Basically, my Dad hates me. And it's finally reached the point where is genuinely going to kick me out (he's a heartless bastard). The only thing is... where do I try to go and what do I take with me?
First off: None of the rest of the family is willing to take me... none of my friends will be able to have me over, apart from the odd days and the Government will most likely not be able to shelter me, as I'm no longer a "child" and I'm not a woman and don't have any children...
What the fuck do I do.
If it's of any importance, I live in the UK, in a small town 30 minutes away from London on the train.
-
what town? there's quite a few people here orbiting london
-
come to muy 'ouse love we put you up roight
im sorry thats insensitive im very sorry for your situation

is it possible to check in the YMCA or something like that?
http://www.ymca.org.uk/bfora/systems/xmlviewer/default.asp?arg=DS_YMCA_WEBART_99/_page.xsl/140
-
how much is an apartment where you live? how hard is it to get a job?
-
how old are you? 18? dang.
i am now worried my dad can kick me out :fogetscared:
-
The closest YMCA there to me is London, which is quite a trek in itself, as I don't really know London. And it's a minimum of £500 a month and very hard to get a job here... I've been trying damn hard to get one ever since I've left college.
-
look further up the country.
-
That sounds awfully high for the YMCA. I used to live in Hertfordshire, just north of London and I paid £350 month excluding bills for a 4 bedroom house. Are you claiming job seekers allowance? You know you can get housing benefits as well?
-
350 a month what? I live in bucks and you could just about get a one bedroom flat for that.
-
yeah but three other people were paying the same, so its £1400 a month for the house split between 4

Sorry, I meant it's £500 for a standard apartment, not YMCA associated. May I also add, I only have about £200 on me at the moment. I AM currently seeking Job Seeker's allowance... and by housing benefits, do you mean additional money given to me for renting a place?
-
yeah. My brother lives in Camden Town in North London and when he came back from 3 months in Nepal he was unemployed and he claimed housing benefits to pay £120 a week. I'm not sure whether you need an existing property to claim or if you are entitled to it before getting a place
-
Okay, that sounds like a tasty idea. I'll probably attempt it. If not, I'm not sure what I'll do...
-
first things first, grab all your computer gear, consoles, and games.
-
first things first, grab all your computer gear, consoles, and games.
and sell them
also get any kind of job you can. Maybe there's higher chances to get a job outside london than within? I dunno
-
Very difficult place your in, I was there too. No job, 700$ for rent each month and already behind on bills when I left. It took about 6 weeks to get on my feet, took a job as an assistant manager at mcdonalds. Waited for a great job opening somewhere else and ran for it, ended up with oil and gas service company.
To be honest it is hard, it takes time... make that money stretch all you can and try to work at a pub under the table.
I hope you figure stuff out or your dad would hopefully give you some more time.

what happened? Does your dad just hate you for no reason or are you a deadbeat and or piss him off all the time? I'd say do some shit around the house maybe and show him you're trying to get a job? Tuck your pride in and see what you can do to buy some time, get a job and a place as fast as you can then move out and try to keep it that way.
I'm lucky I'm never home because I'm a real dick to my dad sometimes because he's a drunk and getting dumber as he gets older and I kind of provoke him alot but its like prodding an angry monkey with a stick I can't help it, its funny.
My parents would virtually never kick me out though cus I'm one of the few people in my family thats actually trying to make something of themselves and they don't want to fuck that up. I still wanna move out real bad so I just keep sailing and hope I'll save enough to buy a house soon.

My Dad seems to hate me because I have no real DRIVE towards money. I often finding myself doing things that make me no money, but are things like creating art in one form or another, or watching film and listening to music... he seems to have the impression I should be spending EVERY minute I have looking for a job. I'm never a dick to him either, I always respect the guy as much as I can, but he seems to bring up massive arguements over tiny things. He also can't seem to understand I haven't focused on exactly what I want to do yet (but I'm hoping to aim for getting into film or another media for a living).

So you're just freeloading don't do that. I don't like doing it.

Just get a minimum wage shitty job. That should calm him down.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I AM spending a LOT of time looking for a job or else I wouldn't be able to get my benefits as it is...

this is pretty much all you need to know about how to get by in the world
bang on the system and show that u ready to ride

