A came across the movie Grotesque while reading the newspaper last night explaining how its been banned here in the UK so naturally I went online to search and look for it.
An article http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20090819/ten-grotesque-uk-bans-extreme-torture-fi-8a3eada.html
A trailer http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=49237697
I do think its odd they would ban a movie over something we have seen before like this, the movie hostel wasnt all that different. Anyway has anyone heard about this or even seen it yet? I'm sure the fact that its banned will do more good than harm from the publicity its getting.
-
british colonies often ban stuff because it's worthless garbage not because it's more INTENSE. i'm also sure banning it prevents the movie getting hype money because they typically lift the ban 3 years later so the three disgusting people who were genuinely interested in it rather than morbidly curious can still get their kicks.
-
How often does the UK ban movies? I'm really curious about this. I mean I don't expect it to ever affect me because I don't like to watch shit like this anyway but I'm interested in knowing. The only one I know is that A Clockwork Orange was banned in the UK until Kubrick's death, but that was his own idea so it's not quite the same thing.
-
Banning a movie as I understand over here is extremely rare, I do remember one of the Chuky movies was band a long time ago but apart from that I really don't remember hearing about anything else.
-
S&M fanatics must shit themselves over this movie
-
you're stupid
-
A Clockwork Orange wasn't banned, Kubrick had it removed from theatres becuase he was recieving death threats.
edit: just re-read your post
yeah, movies aren't often banned, but sometimes they censor out slight parts of movies if the BBFC think its neccersary. Kind of dumb but they're innevitably getting more liberal with what they censor nowadays anyway
-
Yeah, there were his death threats as well as many criminals emulating his movie during their crimes (like some group of kids raped a woman while singing Singin' in the Rain and that type of thing), but I like that he only pulled it out of UK theatres so that he himself couldn't be hurt by it.
-
This stupid movie doesn't deserve a topic, and neither does the BBFC decision to ban it, as if they have any real power over that kind of thing. Don't care, doesn't matter, let everyone involved go fuck themselves.
-
Jesus after reading that article I'm glad this shit is banned. Ban it everywhere.
-
S&M fanatics must shit themselves over this movie
yes, you are very stupid.
-
Who would make or watch this DVD.
-
Who would make or watch this DVD.
People who need to be in jail.
-
I started watching the trailer and had to turn it off
I am used to thinking that censorship is a bad thing, but this film has clearly been made by some seriously disturbed individuals that perhaps shouldn't be allowed to promote their pornography of violence freely to any unexpected person. Should it be illegal to let people watch this? No, but I think there are some moral issues on whether someone should make money from selling this shit
-
a government-run ratings board with the power to actually MAKE MOVIES ILLEGAL is ridiculous. that's too bad that you permit it over there!
lets do GAMINGW MOVIE CLUB: "SALO, OR THE 120 DAYS OF SODOM"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_nasty#DPP_list
A GOVERNMENT WITH THE ABILITY TO CONDEMN CERTAIN ACTIVITIES???? THAT'S NOT TRUE DEMOCRACY!!!!
look at the list. they're not getting banned because they're speaking out against the government, they're banned because they're absolutely worthless. OBJECTION: I WANT TO SEE GUTTS. RIP OPEN BREASTS AND VAGINAS. CHOP OPEN A PENIS.

that's nice sheppard but how is banning its sale not real power over how many people watch it? do you really think SAW would've been such a hit if you could only get it shipped in from brazil?
-

do you really think it's awful that this movie was banned? do people so desperately need to see it that it shouldn't be? it's nothing but torture and sexual assault, it's not a STORY about it it's just TORTURE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT if anything it shouldn't be banned just so we can find out who is buying it and send them immediately to prison

I didn't say anything about how big a hit this movie would have been - even if it hadn't been banned, how many cinemas would show it and how many supermarkets would stock it? It would barely be a blip - this movie isn't SAW. You can already find this movie all over the internet, too. Whoever wants to see this is going to see it, and I don't think anyone is going to have to pay postage and packaging to do so. Whether it is banned or not doesn't matter anymore. The amount of people that see it will be limited but calling it banned is useless because it's already available.

