So it turns out that Tom Waits has a new live double album coming out that features performances from his 2008 "Glitter and Doom" tour.

There are many cool things about this news, the first being that you can download an 8 song preview of the album, and the other being that one of the discs will essentially be a "Storytime with Tom Waits" disc.
You can get the free preview at http://www.tomwaits.com/news/ From what I've listened to it has very good performances of some classics, so you owe it to yourself to at least get these songs for free.

I downloaded the preview, and the versions are pretty good, although he made a few interesting choices with regard to timing and improvised sections. I was lucky enough to see him on that tour, but I'm curious what dates the performances on the cd were taken from because I could have sworn he sounded a bit stronger on a couple of these at the date I attended.
Also, this reminded me of trying to get out of the parking lot after the show. My friend and I were blocked in/walled off by traffic for a while, so we just started bellowing our way through a cappella renditions of some of our favorite Tom Waits material that didn't get played. We actually had some of our fellow concert goers who were walking/driving by cheering us during "Come on up to the house" heh.
