Yes wrong forum because it's entry barrier is above the majority of gamingw's game rpg maker demo developers.

It imports .blends directly that is the best.

I'm actually surprised why isn't there anything about this here earlier!  I'm trying to learn it once I got done with my thesis since it looks like a pretty cool tool to make 3d games with :)

This engine sounds great, and might use this... even though my thesis will be a tech-demo.

If I was going to teach myself a 3D enginge to make indie games, I think it would be a better idea to use the Unreal Development Kit that was just released for free to indie developers. The Unreal engine does not only have better graphics, but is also a lot simple to use. Of course that doesn't mean it's easy, but Unity is not easy at all either.

UDK doesn't allow you to create a commercial game though. I think they take 25% from your profit or something.  Unity, on the other hand, allow you sell whatever you make. They only force you to buy pro version if you income from the product is more than $100,000 a year or something ( but who cares how much the pro cost since by that time you'll probably has more than enough to pay D: )

I've also read from the TIGs forum that UDK is generally more difficult to use and would be more suitable for the coder, while many artists/ designers seems to be able to handle Unity3D quite easily.

But of course, I haven't tried UDK so I can't say much. I've tried Unity though but it isn't that easy to start. I guess I have to give it more time, since this is also the case with Game Maker for me where when I first got it I have no idea how things work and what to do.

I've tried both, and would strongly disagree. But there you go. =)
But I didn't really try to apply to designers who would sell their creations for money. Very few indie develpers on this site are that talented anyway.

Unity hasn't been that hard for me, I made a little test project to get a moving camera going, some instance objects, and some flowing particles. I haven't used UDK so i don't know about the difference.

Anyway, my friend is an iphone app developer and he's got the iphone unity license so that's leaps ahead of the UDK... you can also make wii games with unity. either of those licenses are pretty expensive so it's not even really worth talking about for myself, but it is a neat feature.

Yeah, actually I'm having Unity3D as a course in school this semester. Looks like a pretty good engine, but I'm still getting used to it.