I'm unclear on whether the movies are illegal, they just aren't classified and so places of business can't sell or buy them. I mean, right? Unless I am wrong but assuming I'm not: I'm not saying it's a good idea, obviously, but this is a very common system. Besides, the system in America isn't so different in effect. Films get classified NC-17, and are no longer shown or sold in the majority of places, causing lots of things to be cut out. Bruno was classified NC-17 and they had to tone down the GAYNESS of it all, or they'd get no money. How is that better than what the BBFC has done here?
-
you said "as if they have any real power over that kind of thing," it's pretty obvious they have real power over it unless you think it's unnecessary because the free market is self regulating??
-
I just meant that people will see it, anyway, whether it is available for purchase or not. I was implying that while maybe unsuspecting masses who would otherwise be subjected to this, unknowingly, the people who are into this stuff will see it anyway. If there IS damage to be done by a movie like this (and what the fuck can anyone know about that), it will still be done. Banned doesn't mean anything. Yes, it's obvious the risk of more people seeing this is now lessened (well kind of, the hype will probably get some teenagers to watch it), but even without this measure it wasn't going to be handled by any mainstream media, shown in any cinemas, stocked in any stores anyway. The free market has turned away from alot less, for lots of reasons - probably a couple good but most just typical - there is no reason to think there was any risk of this being a hit, anyway. Yes, I'm saying the free-market would have regulated this by itself.
And even putting all of that aside this could have gotten banned for sale over copyright issues if fellow scumbag Eli Roth had gotten wind of it eating out of his bag of diarrhea.

the mpaa is obnoxious for sure but they do not have the power to (nor do their ratings enable the government to): imprison, fine, punish, ban, or do anything other than provide a guideline to movie theater operators who can and cannot be admitted to theaters. and there's actually NO body that governs movie sales or rentals.
so... there is your difference. "can't watch it in a theater unless ur 17" vs "will get arrested if you attempt to sell this."
not gonna reply to all the [ABOVE, ][/ABOVE,] lunacy though
-
I don't even know why I come on here to argue. I don't even disagree with you guys I just always find it excessive to see people getting all 'what you BAN movies? nazis...' when everything I've just said is legitimate stuff that after I considered led me to think: don't give a flip, which came after my knee-jerk YOU CAN'T BAN AN IDEA!!!! reaction. As far as political issues go, the first film banned in the UK for 20 years isn't a pressing one considering it's a worthless piece of junk. Don't ban it, there's no reason to and out of principle I would say that stinks, but considering everything here, banning it doesn't matter either. Lunacy? smell my socks why don't you.
-
your real knee-jerk reaction was assuming 'lunacy' had anything to do with you and not the topic's, you know, LUNACY

I guess I was just feeling defensive about having said the free market would regulate itself.
-
the free market could better regulate itself if - whereas the pipedream of theatrical distribution (or, probably, being picked up by certain DVD publishers or being aired by certain cable networks) is the only reason you'd send your movie to the mpaa ANYWAY - there was no required certification step and you could actually sell your movie to people directly, when and how you wanted
for clarity cause i'm retarded:
the free market could better regulate itself if there was no required certification step and you could actually sell your movie to people directly, when and how you wanted
the only reason you would send your movie to the mpaa for ratings is the pipedream of theatrical distribution (or, probably, being picked up by certain DVD publishers or being aired by certain cable networks that might require a rating before they'll sell your movie)
-
I think there should be a requirement that movies be certified in some kind of way that indicates it's content. Nothing legally binding, obviously, but you've got to let those moms and pops know what they're taking The Kids in to see. That was a pretty convoluted sentence so I might have misinterpreted a little.
-
i meant if i saw a car accident i'd slow down but there's no way i'd download movies of car accidents. there's a point where curiosity and effort intertwine and while the only people who would go out of their way to get this would probably download car accident movies, if it wasn't banned a lot more people would see it.
edit: PG: Supernatural themes, mild language, drug references, sexual references, violence, etc etc

