So this is pretty disgusting:
http://edition.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/08/13/arizona.immigrant.advocate/index.html
Noting the phrase scrawled on many of the plastic water jugs -- "buena suerte," or "good luck" in Spanish -- the prosecutors said, "The obvious conclusion is that the defendant and No More Deaths wish to aid illegal aliens in their entry attempt."
This disgusting man.
Citing a biologist, the prosecutors said that animals could eat the plastic and that others could get feet or antlers caught on the bottles.
Also, the rotting corpses of South American immigrants are probably a good source of nutrition for many desert scavengers.

yeah it sucks but if you were half intelligent and got into something like that then you'd have to expect that asshole border patrollers might jump your dick for it.
with only a year of probation and some community service I think he got pretty good out of it. Just switch one charity for another but the probations really gonna blow, and the fines.
-
that blows fields of dicks. :( at best, this could generate attention for people who might want to help them. I hope they figure out a way to give water without plastic bottles. (don't know how they would do this.)
-
shoot it at them with firehoses
-
Make paper jugs. They have paper cups, why not paper jugs?
Also I don't think animals would go around eating large plastic jugs, I think they only experiment with bite-sized potentially lethal things (balloons and bottle caps)

Nah people litter down my street all the time and my dog has torn up soda bottles before trying to get to the leftover soda on the inside. It's pretty possible man. Depends on the animal though, I doubt something would try unless it had sharp teeth.
But yeah milk can come in cartons so I don't know why water couldn't. Still, it's STILL LITTER so that doesn't solve the problem at all. It's just slightly better litter.
-
btw I think it's awful that they're treating this guy like this, i'm just saying that "yeah it is legitimately litter we just all know that that's not why they're calling him on it"
-
Because ANIMALS are worth more than PEOPLE
-
nope, they aren't
like i said, it's a legitimate litter charge law-wise unfortunately but it's bullshit to call this guy on it because he's helping people with it
people litter all the time let's go after the only guy doing it for a good reason. the only reason we care is he's helping dirty mexicans, luckily he littered doing so so we can fine him and put him on probation.

Because ANIMALS are worth more than PEOPLE
They are worth more than illegals at least

hello i am devils advocate!!!
Won't leaving water in the desert eventually lead to increased immigration through it? And wouldn't that lead to... more deaths?
"Hey I hear there is water in the desert let's make a break through there!"
*water jug empty*
"Shit!"
then they die!
I mean, it's good that he is helping people not die in the bleak flats of Arizona but on the other hand without the water being a reliable aid it will just end up getting immigrants hopes up and then causing them to die.
edit: Illegal immigration is a multi-sided argument and pretty much sucks for everyone involved but I don't think we should be encouraging people to take a treacherous route through the Scorpion Desert (I don't think the current policy gives them much choice but this seems like an even more deadly option than most).
-
Nobody is going to decide or even be reasonably swayed to or from the prospect of crossing a desert on foot because there is a possibility they may come across a bottle of water at some point, I doubt anybody has really even heard about it. This guy's little thing that he is doing might not be a great idea, I don't know. It doesn't sound terrible to me, maybe it saved somebody from passing out at some point, but it's impossible to truly gauge whether these things are worth it at all. I made this topic just to point out how ugly and stupid the prosecution's whole argument was, that it seems to indicate a really horrible attitude towards people who cross the Mexico-US border and see if anyone had any kind of knowledge about it.
-
I don't understand why they need bottled water anyway, couldn't they just lick each other's backs to quench their thirst?
-

I don't know, it seems like there are some pretty fast-acting channels of communication here. There have been cases of tunnels being dug for miles under the border and areas being exploited by thousands in a matter of hours so obviously it's not just a wild free-for-all. Many immigrants have family already in the US and... they do have phones in Mexico.
I am not saying a few jugs o' water are going to change any minds, but if a bunch of people got together and started doing this all over after this guy's example then it could have an impact. They aren't given many options, so even a glimmer of hope can seem like enough sometimes!

Except that term comes from them swimming across rivers which they are obviously not doing if they're in the desert!!! GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT "MARK"
edit: Although like I said I am just presenting another point of view I don't think it's bad to give water to thirsty dying people!
-
If illegal imigrant friendly people started leaving water around the desert for illegals to drink then illegal imigrant unfriendly people would start poisoning that water so that's a good reason not to leave water around
-
there is no multi side to immigration by the way
its one world fuck your borders. Imaginary lines from imaginary people with imaginary societies..........all imaginatin shit

Except when somebody came upon the bodies of several mexicans clutching water bottles I'm pretty sure this is going to end with those people being tried for murder.
-
as long as they ain't takin' our jobs.....

Except they were wearing masks and made sure they didn't left any evidence behind and used a delayed action poison so people who drink from the water will only die several days later

If government officials really cared about "creating jobs" they why do they continue to not enforce the laws on all the illegal immigrants in the area that are consuming a large portion of the jobs in the area? I have worked in the construction industry in the area for over 15 years and it is very disturbing to see all the people who are laid off or are working part time hours due to their employers being low on work. Yet you see all of these Hispanic crews out 6 to 7 days a week. Now some might say that these people are legal however I know of 7 different companies in the area who have crews that are not. And for the ones that are legal, if government cared so much for it's citizens, why do they continue to issue and renew temporary work permits to foreigners so they can come to the area and take up more of the few jobs available? Some people will say "well why don't you call and report the companies that work the illegals?" Well guess what? People have been doing that now for over a year and NOTHING is being done about it! Think about this the next time you see one of those greedy politicians on tv talking about "creating new jobs". Then contact them and ask them why they don't protect the jobs and work that is here. And for those who have been pushed out of work due to the Hispanic invasion in our area, write or call your local representatives and express your thoughts on the issue. Politicians will not react until they start to feel pressure and you can't create pressure by sitting back and letting things continue the way they are going!
