I'm currently looking for a new Xbox game and I don't really think there are any good ones out there right now, so I might reconsider Resident Evil 5. What I'm wondering is if there are any horror elements at all in this game or if the entire game revolves around shooting black guys in broad daylight.
-
I played a bit of the demo and didn't see any horror, but that might not be the same as the whole game.
-
if NEGROS are horrifying then re5 is the game for you. i don't know anything more about it as NEGROS is too horrifying for me
i just use my 360 to play rez when i'm high. other than that it is a very good paperweight. i keep my notepad on top of the 360 which is better functionality than anything else they added to the system.

I'll be honest and say that resident evil is more of an action survival game now! I don't see any horror in it like the older games, after resident evil 4 it kinda lost the horror...
-
A good bud of mine played through it recently and said that it's nothing at all like Resident Evil from start to finish and that he was never scared/frightened even once and never even really jumped. Like SupremeWarrior said, it's action survival.
He also bitched about poor gameplay mechanics, such as not being able to back up and shoot your gun at the same time.
-
This game has its weaknesses, and it's certainly not survival horror, but it's pretty tense at times. Especially in the mercenaries mode, where you're being chased by one of the big fuckers and you don't have any ammo. The multiplayer is very good, especially coop mercenaries!
The single player game isn't really scary. Even 4 had some tense moments, but this one isn't presented as well. The whole point of the game mechanics UPRC mentioned is to make it more tense, but unless you are new you won't be scared. That's not to say there isn't a lot of great stuff in the single player, as there are some really interesting locales, but it could have been a much better game. But yeah, Mercenaries is a great mode.
-
Ok, then this is now a suggest good 360 games that aren't action or sport games thread.
-
Potentially counts as action so if it does than APOLOGIES. But i thought Prince of Persia was pretty sweet. I really really enjoyed everything about this game, the graphics, the setting and, even though he was a bit of a douche, I even took a liking to the Prince. Plus it's probably quite cheap now as well. Probably far better games out there but this is the only one that came to mind that I've actually played.

How about fighters, Drule?
-
if you like horror, dead space is a far better buy than resident evil 5. that game has such an intense atmosphere
-
It's still worth buying, I mean the multiplayer is quite fun from what I have seen.
-
dead space is incredibly clunky and counter-intuitive, at least for the pc. is it better on 360?

Resident Evil 1 even had the horror of bad voice acting :'(

i've never played it on pc but on 360 its like resident evil 5 controls only you can MOVE WHILE SHOOTING!! the only thing that felt clunky to me was the melee attacks which were slow but you hardly use them anyway
-
i don't get your gripes about dead space, it's a really boss game imo
the control scheme is exactly what resident evil should've been doing and it's pretty great
-
It was ok but some shitty things like the crappy inventory system and bad ai got in the way a bit but I did like it better when playing with friends. I kinda wish it was longer too, it took me around 15 hours all together to beat RE4 on my first playthrough but RE5 was 9 hours but that was soley due to me and my friend teaming up every time I turned it on but even a solo playthrough took only 12 hours which is a little disappointing. Also, boy was the "Stand and Shoot" idea shitty for verses.
-
if any of you were 'scared' by a resident evil game
and you were older than 14
you are a manchild
-
maybe i'm a hypocrite tho but
doom 3 on the other hand was terrifying for the first half and dead space is shit-your-pants until the writing gets laughably bad
if you haven't played doom 3 i think it's on xbox live downloadables and is definitely worth playing, better on pc though

Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition
FUCK YOU CAPCOM!
From what i can tell, same game, with a chris flashback. Maybe with the multiplayer DLC they charge extra for unlocked already. I enjoyed Resident evil 5 as a game, kinda fun. Specially with a friend. but to pay for it again. Bastards.
EDIT:
A Random Article i googled.

hilarious
also remember those motion controls x360 and ps3 revealed at e3 that were basically a blow to the face for the wii because they were kinda better?
well i saw some less vague designs and test vids, including lbp and re5
basically lbp used the ps3 wand as a pointer to move shit and whatnot
while re5 used the wand like re4:wii uses the wii-mote
so re5:wii is on ps3
idk if this ALTERNATE EDITION will have native support for it even though there are no dates for the wand and all????
edit: you didnt link any articles about this
but i just read one and yeah the alt edition is re5 with motion controls and extra content
;d

Did anyone else get the feeling playing RE5 that it had been built as a single-player game and repurposed it at the last minute? I liked the game a lot, but I hated the forced co-op mechanics because I don't really like playing multiplayer games. It just felt to me like you could have removed the AI partner and only slightly adjusted a few scenarios in the game and it would have worked out.
It really let me down that I could not play Professional mode single-player because the AI partner would die all the time (I never got past the first scenario). In the Professional mode you don't have time to revive her ever.

Yeah I found that annoying in Resident Evil 4 as well except the AI partner in this game actually does something other than standing around waiting to get kidnapped.

Playing through RE5 with my gf was the best game experience I've ever had.
I might be a little bias but I felt the coop really worked well.

Yeah same, I played through with one of my friends and we had sooooo much fun with it. The best bits were usually the parts where you're yelling at each other in really tense moments or the moments where you really felt like you were IN something together. I tried to play it single player once, but it was just no way near as fun.
He also bitched about poor gameplay mechanics, such as not being able to back up and shoot your gun at the same time.
Me and my friend just didn't get that. We really couldn't get why people were bitching on about that... it felt fine as it was. I'd probably not have bothered if they put in moving while aiming, it would have ruined the feel of the game (you really felt you had to time when to attack)

haha
not a very good game, though I've beaten it like 5 times (sad

Resident Evil takes another turn for the worse. I just don't like the direction this series has taken.
