Recently I'v been getting alot of free time I have no school for like at least a month and all I have to do is go to work for like 7 hours four times a week.In this time Ive beaten many JRPG's and am having a hard decision on wich I should play next.Could somone recommend me one with atleast decent game play and a good story/likable characters.I have access to practically everything except for a 360,DS and Wii.
These are some of the games I beat on the holiday so don't recommend them:
Star Ocean second evolution (Ive beaten First Departure to by the way)
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VIII
whole compilation of Final Fantasy VII(thats right I have no life aside from basketball and hanging out with my friends I'm playing video games)
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy IV
I tried Chrono Cross and finished like a whole 5 hours without saving so I'm gonna come back to that later to pissed off to play it now.
thats it please recommend me some JRPG's and maybe give me some where you actually need to use strategy.Don't recommend me any Western RPG's can't stand those.
-
Persona 3 & 4! Though with some touches of a dating sim / epic dungeon crawling parts, and of course with memorable modern-sounding music.
-
Not A huge fan of dark stories but I really like Shin Megami Tensei DDS might check them out after I finish 1 and 2.
-
So you're more on a cliche, shallowly-grim-to-rainbow happy stories eh? Go for Dark Cloud games, and/or even on GBA Summon Night titles.
-
I only meant stories that have futuristic or modern day settings.I prefer the fantasy style more.
-
The Last Remnant perhaps? It's new and available for PC so... you know... ;)
It's also rather hard than your average JRPG (you will get game overs frequently) and there's shittons of customization from fighting styles to weapons and strategy is through the roof with different sizes of "unions" (party members consist of 1 to 5 individual units) and formations, not to mention you have to keep stuff like flanking and back-attacking or even morale in the mind if you wish to succeed!
The story is ok, nothing amazing and the story telling is rather odd at times but it's there and works well. You also got lots of side quests to do if you want to take break from the main quest.
-
I suggest FFXII, I played a bunch of that in the last month or so. Didn't think I'd like it but it is about 50 thousand zillion % better than any other FF game.
-
Final Fantasy 5
Dragon Quest 5
Romancing SaGa
-
I think you played all the Disgaea Games (or most games by nippon ichi) Judging by your Avy. But let me Recommend one of the best game they made witch is Makai Kingdom.
-
Lunar: Silver Star Story is about as J-RPG as it gets. You've got every single trope right there, plus anime cutscenes and hilarious voice acting. Really fun game.
-
Xenogears, Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3, Terranigma, Vagrant Story, ActRaiser, Final Fantasy X, Breath of Fire II III and IV, Earthbound, Tales of Phantasia, Suikoden and Alundra. Have fun.
-
YEAH! I own Makai Kingdom and it's far from the best they made it's pretty much the worst.I have played nearly all of nippon ichi's games except Disgaea 3 (which in my opinion look's like the worst one)Yeah I have played his two other games 'La Pucelle tactics and Phantom Brave' La Pucelles boring as hell  and I got pretty far in Phantom Brave and accidentally deleted my loaded game.Yeah last remnant look's really good but everything in my system requirements are high enough except for then ram. DAMMIT!
EDIT:Getting the benchmark test now to see how it will run on my PC there's still hope!

It was one of the better one to me. since it has so many things you can customize, it had Vehicles, buildings. and I like that they used radius circles to move around. Also the fact that the summoning spot was mobile was also a cool twist to the game play and compared to the last 2 Disgaea's the story wasn’t too bad either. I pray that they make sequel.
As for Disgaea 3 story wise yes it's just as bad as 2 but theres more customizing and littie bit more refined. so I still enjoyed it.
Phantom Brave was tolerable.
'La Pucelle tactics (was boring and some how I mange to stick it out to beat it.)

Got the Benchmark test but it just freezes every time I try it. I have 1gb ram would that give me at least decent speed if I play on really low resolution. Also is Last Remnant turn based or action RPG, because I love the turn based. Are any of the 'tales of' games good.Abyss looks really good as does Tales of Destiny the only one that I have beaten is Phantasia.

I suppose 1 GB would work with low quality textures. It's not really a huge power hog and actually knows how to use multi-core processors. And yes, it is turn-based.
-
I recommend all of them. I recommend every single JRPG.
-
dont listen to dogchode69 he's trying to trick you!
-
His avatar kind of makes me want to make a sideview Shrek JRPG battle system. Has this been done already?
-
You really need to play Suikoden (2 in particular) and Xenogears.
-
You could try the Final Fantasy IV sequel, on the Wii and tell us how it is.
-
I dont recommend playing Last Remnant on anything less than dual core and 3gb ram with a decent graphics card.
As a guide on my laptop i have an ati rad 3450 hd 512mb, 3gb ram and 2.1 dual core x64 and it still doesn't run as well as I would like.
EDIT
I'd reccomend Yggdra Union on GBA or PSP - It's stupidly addictive!
An alternative to the blueprint for strategy role-playing games, Yggdra Union is strange, complicated, interesting, and charming
http://uk.gamespot.com/gba/rpg/yggdraunion/index.html?tag=result;title;1
EDIT 2
If you don't mind action RPGS then Soul Blazer on the snes is the best ARPG. Slightly dated graphics aside, anybody disagrees i'll fight you!

