I'm just curious, really. I've been here for awhile and I've never even come CLOSE to finishing a project, and I was wondering if anyone was in the same boat. I was thinking maybe us lamers can get together to make a project in the coming competition.
-
I've completed two and left about ten unfinished.
-
I've completed more projects then I've abandoned.
-
Question: How the hell do you do that?
Seriously. What is it that keeps you motivated? Is it just the urge to finish a project, or do you do something extra to keep you interested in your game?
-
yes I completed one but I got really lazy towards the end and this was when I was like 11

Well, the games I make are usually fairly simple and level-based, so I don't have nearly as long of a development time as more complex projects, like RPGs. That and I don't really get bored with working on my game.
-
i think it is sad how we all lose motivation for these kind of projects as we get older. i wish i knew how to fight that in a better way.
i finished one game when i was 14 or something. it was called princess on a quest and it wasn't good. i wish i could find it again but i lost all the files long ago.
-
i did. but only once. and it wasn't a very big game.
I think I am going to make a cool generic rpg maker game this semester, just to say that I did.
-
i made a gam twice. i completed both of them. the first one was really lame and was about legos. the second one i completed in a day or two because of a ducats incentive. i got some ducats and i was really proud of it.
-
ermm....um....errr.....rmm.......*points to siggy*
-
whens' chapter 2 comign out dogchode you said you were wroking on it whens' it comming out
-
I know that using RPG Maker isn't saying much, but I have finished a few games back in my youth, even if they weren't lengthy epics.
EDIT: Forgot about "Tales from Zilmurik" which was started and finished within 8 hours, this includes the few hours of break time and bug fixes so it'd probably be less.
-
yes I completed one but I got really lazy towards the end and this was when I was like 13
-
I made a 5 minute game joke game for my friends when I was 15. That's how I found this site. I'm stil here
-
I completed one, but it ended with the words "To be continued..." and was fairly buggy in places.
-
I made this piece of shit while stoned in programming class:

highest score gets a choc muffin and coffee

no, not counting the calculator games I made in high school math class. I'm really bored by anything math-related but coding in math class was much better than doing the work. I'd rather use math to actually create something than use math to destroy
-
I've only finished games when there was the possibility of earning money from doing so
-
I will give you $20 if you finish Raizend AD.
-
That's a tempting offer but it will have to wait until after january!
-
I'll give you $20 too. Have it done before New Years.
-
I will when I have the time I swear to jesus
-
I finished three games, but the subject matter turns most people away at the title screen.
I just got back into working on my 4th. Sometimes I just can't find the motivation to work on it, and others I can't put it down for five minutes! I guess it's more about persistence than timeliness.
-
Out of the 3 time I tried to make an RPG I always got side tracked on helping others then working on mine.... But right now I'm currently working on Episodic Levels for Little Big Planet. Currently working out mechanics and the Enemies of the level and I have dialog and story Planed out(So every thing is moving at full speed to a release for EPs 1 But the title is Pending ATM)... Can't wait for the Water pack... I might have something Planed for that.
-
None, I like rpgmaker for about a year.
-
Completed a short game made in rpgmaker03 as part of some 24 hour comp on the site here. The one where we had to make a game based on a fairy tale, by the end.. only 2 of us had completed a short game and I came in second.
-
I guess The Diary of Anne Frank (http://www.talesofgames.com/annefrank/), but it was a compo game and I don't really think it represents my abilities. Hopefully I'll have a new game coming out soon.
-
I wouldn't say it was the best. There's room to improve. But yes.
-
yeah i made this for a contest : http://gamejolt.com/freeware/games/puzzle/typhophobia/595/
i can't say its below my abilities (which it is) because technically it is the only thing i've finished.
i didn't win.
-
I have a few finished, mostly RPG Maker. 3 finished which are available, I lost some older ones that were on my old computer but they sucked anyway. I tried a project in Flash, but since it was for school, I was really deadlined for it so it ended up more of a short visual novel with sprites rather than a game. Then there's some text based stuff in Basic and C++ but I don't really count those, and it's been years.
Will be using RMVX for the current project and then I'll see what I'll do after that.
-
A game is never finished... only abandoned....
Yes, mostly because they were my final projects for the computer science classes I took in high school. Then there are a few short RPG Maker games (mostly mini-game fests, but occasionally a short RPG).
-
If "Guess a number from 1 to 100" running under DOS prompt falls under the definition of-
Fuck it, I'll just check "no".
-
I've never made a game in my life I just checked the box so I could feel special for a few seconsd
-
I made one or 2 balls awful games between me n my friends (and i think the latest of the two made it on Epiphany Gaming)
Nothing big or longer than like 2-3hrs gameplay :/
-
I've finished one shitty short game back when I was 14, so it counts.
-

