david byrne freaking owns
(http://i45.tinypic.com/293hqa9.jpg)
david byrne: "i like wearing sunglasses" -david byrne
he's one of those dudes that gets cooler looking as they get older and looks cool in every single picture (david lynch is the best example of this)
he did talking heads (the best non-glam rock band of the 70s)
http://tinysong.com/9cs8
http://tinysong.com/8OOD
he worked with brian "brian eno owns" eno a lot and made my life in the bush of ghosts, which was the first album to use samples really well
http://tinysong.com/9lyi
he has a monthly radio thing where he plays songs he likes under a specific genre/theme
http://davidbyrne.com/radio/
h e has a journal where he writes stuff that he does or thinks and you can read it online
http://journal.davidbyrne.com/
he turned a building into a bigass instrument
he made this song with dirty projectors!!!!!!

watch out for that rhino david byrne!!!!
okay so talk about david byrne and talking heads and whatever else he does right here in this thread
-
yeah david byrne pretty much owns
-
i saw a dvd of a gig. stop making sense i think. it was awesome every song they brought another piece of the set on, coz at the start it was just david "i am the best" byrne play acoustic guitar and a tape machine and nothing else but then all the other guys (alot of them) and all the set and stuff came on it was awesome
-
ARE YOU SURE YOU HAVENT BEEN HERE BEFORE
steel once wrote an article on the talking heads and I feel like everyone here likes them. that probably isn't even true but talking heads was one of the best bands I.M.O so it should be. I don't know what the frick you're talking about "best non-glam rock band of the 70s" tho, seems pretty limiting
a good relatively unknown song by them is Lifetime Piling Up which you can find in that Grooveshark thing buttkiller posted.
-
david byrne
-
talking heads rule okay
-

glam rock is the best genre.
david byrne
agreed
-
they're a-ok though that might change since i haven't heard real albums from them yet. recommendations? glam's cool but i'm sure there's something else in 70's besides glam rock and talking heads.
dietcoke
holy shit that's really good!!

77, more songs about buildings and food, fear of music, and remain in light are their 4 really really good albums. remain in light is just this ridiculous album, get that first if you want to be immediately amazed. 77 through fear of music are all kind of the same format, they just sound like offbeat pop albums until you really understand the interlocking instrument rhythms and dumb shit like that and then they become holy shit amazing.
past remain in light kinda bores me but they have a few really good songs (burning down the house, naive melody, nothing but flowers) but i really don't think i've given it a chance.
they are definitely a band that grows on you.
-
what glam rock do you ""think"" is better than talking heads. also I don't think it necessarily takes effort to get what makes their songs good. personally I think it's pretty obvious and I doubt I would like them if you had to really root for it and also they don't need to grow on you to be likeable
anyway let's hunt for a good once in a lifetime video
-
thanks buttkiller. you are a good guy!
topic takeover though:
Dietcoke and Music: How I Rule.
joey (may i call you joey?), i think you listen to either the fall or fall of troy. which one!? i understood that this is essentially #1 dietcoke band. why do you like it, what's so good about them. gimme recommendations from them. also consider giving other good band recommendations! i need to understand what gets dietcoke's music approval, we can't continue like this pal. i'm afraid the day my album is published you'll roll in your grave. :(
-
dietcoke's favorite band is fall of troy.

the glam rock thing is kind of a joke because glam rock is kind of a joke but do i like t.rex and david bowie a lot. not trying to start a confrontation here ha. ha.
i appreciated what the talking heads sounded like when i first heard them yeah but only because the dude that recommended them to me was like LOOK OUT FOR THE HYPNOTIC INTERLOCKING GUITAR PATTERNS AND STIFF YET DANCEABLE RHYTHMS but they definitely did not really make that much of an impact on me for a while. i can't believe how bad that sentence is holy shit
-
I'm not being too serious and sometimes I forget it sounds confrontational. also I see what you mean I just thought it sounded a little too similar to what people were saying about that new Them Crooked Vultures action movie garbage
-
dietcoke's favorite band is fall of troy.
it could be fall out boy as well, i think he has mentioned that. the names are really similiar! we may never get to know...
enough about david byrne! it's to-to-to-to-to-topic takeover. i'm the boss of this topic.