I've got a desktop with Intel Core2Duo E6750 @2.66Ghz x2, 2 gigs of ram and 512MB Geforce 8800GT and it runs easily on highest settings for me. No AA though.
edit: there however is some bug with high quality shadows that makes the game sluggish in combat so might want to turn down the shadow settings to medium or minimum, there's really no difference in shadow quality either way.
-
Tom Sawyer RPG
-
yeah I have beaten Suikoden 1 and 2.should I try last remnant I have a computer with all the right settings a 512 graphics card,2 gb ram and 3.0 giga hertz but that computer does not have agp acceleration would it still work because final fantasy 11 does.
-
I doubt it if you have an integrated graphics card. Those really aren't made for modern 3D games. There's a demo of Last Remnant on Steam so might want to try it.

Maybe my shadows are on high, i'll turn 'em down. Thanks for the tip.

Just wait till Final Fantasy XIII comes out.
-
Im playing Tales of Phantasia now for the second time but PSX version on PSP .Will get last Remnant after I add 2 gigs of ram on my computer for only 45$ (Used to think it cost like $200 man was I clueless).

P3 and P4 don't have dark stories, so you're in luck.

Tales of Eterna!
If you play the original version (I think the rest are simple ports) play this one.

not to be confused with this one http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/2/561922_27326_front.jpg
I hate the Tales series just as much as the next guy but Tales of Eternia was fantastic.

Why would you hate Tales of' so much.I'm actually finding them allot more enjoyable then most RPG's except maybe a few turn based one's.Anyway I was planning to play Tales of Destiny or Last remnant next.I'm just finishing off my really old loaded game I only got like 8 hours left in Phantasia.
-
I remember playing Skies of Arcadia Legends on the Gamecube and really enjoying it. So I suggest that.

Because every single game follows the same basic formula and the only thing that ever really changes are names and haircuts?!?
To me Tales of Eternia (Destiny II for PSX in the US) was the only one that stood out, though it's still familiar territory if you've played any other game in the series. I've heard that Tales of the Abyss stood out as well but I haven't played it myself (lost my PS2 before I was ever interested enough to try the game out)
-
EarthBound, Mother 3, Tales of Symphonia, The World Ends With You, Rune Factory (actually its a fantasy/rpg harvest moon game but you'd probably like it)
-
super mario rpg for the super nintendo!

I hear Tales of Legendia stood out as well. Apparently a lot of Tales fanboys hated it, maybe it's good then. I've read the plot premise and seen the character designs and it does look pretty different from usual Tales stuff.
By the way, I recommend Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions due to good gameplay (hate those pseudo-random battles from which you can't escape though!), great plot (much better than anything you'll ever find in Tales) and beautiful cel-shaded, storybook-esque cutscenes!
Lost Odyssey is also good but it doesn't really add anything new to the genre. Most characters dress ridiculously, there's some slight slowdown on some parts and the plot and world could've been better. The world felt really empty when compared to what Kaim's memories (short stories presented in a visual novel fashion which describe memories from Kaim's past which he remembers along the game) described. To me the memory segments were definitely the game's highlight plot-wise, I just wish the guy who wrote those short stories could've written the game's plot as well. The game also has some excellent music (especially during the memory segments) although there ares some tracks that I just can't listen to.
-
I'm probably gonna finish off Tales of Phantasia in a day or two.I'll probably download the Last Remnant demo now to see if it works on my computer at good speed and if it does I'll buy it if not I'll probably play Tales of Eternia.
-
Both Baten Kaitos Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean and Baten kaitos Origins are pretty good. The first one has some pretty bad VA work, but everything else is pretty awesome. Origins definitely had a much better localization effort (probably because Nintendo did the localization, I don't remember who did Eternal Wings' localization work) and was pretty good too thought he battle system was made less complex this time around.
-
Damn! Wasted a whole gigabyte for nothing The Last Remnant Demo comes up with a windows error right after the banner.Oh well I'll finish up Tales of Phantasia
-
Has anyone played Little King's Story? It looks like a really interesting game.
I really like the narrator's voice on this trailer.
-

There you go.
Pick up the sequel too.
-
I'm playing Final Fantasy X my friend forced me to play it and now that I playing it again I'm full on into it.In my opinion it has one of the best VIDEO GAME INTROS EVER! the one where they're playing blitz ball.
-
I really dislike how the characters all act like they're made of cardboard in Final Fantasy X. Yuna and Tidus like eachother for no adequately explored reason other than Tidus being the leading male character/fighter and Yuna being the backing female character/white mage. Like this could definitely pass off as a Final Fantasy 2: Gaiden fanfiction and it would fit just fine.
I suggest FFXII, I played a bunch of that in the last month or so. Didn't think I'd like it but it is about 50 thousand zillion % better than any other FF game.
This, and while you are at it, play Vagrant Story as well. You will enjoy it.

Well Yuna did know jecht Tidus' father so maybe she felt a connection or maybe he reminded her of Jecht.Auron states on one part that they both had the same personality or at least thought the same way.
Tidus:its the right thing to do.
Auron:Jecht would always say its the right thing to do and it always meant trouble for Braska and me.
