Post by: Swordfish on September 25, 2009, 03:15:01 pm

Steam games don't connect, Aion won't connect, LOTRO won't connect. So i figured i need a proxy program, but i'm not sure what i need or if thats really the answer, so can someone please point me in the right direction? and fast?

But, thank you for the sugestions.

I'd reckon the ports are blocked. You'd need to a) ask them to open specific ones for you, b) change the ports your game is using, c) find a way to forward it to specific ports that are open.

you can pretty much bet that the university isn't going to open ports for you to game, so scratch that one off the list

don't waste your time or the universities time by wasting your time by playing trivial video games when you could be studying for a career that will dictate the way that your future turns out?

atari is... right I'm afraid. You have to threaten to drop out if you want to continue your career as the demoman or perhaps an elf. give em hell.

no offence but do you guys bother to read? i did say, University acomadation, which in tern should have pointed to the computer i'm using wihin the acommadation, further proof of this is the time frame i mentoind, it's still freshers week. i take it that no one knows about any proxy redirection software or tunnling programe.

uh my dorm has a computer lab in the basement, so how about you don't assume every university is the same and not get mad at people for asking questions whose answers might help you?

WEll i apolagise, but so far every university acommadation i went to as been the same (i don't mean litteraly the same), so if from expierance its been the same then i can make such an assumption, however i have just been proven wrong, any way getting off track. i think the best thing i can do is wait till monday (so irritating) and get them to expose my computer and let my own firewall deal with any hacking.

nearly exam time here buddy, but i should've known your puny arms wouldn't have been able to carry a laptop to university. if you're using their computers: sucks to be you. there's probably a really difficult way around it but it'll get you in trouble

most universities aren't gonna do this, they're not concerned with your security, they're concerned with THEIRS, and they are gonna want you to conform to their standards.  my university's internet won't even let you connect without having your computer up to date and having an antivirus from a specific list installed.  may not be like this everywhere, but they aren't going to go out of their way to open things up for you, especially if it's just to play games

buy a psp and smuggle videogames into it, and waste your time on that

spend the rest of your time studying/working(out)/being a better person

either way thank your university for forcing you out of shitty mmorpgs.

Now there's an idea.

How about instead of trying so hard to play online video games on campus, you just spend your free time on campus reading books?

my college (college != university so maybe that's the thing) opened up ports for Warhammer Online (way back when it was still beta and I had interest in video games) but the guys who run the internet security stuff also really wanted to play it and didn't know what ports to open.

i don't think it would make a difference.  the real difference here is that there was a whole bunch of people who wanted to play some specific thing, whereas swordfish here just doesn't want to meet new people and would rather just play MMOs in his room