It sounds like your father expects you to contribute and obviously RM2K games or whatever you do are not the answer. I know a job can be difficult to find right now, but if you really put yourself out there, you can make it happen. I've seen a few people in your situation, and they were not working as hard as they could to find a job. You should devote a good portion of your day to turning in applications and following up on employers you've already spoken with. Following up is very important. Almost every job I've landed was because I called back every couple of days. Show that initiative and make yourself more than just another person among a whole stack of applications.
Your pops will probably not kick you out if you just make a genuine effort to land a job.
-
fags getting kicked out of their houses lmao
how about
stop being fags that people don't want to live with
-
You should be eligible for housing benefit, but because you're under 25, you'll only be able to get the rate for a shared room. Your best bet would probably be to try to find a room in a shared house as the deposit will be a lot lower than for a flat. Saying that, though, it's possible to get flats for £250 a month, but I suspect not around London. I rented a flat in a town called Dunstable for £395 a month. Sometimes a landlord will accept a 'deposit bond' from the council in lieu of you paying a lump sum which is really hard to find. The moving in costs for my flat in Dunstable came to like £900.
Have you tried the council? The waiting lists for council flats are very long, but if you're homeless (but not intentionally homeless - your dad needs to have kicked you out, and you need to have no other place to go), it's considered an emergency and they'll probably put you in a bed and breakfast for a few days until you can sort yourself out a place.
Hope things work out!
-
Yeah, councils will normally have someone you can speak too about this sort of thing. Let them know you might soon be homeless and what your options are. They may also direct you to a few cheap hostels in the area, which is what my little brother lived in for a while.
The link is for housing benefits in medway but I am positive every local council does the same thing, so if you really are as desperate as you say then your first stop should be your local council and making sure you speak to the right person there.

This is why you have so many bums lurking around your streets and people struggling to pay their medical bills. As fuc*ed up as our government may be, we get a lot of support and don't rely on suing our family members for a few hundred bucks... yeah we europeans watch Judge Judy and we laugh our asses off.
-

The system is perfect, those are just lazy people or people who don't have strong enough bootstraps. I'ts evolution bitch
-
hahaha judge judy. Massy quick question does everybody in europe act like they do in monty python?
-
The best part is most Americans don't even watch shows like judge judy. They come on while we're either supposed to be working or when we're asleep or drunk.
-
yeah but it's on right before(or after, idk) the best block of television ever: COPS, Springer, and Maury
big ol' slice of americana right there
-
the UK is pretty much just as trashy as the US imo
watch your back if you move into council housing, wouldn't want any chavs to nick your mobile
-
If you do get kicked out, look into whatever welfare you can. If you qualify for it, you probably need it, and you're paying for it anyway with your tax dollars.
Also, just start saving as much as you can for the inevitability of having to be on your own, whether now or later on in life.
-
I agree with maybe talking to a council housing, that would be a great option. There are also in small towns plenty of under the table jobs available you just gotta put yourself out there and ask both "is there work available under the table or over the table?"
If you can pick up some here and there jobs from neighbors and people around town you can make enough to keep you afloat until you do in fact get a good job.
Another thing I can suggest, this is what my cousins do. They offer grocery services, so you go to the persons house 2 times a week and do their shopping for them, they give you 20-50$ each week for doing their shopping for them twice a week. Not a bad way to make a buck, with doing it for 5 people a week you would be earning at least 100$ a week, not bad IMO.
PS. to those who are joking at the OP's expense, not cool man... not cool... if you were in the same position you'd like a straight answer and a little respect.
-
aren't you supposed to have a job and be moving out of your parents' house when you're 18 anyway under normal circumstances?
-
art thou not supposed to be getting married and moving into your own apprenticeship quarters at 12 anyway under normal circumstances?
-
learning a trade young is a good idea too
-
Lots of people live with their parents past 18, it's a misconception that a kid is supposed to leave the nest at 18, 100 years ago they would not leave until they were married and had a child. In fact, in Pakistan it is even common for parents to keep a son or daughter living with their wife and children in the same home they grew up in or that the parents own.
-
whilst using pakistan as an example is not very useful considering we are talking a purely western scenario here, it is true that a tooooooon of people live with their 'rents past 18. especially in the uk. housing here is pretty nutso, not to mention the current job status (hint: there are none)
also chavs nick ipods, get your facts straight. innit.

that differs from country to country you know. i don't know how much difference between UK and US though but i assume they are exactly the same?!? this isn't a jab yer the man dietcoke :fogetcool:
-
Well you're supposed to pursue the american dream on your own.......

Actually I know people that do that so yeah. Some people make more than 70 bucks a day just by panhandling...and I know people that dumpster dive and make entire feasts out of what they find.

Just do what I did when I left home - jump into a bed sit temporary until you find something better. Just make sure the doors have either 3 or 5 lever locks and not just a shitty yale lock and you'll be fine.

depending on where you live you can actually find meat and bread and tinned stuff and all kinds of things in dumpsters around supermarkets.
as soon as they go past their sell by date they are thrown out, or even just to make room for new stock - just make sure it's all wrapped 8)

Well there's always the possibility that your dad is right and you should listen to him and do as he says. You really do sort of have a responsibility as a person to contribute to society, and sitting around all day doing "artistic" things isn't really that. Anyway you have like 24 hours in a day and you could spare at least 8 of them and do something with your life. I don't know if I am misinterpreting, but it really seems to me like he is mad because you are freeloading.
Also there is a very slim chance that a parent would actually throw his son out on the street. That is unless he is an incorrigible monster or . . . you are a pain in the butt and should go to school or work or something.
