware with an auto-recovery tool, such as BootMii, Preloader (your Wii must be at menu version 3.2x) and AnyRegion Changer can patch one in that I forget the name of should you use it to downgrade your menu to 3.2. But yeah, generally hacking your Wii is safe.

Yeah fobira12, you can find a list of good games here (http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=10275.msg1533719#msg1533719).

Man I love the Wii only for the softmodding. I use that Cover Flow launcher and man is that thing sexy (and functional!)

If you ever played Odin Sphere on PS2, Muramasa: The Demon Blade would be good for you.  And, hell, even if you haven't, it's pretty entertaining.
