Title: Anyone still play WoW around here?
Post by: TFT on August 10, 2009, 10:59:26 pm
I used the free trial and sort of got addicted to it. Do any of you guys play this still? I've been having a blast with it so far. I have to upgrade to the new patch, but I thought I would ask if anyone plays. Maybe we can run through a few dungeons in the future or something!

I still play, but on my brothers account (which I gave to him), and very rarely. I mostly play on my level 1 though. I've rigged it up so I can beat people up to around level 12 and it makes my e-peen feel inflated.

The server I play on is Sargeras, Alliance side by the way.

lvl 80 Death Knight named Dhallus on Shandris -- Alliance side
Got into a raiding guild that allows idiots to join though.  People trying to tank in healing gear.

Anyways, ask me, I have a Guild Recruiter friend who will let you join at 40 if you promise not to suck.

WARNING:  Willing to abandon current guild for any similar one that doesn't bring fresh 80's to the latest raid (Yes, my guild will do this ><)

But in all seriousness, I just used up the last of my membership yesterday. Had a lv 80 Rogue in half epic/half blue gear but I just never got into raiding for better gear. I may come back when a new expansion is released or when I become mind-numbingly bored of all other games.

No, never played it. Probably never will. I don't really have an interest in the world. The gameplay looks a tad dull to me as well, so slow, appears to play itself.

If I'm EVER going to play an MMORPG, it has to be the following:
-Modern or Sci-fi world
-action based RPG
-PAY ONCE FOR LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP, none of this monthly bullshit.
-And an obviousness that the game is going to last. If I'm going to invest money and time into it, I don't want it closing down a couple of months after it releases.

Things I'd prefer but can go without:
It be playable in first person view.

Well. I do like Fallout 3 a lot. but not quite a MMO is it? It be sort of interesting if they made an MMO with the same gameplay as Fallout 3, certainly.

I don't see that happening though. MMO's and fast paced gameplay don't generally mix because of latency issues.

Though I'd prefer (in a MMO's case at least) a space colonization sci-fi for an MMO. Similar to Mass Effect's world. Mainly because it would open up more variety, which is sort of important in a game you spend a large amount of time playing.

I don't really see how people manage to let themselves be sucked into not having a social life unless they're people that wouldn't be social even without the game.  I'm currently in a raiding guild, and most of the founding members are irl friends, and we always schedule shit around the idea that everyone's life outside of the game is more important.

I sold my last two sixties for $220 last time, and they were only in blues. I'm gonna have two eighties in full end-game gear with this overly generous new emblem system they have, so LOADS A MONEY
Basically as long as I earn more money than I spent playing it, I don't feel that guilty. And that's what counts.

If a pally uses lay on hands when he bubbles, he's bad at playing World of Warcraft (which is by no means a hard game. It's not hard at all. Click Click Click

Also fuck this new lore shit. I won't accept this. MAKE WARCRAFT 4 YOU ASSHOLES. MAKE A GAME WORTH PLAYING TO GET THE LORE. It's cool if they made Warcraft 4 and added this new lore and
but goddamn they're using a totally unsuitable medium for this. They're remaking old levelling zones to fit in with the new expansions (and presumably making them higher level areas too), they're taking away faction leaders, they're doing too much stuff that won't work in an mmo where you need to balance factions and players and levelling and gear and all that. JUST MAKE ANOTHER RTS FUCK YOOOOOOOOU

i dont feel like reading the topic but someone explain to me

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/debut-trailer-wow-cataclysm/54775

how is the new expansion going to work, exactly? does the DEFORMATION OF AZEROTH happen to everyone even if you don't buy the expansion? because i just don't see how the players could be in the same zone but see a completely different zone, unless the players who have done the quest or whatever which triggers the deformation cannot be seen in the old zones and vice versa.

seriously i'm confused. :(

gotta say that changing and destroying the world is a pretty cool idea and i'm pretty sure it hasn't been done before!

Post by: The Ghost on August 22, 2009, 10:41:14 am
It's pretty simple DS. You use an item to go into the spirit realm and then you see the other world. You need to get yourself some Sharigan eyes though and also require to be a Worgen or Goblin. Blizzard said that the other classes won't be able to access the new Azeroth (as is at least). I'm still crossing my finger for a Murlock race and a new hero class, Sage. These are some of the stuff that Ghost Crawler mentioned at Blizzcon.

Actually, it's really not. New content and gameplay for the 1-80s, and all the base zones updated to make the best of the systems they've introduced in the expansions (flying mounts, not to mention other stuff).

Uh, how is it bad, again?

Imagine the Barrens. Now imagine a huge fucking lava pit right in the middle. Imagine Silithus with plants.

.... actually, fuck me this looks incredible. I just really dislike what they did with the classes and making the worgen a playable race will probably require some fiddling around story and gameplay-wise, but meh.