also i didn't want to necropost in there but ahhaha that topic. TCV's album is really boring, elephants blow.
-
dietcoke showed me this 'the fall' video a long time ago
i haven't listened to anything else by them since but this song is really awesome
-

all i have to do is point out that you like to play the harp and i can prove anything that you say is dumb
-
"My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" was really awesome when I listened to it, and I knew a guy named Byrne was involved, but I had no idea he was in the Talking Heads!
-
its funy cause your'e all like im ramci look at me go at the harp
-
every song off of more songs about buildings and food rules
-
dietcoke showed me this 'the fall' video a long time ago

listen to bend sinister. it's the only album i have by them but it's really super great thanks!!!
every song off of more songs about buildings and food rules
they literally don't have a bad song from 77 to remain in light
-
thanks for the recommendations guys but still looking for dietcoke! topic needs more dietcoke!!
-
doppelganger is best fall of troy album. s/t close second. manipulator is meh, and in the unlikely event is not that gr8.
oh yeah phantom on the horizon (ghostship demo official release ep) is gr888888888888888
-
you know, i have been thinking about this... who really needs dietcoke? like who gives a shit about him? i got everything right *puts arm over smoothy oaklands shoulders glibly* here. come on smoothy, let's leave this dumb topic... you guys can have it *spins round around curvaceously*

I came in to post the Kermit The Frog video but yeah Talking Heads are great. My uncle gave me the Stop Making Sense dvd for like my sixteenth birthday and I ripped the soundtrack with Nero and listened to it on a crappy discman for the whole summer, ~GOOD TIMES~. Actually that's kinda stopped me from getting into their studio stuff as much since the mixing etc seems very anaemic and stiff after listening to the live versions. I'm probably missing the point and will have to do an ALBUM RETROSPECTIVE at some point though!
I do think '77 is a really underrated album though (actually I'm not sure if it is or not but in terms of the Talking Heads discography it seems to get dismissed as just boring new wave which I think is kinda unfair). It's not really as radical or new as their later worldmusic-influenced stuff but there's a kind of understated nervous sweetness to it that I really like. Like not in the sense of fucking quirkiness but it seemed like a really likeable sweet pop music that just happened to be kinda accidentally skewed and neurotic. I remember liking it a lot.
Also the best Fall albums are probably Hex Enduction Hour and Slates:
-
thanks for the recommendations guys but still looking for dietcoke! topic needs more dietcoke!!
Idk who fall of troy is but the fall is probably one of my favorite bands.
Hex enduction hour, middle class revolt, live at the witch trials, slates and infotainment scan are some good records by them
-

david bowie but its a close one.
-
fall of troy is a 3-piece modern day post-hardcore group
-
Oh ok, so I'll probably never listen to them ever thx
-
sorry to bring this topic top again but holy shit i genuively thought that you were deliberalery avoiding this topic Dietcoke.. i... i got all i need now...
also i'm fairly certain you aren't going to like my music, judging from what you have said earlier. uh particulary about nick drake elliott smith and jeff buckley HEH THE TRIO but it's going to be boring songwriter shit and i am kind of :( about it.
-
ramciiiiiiiiiiiiii
bump and necropost week old threads all you want it's better than not posting. also I would like to go on record and say bands like them crooked vultures are the superhero movies of music.
-
ahhahahaha. i love you pal.
-

I actually don't really mind any of those guys i just badmouth everything I can
-
part of liking something is being able to see what's not so great about it
i like a lot of really good music, but then I will also listen to some of the gayest shit ever(the knife, air, etc...) and i have absolutely no excuses for it
-
why the heck would you need an excuse to listen to music
-
the same reason you'd need an excuse for dressing up in women's clothes.
-
they feel good
-
Idk who fall of troy is but the fall is probably one of my favorite bands.
Hex enduction hour, middle class revolt, live at the witch trials, slates and infotainment scan are some good records by them
yes!!! hex enduction hour is excellent thus far! god recommendation dc.
-
Listen to live at the witch trials next. That one is probably my favorite.
mark e smith is the best frontman ever, srry byrne but smith owns a lil harder
-
my roommate just walked in while i was listening to life in the bush of ghosts. he thinks im crazy
i am listening to remain in light and Neu! latelyy......... need more music gw....... heelllppp...
-
here u go
-
dietcoke whats your fave can album
-
i got future days and tago mago
tago mago is pretty brilliant. future days is really good too but i havent given it as much listening
but maaaaan tago mago is somethin else
-
yeah tago mago is my favorite, also get soundtracks!!!!!!!!!!! (because it rules)
-
I don't think you can beat tago mago as a whole, but Ege Bamyasi and Future Days have their moments where I think they shine a little brighter
then there's soundtracks with Mother Sky which is 14 minutes of some of the best guitarin' and drummin' in any rock song ever over a 2 note bassline
the melody is in a constant state of falling apart, what a song
-
what dub narcotic should i get first
-
what dub narcotic should i get first
