So, nine days from today i'll finally be moving into my new residence in Boulder, Colorado. CU Boulder that is! ho ho ho

For those that haven't been, it's a massive school boasting a daunting 30,000 students. I'm not so psyched about the massive class size, but the campus is really beautiful and it's literally a five minute walk from flat irons state park. All in all, should be a really good place to start working on a degree, and I'm really really really fuckin excited to go.

anyway, i've got all the usual shit ready to go; linens, clothes, computer, some storage. But I'm sure there's some things I could bring that I'm not thinking of, and thats where GW comes in! Help good 'ol Beasley move in and get his freshman year off to a smooth start with some items he might not consider bringing and just in general some tips to survive/improve living at uni

also for those of you like me going off to school in the fall feel free to use this as a platform to ask questions about going off to college/brag about the ivy league you're going to/fuck if i know about college here!

kitchen equipment. it depends where you are living, if you are living in a place with a communal kitchen and a bunch of people you can probably get away with not taking that much, or buying that much when you are there, but if you are not going to be in a situation to use other people's cheese graters/pots/sporks then it will be annoying.

yeah i'm living in a dorm so cooking will be minimal. ill probably bring some plates and some utensils but thats about it, the only thing they allow in the dorm for cooking is a microwave.

HOWEVER i hear a toaster oven, though illegal, is well worth the risk. im investigating access to one as i type.

this is worth investing in.  If you can hide it during room inspections (depends on your school, mine only did it once at the beginning of the year and my RA just asked me if I had anything illegal in my room) you are golden.  Nothing like a bagel at 1 in the morning.

mine is like almost 7:3 (g:b)  :sweat:

maybe not bad bu ti think the national avg is 6:4 at least this is a trend in colleges except for like technical schools (my one friend is going to school for becoming an airplane mechanic and the ratio is like 3:7 )

hey i want to grow some plants in my room and am lookin for suggestions. my sister suggested a lipstick plant which sounds pretty good, her boyfriend has had one for years and he's hardly ever there to take care of it, so it's pretty hardy. it also doesn't seem to need much light. sprawl might be a slight problem though. i've also heard that aloe plants are good for small pots and fairly difficult to kill, and they can be useful. mostly i just want something alive in my room and since we can only have fish, not little turtles or lizards or spiders or whatever in terrariums, that seems a little lame and high-maintenance. spider plants are pretty boring, cacti might be good depending on the space, all the other sprawling ones i've heard mentioned just sprawl and don't do much else, all the small trees are too big, all the flowers are too boring. i saw nepenthes and butterwort suggested somewhere but i'm not sure how carnivorous plants smell since they have tubes full of decaying insects and some of them smell like rotting meat

actually butterwort sounds good. i wish i knew i had a windowsill.

remember that american magic topic esiann. I ended up buying a jade plant and a stupid fucking spider plant and I just got an aloe. my jade started to die despite me taking good care of it, so I would recommend an aloe. they're good for air quality too I think. butterwort might be an exterior plant, my mom has them outside.

Colorado is a fine school really, and big classes ain't the worst. If you really care about that take honors or whatever your school offers as an equivalent program, that can cut class size down. If you are living in the dorms you won't need a whole lot, dishes you might forget and shower shoes of some kind.

I'm forgetting shit for sure, but good luck!!

Okay so before this topic dies I'ma post my SHITTY-ASS schedule. This is what happens if I don't pass the chem assessment to get into chem 141.

Let's start with MONDAY:
-From 12:30-2:20, I have Calc III
-From 3:30-4:45, I have Physics -- Mechanics
-From 5:30-6:45, I have Chemistry
-From 7:00-9:50, I have Chemistry lab
Yeah, that's right. Nearly 5 hours of CHEMISTRY.
GREAT WAY TO START THE WEEK!

Now onward to TUESDAY:
-From 11:00-11:50, I have Classical Guitar I.
Time used here to work on HW for tomorrow.
Also, work-study >:0 Flipping burgers for cafeteria, prolly
And Speech and Debate

WEDNESDAY:
-From 12:30-2:20, I have Calc III
-From 3:30-4:45, I have Physics -- Mechanics
-From 5:30-6:45, I have Chemistry
-From 7:00-9:50, I have English
WEDNESDAYS SUCK TOO.

THURSDAY (ALMOST THERE!):
-From 11:00-11:50, I have Classical Guitar I
-From 2:30-5:20, I have Physics Lab

If I do pass the Chem assessment, I get to put Chem on Tuesday/Thursd from 5:30-6:45 lecture + 7:00-9:00 lab, which makes MONDAYS SUCK LESS and Tuesday/Thursd SUCK TO HIGH HELL. The best part is I've ALREADY TAKEN chemistry + physics-Mechanics in high school. Balls!

Hey fuck college fuck computer science fuck film this whole year is $50k being spent so I can get CREDITS which is the stupidest shit ever because I just want to do what I want and I am tired of doing shit i hate and I am really angry right now

my major is computer science not film RIT don't want me for film

i don't even understand computer science at all went to a computer competition to alabama even though i didn't want to go cause then since i'm a dick everyone else couldn't go if i decided not to didn't finish jack shit gave me a 20 problem paper to do in an hour only got 2 questions right and finished like 5

I seriously had a really fucking shitty schedule for the first year of uni. I had 35-40 hours of classes a week through the whole year, lots of projects and homework and a job as well. It didn't help that I'm studying data processing but it's also a business university and I had to take a whole bunch of business courses I more or less hated. And some of them were really easy but also required a lot of work and I had to spend hours every week doing assignments which were just pointless for me. The positive side is that I doubt I'll have another shitty year like that ahead of me and I like my job so that didn't feel too bad.

funny you should ask. My buddy JUST stopped shipping and is going to washington state (or someshit, I dunno) and is getting a computer science degree.

I told him he was fucking dumb but he won't listen to me.

Seattle is a great place to get into it if that's what you're into and you're smart 'cuz the UW computer science department is really good and there's tons of job opportunities around here.

if he's not going there then he's just probably gonna go to ITT tech and be a fuckin' cable-jockey

I think hes going to seattle because he lives with his bro like an hour away but I'll have to check on that. I don't think he knew it was a good school for comp sci though. I'm pretty sure he picked it because he'd make decent money doing it and wouldn't have a problem getting a job, which is pretty dumb imo because he'll be going into DEBT to do this and make just about as much money if not less than what he's making now.

Whatevs, it's something he wants to do. In psyburn's case though he's stuck doing a major that he doesn't like -- going into debt for nothing. Really though, P-burn, you can prolly use those classes as elective credit in the future so it's not all a waste...yeah paying 40k for elective credit blah, but you seriously should go after the major you want. Talk to your counselor again. Christ, that's seriously messed up. There's got to be SOMETHING you can do.

As for me I'ma change chem to weight lifting because apparently to transfer to UCSD I have to take 2 semesters of PE. WTF. On the upside, this gives me more time to study for the chem assessment test. Plus I can finally gets those tomato-slicing rock-hard chick-magnet abs I always wanted. And I might even take fencing after...mwahah. I don't suppose anyone here remembers my retarded TOURNAMENT thread?

Don't worry too mcuh unfortunately my parents can afford it and i emailed the film staff whateva who probably won't reply and i am gonna talk to counselor when i get there