Yeah, I made a crappy calculator collection of games. It had guess the number from 1-50 that tells you if you are too high or too low and then when you win it gives you how many tries it took. If you put in the code (100) then any number you pick you automatically win, even if the number was over 50 haha. It had a dice game where you guess what the dice will land on with one or two dice, or you could just roll one or two dice if you were playing a board game for example you could use it as a dice. Then it had a math quiz you could pick addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, or mix and each one had like ten equations you could answer. It took a LONG time for me to code it and its retarded!
-
In middle school I made an 8 minute game in which you fight martha stewart and some teacher i didn't like.
But fuck, I considered it finished and who are you to tell me my childhood self is wrong?
-
Huh... a better PERSON?

well cool but I meant like actual games. our one teacher taught us how to program calculators to make trig programs so it was pretty easy to take it from there. I made a dating sim and side scroller and stuff but I never figured out the draw commands so they always had Xs as enemies and }s as ships etc

Yeah I sucked.
-
yes, but only because i have some stellar friends who do not appear to object to my throwing words and thoughts into their game. i wouldn't be able to physically make one from the ground up on my own. i'm really just keen on the storytelling end of it. i'd probably just dig into novel writing if i found myself without spectacular people to work with.

i haven't finished a game (the one I am working on is maybe 80-85% done though) but this describes me almost exactly
edit: i am learning a hell of a lot about game maker, though
-
Well I was going to say yes I finished one rm2k3 game called Dungeon Dwellers. A 3-4 hour rpg. But then I read people's replies and it reminded me of other stuff I've done.
I made several complete rpgs in QBasic when I was in school. Most of them fit into a series called Barnespa. Which I later turned into a novel series, although I started the 1st book of the novel series in 1998 and I'm still not done with that! So yeah anyway. I also made a Fortune Telling (magic 8 ball) kind of game where you asked a yes or no question and it had like 200 different ways of telling you yes or no or just something random and weird. I don't have any of the Qbasic games anymore though, computers started not working with DOS and so Qbasic became unusable. And of course formats and new computers and stuff like that came along.
-
i have finished 542 games to be exact and I have abandoned only one. This was due to flesh eating bacteria living in my keyboard. I am trained in fighting armed opponents, not microscopic ones. You see I am a practitioner of Gojuru Karate and I am a Sensei, I have recently attained my purple belt for mastering covering my blind spot. Try and get me now you damn dustbunnies.

sssshhhuuuuuttt uuuuuppppppp
-
i just finished a new game for THE POPPENKAST.
here it is: http://gamejolt.com/freeware/games/action/mars-balloon-jumping-adventure/875/
-
I've made a couple. But nothing good. And my batting average is pretty awful, I've abandoned far more than I've finished.
-
My 1st main game was called "Zor" and was programmed for a handheld device called the Cybiko which some of you may remember if you google it. Russian design I think it was... You can still download the .app to put onto a Cybiko and play it if you know where to look.
It was an RPG based on an island. Text-based but with some pictures.
-
This is the first time I've ever heard of the Cybiko but it looks awesome. I want to play with one now.
-
I've completed a few games back in the day, though they were quite awful.
-
I've only been able to finish smaller projects. I've never actually finished an RPG though.
-
I've finished another game, with my mate Ghostdev91:
http://gamejolt.com/freeware/games/action/deeducation/882/
This time for Mini-LD 13. www.ludumdare.com
-
- Miracle on RTP Street Classic
- Fat Schwombo's Castle Classis
- Star Trek Voyager: Individual (sux!)
And in December I will release the biggest and longest game I've ever made. It is already done, but we are testing it very intensively at the moment and I still have to fix a lot of shit.
