Oh excuse me, but there is a penis on your title screen.
-
That's what I thought I saw the first time... Either that, or a strange jellyfish.
That being said, I'm looking forward to seeing what all the hubbub was about all those nights ago.
-
Oh excuse me, but there is a penis on your title screen.
Yeah at first sight it looks indeed a penis, but rest assured it is not. It is merely the kaiser ship of the alien race Envia. I don't know why the ship looks that way. Maybe because envian males cannot reproduce who knows ;)
-
Wow. Less than a month to go. Cant wait! Been looking forward to this for a while. Congrats on finishing such a big project. The feature list sounds interesting too.

It might be funny to mention that the database is so big that it takes almost 30 seconds to save a change in it
-
I don't want to be a party pooper or anything but this game doesn't look good. The title screen alone screams Mr. Big T. And not just for the penis thing. You've got mismatched facesets, slightly altered RTp graphics, ugly dialogue boxes, randomized looking maps all squashed into one big mess of a game. I know people will think I'm a shallow bitch for just basing this game on looks but graphics(especially rm2k3 graphics) are easy to fix. There are plenty of consistent face graphics and system menus out there. You don't have to look hard for these things...
-
I have to agree that the visuals aren't exactly great. Theres a hot debate about using recycled resources going on at the moment, and I still maintain that if you use them well the game can look appealing. Sadly, this isn't what I had in mind. I also suspect that the story and some of the bolder claims you made in the "features" section will fall short of what you're making them out to be.
However, while I may seem pessimistic, I have to say that I'm actually looking forward to playing this thing. Theres absolutely no doubt in my mind that a lot of work has been put into this game and that deserves some solid praise.

All critics are welcome of course, though I didn't make this game for the graphics, the graphics are however polished and some screens are old. I do like the system color of the message bock, tough it's transparent in the Final version.
I think that the great variety in battles that the game has to offer makes the game quite fun to play, all those skills and abilities that influence each other makes every battle unique. There are a lot of combinations possible and it is for you to find out which are best.
-
Actually, after having a closer look at the screenshots it doesn't look quite as bad as I originally though. I blamed the RTP and rips but at closer inspection its some the custom stuff that seems more out of place than anything (spell effect on the second screen shot probably stands out the most), but it doesn't look nearly as bad as I first thought. I may have been a tad too harsh. You still haven't sold me on your rather brave claims about the game though, but Ill be sure to play this when you finally decide its ready for release to find out first hand how it measures up to your list. Hopefully its at least half as good as you make it out to be, because that would still make it a pretty awesome game.
A small suggestion to wrap up my post:
remove the jellyfish-penis-spaceship from your title screen and find a less intrusive way of placing your credits. It'll make it a lot more pleasing to the eye.

Well the alien ship is a big part of the game so I don't think that is good idea, but I might think of something.
Oh btw what do you guys think that the first 1-2 hours of the game is full of tutorials and the intro. You can skip all of those of course but then you will not understand the game..the game is pretty complicated so a lot of those tutorials are needed in the beginning.
last week I tried to spread some of the tutorials later in the game, but yo are still spending a lot of time early in the game on tutorials and the intro.

That is an outdated version, you better wait until the new version is rereleased.

well I started the game, the intro was pretty cool but once i got into the game proper, I ran into a bug I think the town elder was supposed to walk in but the town's elder's sprite didn't appear and when i was told to follow him to the training grounds, i didn't know where to go.

Yep you can solve it with the patch which is posted at the top of this topic, the new version is uploading now as we speak. But the people who downloaded the game can use the patch :)
-
just found another bug, when you a moving that grave for the dwarf, the controls are all messed up and the grave won't move the way you want it to.
the games looks pretty promising by the way, you seem to have a well developed battle system.

That one is fixed, as well as some other ones, a patch for all of this will come out tomorrow :)

• One of the biggest offline anime adventures ever made.
Can't these just all be condensed into one point? It feels like you're trying to needlessly inflate your list of features.
-
OK, Ive given it a go. If I ware to give you an honest opinion it would be a rather large wall of text pointing out all its flaws, and that's only after two painfully boring hours of playing. Sadly, unless the next patch speeds up the text and walking speed, I'm going to find it hard to continue playing since the only thing worse than having to go through bad mapping/visuals and bad dialog is having to do it very slowly.
I think this game has tons of potential but the sum off all its flaws pretty much kills any enjoyment.