Just got done watching this, I made the mistake of trying to watch this while eating a curry. Long story short, I gave up on the curry after watching the psycho wipe the shit of the guys leg.
There's no real story involved but we do get to see a very odd type of love story between two people who seem to get closer the more their tortured. The torturing really wasn’t any worse than what you see in the movie Hostel, only you get a whole lot more. Ill admit I did have to cover my eyes during certain parts psycho uses scissors to cut the woman’s nipples off.
Was the movie worth watching?
Well maybe for the sound effects and the last scene which was hilarious but other than that It wasn’t anything special and was probably only made for sick people like me.

jesus christ you really will watch every movie and never give a bad review
no movie is worth watching for the sound effects and if you found anything hilarious in this movie you need to seek help
-
I dare anyone not to laugh at the end.
-
ah man im going to get licks for this but....this movie sounds interesting. The name itself indicates that the main idea of the movie is gruesome scenes. lol massy2k6....or should i say massy2k!

This is the real deal guys. 10/10 for audio and quality, its a dvd rip as stated. Unfortunately there are no subtitles so you will have to download them separately somewhere else.
Incase you dont feel like searching for subtitles heres a link for you guys.
http://subscene.com/english/Grotesque-Gurotesku/subtitle-247272.aspx
Before you ask because there's always one who does, just extract the subtitles inside the same folder as the movie and change the name on the subtitle file (.srt) to match the exact name of the movie still leaving .srt at the end.
e.g. Movie name - Grotesque, Subtitles - Grotesque.srt
thanks for the subs though!
I dont get it though. Movies are made to be watched either way. No matter how shitty they are. Why would you define a movie viewing as "dude you should be put behind bars". In all fairness, it's just a movie regardless of content. my 2 cents.
Im going to watch it when its done downloading.

By that argument if someone made child porn in a way that didn't physically harm the child (MAGIC OF EDITING I guess), shouldn't that be legal? I'm grossed out that anyone wants to see someone's nipples cut off with scissors sorry that that makes me against freedom I'm willing to accept that label.
-
I would not be surprised if the next idea was that of a movie. The world is fucked up and its not changing for the better any time soon. Ive seen some messed up things in my life so far. The younger I was the longer it scarred me for. But overall I think its made me stronger. I have not puked at something disgusting since i was 9. BUT IF THEY DID MAKE A PEDO MOVIE I WOULD BE FUCKING SCARED SHITLESS....cus in the back of my mind I would be contemplating for HOURS whether that shit is real or not.

You say this like being horribly desensitized to violence is such a good thing :fogetshrug:
-
ooh no I didn't.
-
let's totally be honest this is far more deserving an audience than, say Norbit or 2012 or the day after tomorrow.
-
Lol Brown, you found my post from Isohunt.. well at least you know the torrent is the real deal ;)
-
Some people out there make content like this just for the sake of it. I guess there's some satisfaction in being on some infamous ban list or whatever. It's not my kind of thing, but by all means, let them do it. I see media as a catalog of human ideas and feelings, and I think the dark and twisted should be allowed to exist just as everything else. I'm not one to pretend that sick ideas like this aren't out there, and I don't think any group should coddle me about what I should and shouldn't watch.
-
And I don't think that getting enjoyment out of this shouldn't be discouraged.
-