Also, Horde get Southshore? After all the fighting I personally, as well as many members of my guild have done, and still do, HORDE get Southshore? This is a travesty... Southshore is Alliance territory on my server. Horde can suck a dick if they make the mistake of going to Tarren Mill.

EDIT: In the trailer, what the hell is that huge pink thing with the goblins. Is that supposed to be an ogre? what the heck is that thing.

I would start a worgen alt when the expansion comes out, but I think new players will die out fairly quickly with this expansion... I mean, it's bad enough getting camped by lv 80s... now you'll get camped by 80s that can fly around at breakneck speeds to camp all areas around Azeroth, thereby killing any hopes of questing/leveling/enjoying the game. Not to mention having to walk all the way around the zone because you can't walk through the pits.

Pro tip #32145: You can play on PvE servers to avoid unnecessary ganking.

Besides, most of the assholes play games like Eve and Age of Conan, not WoW.

Anybody else having instance loading problems on their servers?  I've just spent the last half hour throwing myself at a portal and I'm sick of it.

Been like that on my server since the WotLK came out. But it got really bad when the patch came out and everyone got hard on for Emblems of Conquest. They say they're fixing them slowly, server by server though. Some already have it and it can take months to get all servers fixed.

Post by: HL on August 24, 2009, 03:13:16 am
I doubt the really big servers will ever get it fixed though.

I logged on last night for the 1st time because of all these changes coming. Seeing the original world get morphed by a cataclysmic event is something new to this genre, and since the Warcraft world has had a few of these events already (The great sundering!!!!) it'll be cool to be able to kind of experience this first hand. Since they're revamping the questing in all the zones too and condensing them, I'm almost tempted to roll an alt when this comes out.

I didn't see them posted yet but MMO-Champion had pics of these new systems up and here's some links to the important ones if you missed them:

why do alliance get worgen? they seems pretty evil to me. I mean draenei look like they could go either way (give em a bit of a scowl and maybe some darker/more evil colors and they could be horde easily), but worgen are fucking WEREWOLVES basically. WowWiki says something about how the Forsaken consider Worgen to be super-evil. The Forsaken! What the hell.

I'm a sucker for Warcraft's Lore so..heh...maybe I can clear this up for ya...
See, the first time the Worgen came to Azeroth they were summoned by Elune from their homeworld (where they're fighting the burning legion, too) to fight demons in felwood, and they were led by a Night Elf who had the Scythe of Elune, which allowed her to summon and control worgen. The remaining worgen from this can be found in Ashenvale, they're called Terrowulfs.

The second time was Arugal, and after he summoned a couple, he basically cursed a bunch of villagers to become a new kind. That's why they're all evil and stuff. Then this curse seeped into nearby Gilneas (which funnily enough was completely sealed and also the leader absolutely LOATHES the rest of the alliance so??). And with worgen dead, they're no longer evil I guess. So the worgen you play as are essentially the Forsaken, and Arugal is their Lich King.

THAT DIDN'T CLEAR ANYTHING UP WHY THE HELL ARE THE PEOPLE OF GILNEAS REJOINING THE ALLIANCE, AND WHAT DOES THE NIGHT ELF LADY HAVE TO DO WITH THEM. FUCK THIS.

Also notice how the trailer starts "While the heroes are fighting the Lich King...". I'm taking that to mean the Lich King doesn't die this expansion... I guess he survives just long enough to make goblin and worgen death knights and then he's killed in a level 81 5-man instance lol

Nah, what it means is is the Cataclysm happens while we're in Icecrown. So basically Deathwing was actually a smart bad guy and did evil shit while we were too busy getting free epics to care.

I really want to check out the new druid forms for Worgen and Trolls. Also wow, they made new druid forms for night elves and tauren too, that's pretty rad.
Title: Anyone still play WoW around here?
Post by: Verne on August 25, 2009, 05:14:27 am
I'll continue that Worgen background story line:

In Cataclysm, the Forsaken are attacking Gilneas, but instead of finding bunch of normal isolated humans they find these werewolf dudes who have been trying to get rid of the Worgen curse for sometime and even managed to "contain" it. However, even though they got furrypowers they would be no match for the Forsake and their Horde allies so they join the Alliance thanks to some Night Elf chicks who came to help them against the Forsaken.

So basically the Worgen were evil but they're somehow managing to keep their sanity and they join the Alliance because the Horde is fucking up their country.

seems they are doing another round of graphical updates with this expansion too. Once again, the first thing I noticed in the trailer (like the shadows in the wotlk screenshots) is that the water now seems to look a lot better and support reflections. Check out the videos of the lost isles, the water is smoother and the waterfalls look a ton better.

My brother and his friend are starting new characters to try get into it as well. I just went DK Blood Elf, man their are some annoying people on this realm but at least the Horde count isn't 20,000 to 800 allies anymore. More even.

Also downloaded the Aion Open Beta to maybe check that game out.