I'm sorry both is not going to happen, I need to change all texts (thousands and thousand of textboxes) for that. And the moving speed is also made in conjunction with a lot of events.
-
I half expected you would say that.
In all honesty I really can't understand why you though slow scrolling text and snail speed movement was a good idea in a game with a large amount of dialog and emphasis on exploration. Ill try playing further and see if the game picks up. One thing that is without a doubt certain at this point though, is that the game lacks polish.
If you're open to some feedback, and some elaboration on why I pined the "bad" tag on so many elements I'll be happy to share my opinion. I wont blame you if you don't really want to read any more criticism of a game you obviously spent a lot of time and effort on. Ill leave the decision up to you though.
-
I completely agree with Maxximum, this is a finished game that needs some polishing. Your custom title says your a "Experienced Java and Rpgmaker programmer" if you are then why can't you just fix the slow scrolling text and movement speed? Even if it is a lot of work and takes a long time it will be worth it, think of it this way since you have taken the trouble of making a game you might as well look into these things and improve it.
-
Just a suggestion. In your next patch, could you include all files that your game uses so that I don't have to install your RTP if I've already got the RTP I'm using set up? It would cut a sizable chunk off your .zip size, which is already a tad bit big.

Good idea, I will make a new version for that soon, the patch will change only some minor bugs.

Because then I need to adjust all the texts in the game I believe there are more than 10.000 of them that implies a month work. Besides of that a lot sometimes those texts are synchronized with the events in the game.
I don't know if you are talking about the intro or in the real game, but in the real game the texts are made on average reading speed, and you can press them away when the text is finished. I don't think that, that is such a big deal. Yeah ok maybe a very fast reader needs to wait a half second so what? I also think that the texts in my game are not much slower than other than most other rpg games on console's.
The intro text however, is a lot slower, but this is because you need to keep in mind that there are also slow readers that play in my game. The intro is fully automatic, therefore slow readers ( often non English people ) need enough time to read, so that they understand the story as well.
These texts are made with everyone in mind, I think this is the right way to please the most of the people. If you don't agree with that I'm sorry, but these things were planned from day 1 and are not going to be changed.
Of course I'm still open for other suggestions.
-
I was talking about the intro, hey instead of showing a wall of text why don't you show some scenes or interaction between characters so that the intro is a bit more interesting, I really do hate intros that are like that.
-

Hm ok, I will look for some ways to make the intro some faster.
-
You shouldn't be comparing your game to a console game because console games allow you to skip/scroll text faster by pressing a button so slow text is justified in console games.
As for this game, just hold shift :D Whenever a game has auto closing text boxes, I just hold shift and skip it all. I hate boring/long intros and I just want to start playing something within 5 minutes of pressing "new game".

I wasn't though, I mean the regular "walk up to NPC and talk" text scrolling speed its incredibly slow. Even if someone is a slow reader the text stops and waits for input before moving to the next box so there really wasn't any reason to give it the slo-mo treatment. The fact that "these things were planned from day 1" makes it all the more baffling.
Since you didn't reply to my question about feedback I'm gonna assume you don't care for any more criticism.
I suppose all that's left is to congratulate you on finishing this game since very few people have the patience to complete a project of this size (or any size for that matter).
Well done, looking forward to more from you.
-
Hm ok, I will look for some ways to make the intro some faster.
The problem with the intro is two things here:
- It's boring a wall of text
- It's slow
Now if we take out the slowness out of the equation, it's still a boring wall of text... The intro is supposed to make me hooked to play your game further, your not exactly doing a good job if your just showing a wall of text.
-
wall of text? we see an alien spaceship lay waste to a planet, I thought the intro was pretty darn good, much better than most intros I see. A bit drawn out maybe, but otherwise very good, it's certainly got me hooked.
-
Hmm downloaded and play abit.
Like most comment the intro is kinda slow and long.
(the good is we get to skip it. but for most who dun wish to miss intro. we have to get through the long intro.)
But luckily it still hook me.
The battle tutorial is kinda slow too, player got to go through all of it.
The graphic-i dun really like the rtp style battle character set, but thats just me.
Map design and some of face set kinda crash and dun seems to match well.
But i only play alittle so i cant judge or tell whether later on maps will be improve.
Lastly thumbs up for the effort for making finish the game.

He he says more about u than me, I didn't see anything sexual in it whatsoever, until you guys said it.
-
Will my saves be ok after the patch or will I risk bugging up if I don't start over?
On a side note, you might want to optimise or split your overworld in the next patch. I'm getting some rather nasty slow down that I don't get anywhere else in the game.

Looks pretty sexual to me.