you're just partial because you are a woman and you're sensetive to your nipples
-
*being cut off
-
you're just partial because you are a woman and you're sensetive to your nipples
Yeah like you'd be so happy about having yours cut off with scissors.
-
Vote for Velfire as the new leader of the Conservative party!
-
Yeah you have to be so conservative to think it's okay to ban a movie once every many years in a world where you can still get it anyway but maaaayyyybee not put it in stores because it's p. horrible.
-
let's totally be honest this is far more deserving an audience than, say Norbit or 2012 or the day after tomorrow.
I dunno dude if I would attribute any artistic value to torture porn. Ok, maybe more than those 3 movies but still, that shit is pretty messed up.
-
Freedom is speech wasn't made to protect things that everybody agrees with, Vellfire...
-
Well maybe for the sound effects and the last scene which was hilarious but other than that It wasn’t anything special and was probably only made for sick people like me.
I watched the last scene of the movie JUST because you said that and quite frankly, I agree with you. It's more hilarious in a ridiculous kind of way though.
-
Well, yeah thats what I kinda meant by that.. Its so stupid its funny.
-
Freedom is speech wasn't made to protect things that everybody agrees with, Vellfire...
I don't give a shit tbh, if it was any other movie I might argue for this but for this movie I give no fucks, let it be banned it's awful.
-
velfarre loves norbit apparently
-
No I wouldn't be upset if that got banned either.
-
well I think sex in the city should be banned too then
what do you think about that
huh
what do you think about that missy
-
Good, take that too.
-
Final Destination movies should definitely be erased from history.
-
Basically the article sums up why I don't care that this film is banned. It's got nothing but extreme physical and sexual torture, I give no fucks about it being banned because it's got no worth whatsoever. I dare anyone to explain how this movie is worthy of being defended. Like I said if it was another movie I might get up in arms about how wrong it is to ban movies but fuck I'm not doing it for this one!
-
good thoughts Coxwain. a+.
-
ban anime, real people dont look like that, fuck it
-
Just watched the trailer. That's disturbing.
I'm not against these kinds of movies. I don't see why any sensible person would want to
watch this though.
Anyway, I prefer psychological terror. This just contains to much violence.
-
The only way i can see this movie serving any kind of function is as being a sort of challenge to watch. That'd be where the enjoyment would come from, if you weren't just really into torture.
I don't care if they ban this from shops, but i'm pretty sure owning it isnt illegal in itself? If people want to see it then order it in, nobody'll care, I'm not sure your average highstreet shop would've had this in stock anyway. It's just sort sort of bad that people could make money out of what seems to have no worth outside of encouraging extreme violence as a form of entertainment.
That said, i'm completely in favour of freedom of speech. THAT said, i wouldn't allow the distribution of that hypothetical simulated child porn mentioned earlier. It's difficult because of that infamous seperation of imoral and illegal. In an ideal world what'd happen is that it'd not be banned but shops wouldn't stock it on moral grounds.
-
I think buying and selling it is what is illegal, so I would assume torrenting it would only be illegal due to the piracy aspect, which is something you'd be a lot less likely to have trouble over.
-
There was a similer film made quite a few years ago , again from japan. I think it was this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0161635/plotsummary but it was def one of the Guinea Pig films. It was responsible for a copycat crime. Some guy saw the film, kidnapped a girl slowly cut her up while she was alive and posted video to her mum. Films like this can influence certain types of people to do sick stuff and for that reason alone it should be banned.
On a personal level I see no reason for anyone wanting to see this but if they do then thats up to them. Nobody should have the right to say what films someone should or should not see however banning this is the right choice - it will stop it easily getting into the hands of children.
-
it's not the movies that influence people to do the crimes. The people who commit such crimes are likely to kill anyways. A film (or game, or song) might have been the trigger, but such is the state of the people that generally annything from watching Tellytubbies to reading Dickens could end up setting them off. If we were to ban everything that has in some way influenced a violent crime then I guess we're sitting here in a world where all we can do is watch Arthur, listen to Nickleback and where the most adventurous book we can read is Thomas the Tank Engine picks up some passengers.
To ban something or condem it based on the actions of one person (regardless of how the other thousands or in some cases millions of other people didn't do anything) is absurd.
-
flower of flesh and blood wasn't banned because of copyright crimes it was banned because it's pretty much snuff
-
I wouldn't suggest allowing nickleback in your world then kaworu unless you're comfortable with objectifying women
