I'm going to nyc this saturday and will be staying there for about 4 days with my girlfriend. we're going there/back on $1 megabus tickets we got from someone and we're going to rent some person's nice apartment from the internet for like $30 a night in the upper east side near chinatown.

we've got most of our stay planned out with the restaurants / shops / things during the day (eg moma, dinosaur jr in central park). do you guys know any good bars or clubs or live music venues or whatever that are worth going to in the night? i know some of you live around there and hopefully y'all aren't underage/lame to not know any places!

i'll post any good pics in this thread too when i come back I guess!

i was in nyc a couple of weeks ago with some friends and someone recommended we check out Jimmy's Corner (http://nymag.com/listings/bar/jimmys_corner/) as a great, cheap bar to go to in Manhattan. So we did. It was awesome. It's a really tight, cozy place with Boxing memorabilia all over the walls and most importantly NO B.A.K.E.R.-type fuckers. Beers were $4, mixed drinks were like $3.50-$7. Very cheap.


if you're there saturday night, and a nice waitress with lots of tattoos over her arms serves you, tell her "the kid who had a margarita, a bloody mary, and a midori a couple of weeks ago was OK the next day" (that's not me, btw). she'll definitely remember.

$4 is not that bad but considering it's american prices i'd be expecting 3.50 or less. a lotta clubs here charge like 5-7 for a bottle

yeah, i can't stand paying full price at most bars.  i'm a cheap bastard, so i've figured out locally who has the best speicals for each day of the week.

if i can, i sneak in a bottle of puke cheap cider and just fill up a pint glass with it, hiding it under the table. i'm not paying £50 to act like an asshole and hate myself all the next day.

usually i just don't go to pubs.

paying a price like £4 for a beer in a restaurant is bad, but i can tolerate it, but paying that amount of money just to get drunk in a place where people get drunk is stupid and you should all stay home or go to a friend's to do your drinking and save yourself some self-respect and cash for better things.

If you want good bars try Mickey Mantle's on Central Park South, Tavern on the Green in Central Park, and Double Happiness on Mott St in Chinatown (I hear the green tea martini is really good).   

As for clubs, I only know of five in NYC.  Avalon at 660 6th St, Crobar W28th St. Between 10th and 11th Ave., Swing 46 at 349 W 46th. Between 8th & 9th Ave, Decade on 1st Ave & 61st St. and Spirit on W 27th between 10th & 11th Ave.

It's been awhile since I've checked out the night scene in NYC, so some of these places may no longer exist.