Nope you can still use your saves.
About the worldmap, it was even around 5 till 10 times worse in the beta :naughty:, now it runs fine on most machines.
Is it that bad then? Because nobody else complained about it yet. The size of the map is not the problem there are a lot of custom event running, it only happens on old pc's But I try to look for ways to reduce the lag. However splitting the map is unfortunately not possible for many reasons.
You might want to consider to register on my board, you can better post the bugs or suggestions there so that I have 1 place where I can find them all ;)
http://finaltear3.freeforums.org/
As well you can post you favorite characters talk about the game, help other people or ask help from other people etc.
-
Well, let me put it this way. The screen pretty much freezes after a step or two and then refreshes a moment later, a few steps and it freezes again ect. The character still responds to key input and if I visualise it right I can still make him go where I want, very annoying though.
If you have a lot of looping events you should make sure you have a "wait 0" at the end of the loops/events. Apparently it reduces the lag significantly.
-

it seems like a LOT of people in this thread think you have a big ol' dick on your cover, and of course you wouldn't have noticed because you already knew what it was supposed to be
it's not that we have dirty minds it's just that you inadvertently made a spaceship that looks a lot like a dong

You call that laying waste? "Some ship hovers over the planet and some paint drawn explosions are shown over the planet then the planet disappears". You really found that interesting to watch?
To improve this you could have shown some laser beams or missles being shot from the ship to the planet and use a better explosion animation, and also make it look as if the ship is actually in space not just a static graphic that doesn't animate.

Well, in all fairness, the ship does actually shoot some beams at the planet. The fact that it looks like a giant world crushing penis that laughs every time it passes the screen does somewhat break the mood though.

Hmm I know, if it is good all events have a wait now but I will check it out for you and I hope that I can fix it before patch 1.3 tommorow.

Awesome update!
-
Awesome update!
Thx! Still it won't be the last I assure you :P But I think that's good even if there are a million patches, if it makes the game better it is only a good thing.
-
Normalized walking speed across the whole game
I wish you would have made it faster, it really is painfully slow.
@Maxx is the lag less now? On the worldmap?
Yes, it doesn't lag at all now. Good job.
A small bug for your next patch: the intro will run even if you chose to skip it (just the "skip intro" option, the "intro + 2 hours" works fine).
-

No it does work, the first part of the intro is shown because of the credits, the rest is skipped. (to give the people who worked on this game their credit)
-
It seems that the gravestone you have to push for the dwarf is still working incorrectly. I was playing version 1.2, and it claimed that this bug was fixed, but I am unable to move the stone to the right unless I stand below it for a second and then turn my character to the left. This wouldn't be a problem if the stone didn't lock into place on the cliff-side, disabling me from continuing. It seems that no matter where I try to move it from, the dwarf says, "Not that way, you (forgot the name)!".
The intro seemed a bit comical, what with the prince essentially going on and on about "HE HE HE! These people are DEAD. They WILL DIE!! HE HE HE HE HE!". I'm not sure if you were aiming for a sort of "ugh" scene, but that's about as far as I assumed.

Hmm I will took into this now, btw always update to the newest version.
Edit: It works with me....just push the right button it should move, I don't see any errors in it...

so have people given up on this game, i'm currently around 2/3 of the way through the game and am determined to finish it, the game gets pretty darn hard later.
-
You know, I got through the opening cutscene (which simply lasted too long. It wasn't cool or artistic or anything it was simply boring). But by the time it was finished I was so unimpressed that I just did NOT want to play on...
-
Final_tear2, please explain to me how you coded your gravestone pushing event, or how you are supposed to push it to the east when it doesn't allow you to. Either I forgot to do something back in town, or there's still a bug residing in the coding of that event, because it is clearly not working.

You wouldn't happen to be trying to use the action key to get it to move would you? All you have to do is walk into it to get it to move. Mashing the action key tends to mess it up for some reason.
-
I've also tried just walking into it. Do I have to just tap it and then wait for it to move?

yeah, just tap it and wait for it to move. Its probably a collision event that checks what direction the hero is facing when it triggers.
-
well i've beaten the game, it was pretty good, better than most of the games on this forum, the final boss was a nightmare but i eventually managed to pull it off.
-
Well, Final Tear 3 will be re released next month. I have made a lot of improvements to the time these months thx to Alex Jones and some other people.
However there is still time to have some critics so that I can improve those, I believe maxim had some, I read over those words, so if you would like can you give me those critics?
Anyway, I'm considering to speed up the text for NPC's and small events.
So if anyone has some improvement to add now is the time to give them :)

If you mean me then, if I remember right, one of my bigger problems with your game was the slow walking and text speeds. There was a bunch of other stuff that I cant remember anymore but I think that this was what ultimately made me stop playing.

One thing that I would like to see added to the game is the choice to skip all the tutorials that the old man insists on throwing at you. For those who gave your game a shot before, or even those who know how to battle and can figure out how to work with the orb menu on their own, this would help.

