Title: Gaming World Game Making Competition

are there any plans for GW to have another competition? It might be a good way of getting new members; which is nice.  :welp:

Why did you put this and general? I hope so, though. Drule has SOMETHING planned, but I don't think he's said what it is. In order to really get something going someone would have to fork up a bit of $$$.

I couldn't have made a game in less than a month entirely on my own, otherwise I would've entered. Maybe others felt the same? One topic in one forum doesn't mean nobody cares about any of the other forums except General. Of course General is going to get more hits/topics because it is--surprisingly--non-specific, but other people are posting in other forums.

I would totally want to do one of the competitions... but it would have to be when my baby girl is sleeping and the hubster shuts up for a minute about me and the computer (love of my life..... <3)

We should make another community game.

You know what I'm willing to go half in on someone or maybe three of us and do this when I get back if anyone else is up for it.

But I'm gonna have fun with it

We should make another community game.
Did we finish the last one? iirc they're still working on it, but I haven't checked in as late.

You present a good idea with the month-timeline. You know, we can do what nanowrimo does and have a nagamamo (national game making month) deal, where you if you finish you get a big clap on the back, but if your game is any good you can win some prizes, etc. If we can host something like this and make it as extensive as nanowrimo is, I think we can get *loads* of people developing for the community over time. Best part is that most people will want to participate just to finish a project and get street cred.

since we've always been competing with other forums for our demographic, this will give us lots of exposure and entice people to join.

If anyone has any suggestions for prizes we could potentially offer, feel free to post them. Drule and I have a few ideas but I'd like to see what you guys can think up.

I'm pretty sure many of the accepted submissions for the IGF (http://www.igf.com/) had illegal or unauthorized content. Barkley for one was accepted and had a lot of unlicensed graphics and audio, so this really shouldn't be a problem. The responsibility is with the creator who will have to claim copyright of all submitted material.

Hopefully it isn't a very open ended contest. Whenever I am left to my own when it comes to game ideas I end up making them much too big to complete in one month, but if it's a specific theme that inspires a good idea for a game I can make quickly, then I'll be all over such a contest.

good to hear somethings planned. i say a semi-strict theme is good as well...... pretty much for what EDC said.

I think you have to psyche yourself out and just make one.

Whatever competition this might be, I'ma make the best goddamn RTP game ever made in the history of mankind.

That's why I have been waiting for a contest.

I don't think I can properly psyche myself to make a game on self-determination alone, and an organized event with a timeline/deadline is likely to force me straight into the process with enough of a chance of actually seeing it through.

Either way, I feel that once I can finish making a first game, it will be a lot easier in my mind to work through any other game idea I happen to have, no matter how convolutely large my aspirations for it are.
