p-burn moment:before saying what the problem is, please go away if you are intending to post "heh ipods suck"
so then
I have an iPod Classic latest gen I do suppose, 120gb
I was using it at school today on winamp on a windows xp pc, sorting out big playlists and all
when i finished i closed everything and plugged it out(without doing the safe unplug thing first, though)
it then said "g: (ipod drive) cannot be found" or something along those lines
I did plug it back in and unplug it using the safe unplug thing later on and it still said the same thing
I have no clue what would have been accessing it at that time, but whatever
The problem is:
the iPod seems to not have any songs/videos/playlists on it anymore, while all the settings are intact and the About screen shows 91gb left instead of it being empty
and when I look at it in winamp (and possibly any other ipod managing program) the songs are there and playable
I don't know if anyone had this happen to them before or read something like this, but I'd like to know if you guys have an idea what I could do to get it to see the songs it has again. I tried rebooting, but to no avail. Worst case scenario I will have to transfer all the songs to my pc (because yes, they are not all on my PC so losing them would be terrible), format and then re-transfer, but I really don't want to do that.
Any clues?

i have exactly the same ipod as you.

as much as it is okay to do it with other things don't do this with an ipod! you'll have to resync your ipod, and you'll probably lose whatever is not on your PC (i have no idea how this can be though?)

i never actually SYNC'd my ipod
i always added songs individually with winamp using send to->
the sync button however is there
edit: syncing is why i hate itunes because i added all my songs with winamp once and then tried itunes and it synced my ipod with my itunes library which surprise surprise was empty
super edit: another thing i tried after the songs "disappeared" was making a song with a random tag on winamp and sending it to the ipod to see if it would say "1 song"
but no, technically it is there but it doesn't appear either

This page, even though from 2005, actually had a fix for my problem. THANK GOODNESS
Sorry for wasting your time GW, I just made this post before googling to be extra sure to end up with a solution.
edit: after extra fiddling (because it was fixed but somehow missing about 80 songs from the list) it is back to normal, and the playlists i made this afternoon are even there
a++ thanks internet
i'm lucky to have found this site since every other place says FORMAT YOU IPODS