Yeah those are skippable now, a lot of people complained about that so now you can skip all tutorials in the game. If that's a wise disision that's an other question but they are skippable.
Most of the text of events are sped up as well, with the exeption of important conversations. But all systems in and outside battle have faster texts now.
These are the changes that are made now, if you think there need to be more you can send those in till begin april. (the changes of skippable tutorials are already done in the previous version)
Temporary changes Final Version:
• Added around 100 extra treasure chests in the whole game
• Nerfed the secret bosses a lot (even at most things maxed out they are really a pain in the ass now they are more doable)
• Removed the bug that the ribbon does not work.
• Improved dialogue and plot holes in some important events.
• Judas bullets nerfed. (Judas gun bullets can be really OP when you have a lot of money, so I nerfed the damage increases a bit)
• Removed some big bugs in the desert, like day and night bugs, also the music of walking trough day has changed, as well the tents are a bit adjusted.
• Increased orb exp pay-out on later levels. (this will take care that spells are learned much faster when you are on high levels)
• Non elemental spells who give increase on all orb elements now only give orb exp to the elements you have orbs equipped. This takes care that you cannot learn spells without having the orb of that element equipped.
• Now you don’t have to pick Vincent in a certain fight!
• Removed a bug that other characters benefit from the attack increase of Judas bullets.
Increased severely the toughness to cross the ice glacier with the following changes
• Further decreased magic defense and defense on heat suits
• Heat suits now increase all ice attacks that are inflicted on u with 33%
• You cannot run anymore from fights on the ice glacier.
• Added some extra treasures
• Temperature will be back to 37 when you touch a save point
But a good thing now is that you can see your temperature all the time.
• Reduced HP of most monsters in the game. (this to shorten the fights a bit, bosses stay unchanged though)
• Found out that Jessie and Judas in team are quite OP, stacking skills can be insane strong. Therefore increased defense on all physical enemies quite a lot.
• Attack in the higher segment nerfed.
• Increased slightly the cost of magic restoring items.
• Added 2 new spells for Jessie focus and Concentrate which will increase orb magic 40%, however his dumb and dumbness are removed.
• Angel feather now inflicts the focus status as well
• Boss Trocadero magic defense severy nerfed.
• Bug in the Exendia labs solved where the grass land appear as battle background on the dark floors.
• Buffed the spells hurricane, typhoon tornado and cyclone.
• Slightly nerfed sword and gun in attack
• Removed the bug that the big fluff cannot execute the grand shake very well.
• Fixed some door errors at Reveria ship
• Summons now disappear next fight if you didn’t call them in the fight.
• Changed balance of all monsters and bosses, physical enemies have now a better defense but
worse magic defense, magic monster now have a better magic defense but worse defense.
• Completed the monster arena
• Made all graphical status effects for Vincent, he will not disappear anymore.
• Added new attacks and monsters for the monster arena
• Sped up the texts of the book upgrade event.
• Sped up the text of the summon yard
• Changed all graves into different color spirits on the summon yard, now it easier to see which summon belongs to which spirts.
• Summon spirits will now animate when you obtained their aura and activated them
• All texts of the save point sped up
• Removed the bug that bahamut level is not blocked at 100.
• Added a summon level shower in the summon yard.
• Increased starting levels of the secret summon Marlboro and Bahamut.
• Shortened the intro with 33%(by removing not necessary texts)
• Sped up the texts of the battle tutorial.
• Sped up the text of the advanced stacking tutorial and the summon synchronize event.
• Bahamut is now easier to find in the desert.
• Reduced the min level to obtain bahamut from 60 to 45.
• Made the connection between the real world and the world with the secret boss.
• Changed the intro music.
• Added a test dummy battle in most dungeons, this is a battle where you can fight against a dummy who does not attack so that you can practice your skills and attack combinations. You need to touch the gold armor to enter it.
• Removed the bug that you have a iron sword equipped at the start of the game
• Changed the chest puzzle so that the introduction text doesn’t appear everytime

Let's hope that the final version includes all missing files. I'm not sure if this link was the same as the old, but it missing the "Vehicles" file, and I remember the last time I played it, there were a few more.

Yeah its the best to wait for the Final Version, there will be new attacking animations for the characters as well as some big changes. It prob comes out somewhere in april it depends a bit on how fast my animator is finished.

Some updated information: I haven't hard anymore from my animator so I think he's not going to make them anymore so I will prob relaease the game within 1 or 2 weeks with the old attacking animations.

The game will be released soon
There's a beta of the website online with some basic stuff be sure to watch it and comment on it.
