I watched the Metallica Cunning Stunts DVD yesterday, its pretty much the worst thing ever. The vocals are horrible James can't hold a note and they ruin all their songs when they play them live etc

Music isn't just defined by conventional instruments and technical prowess. The term is broader than your moms shoulders.

Talent isn't just defined by melody either. Its a stupid conversation and your a stupid kid. You think technical prowess=TALENT but most of the thrash metal guys absolutely suck at song writing.

in high school a fat guy with mid length black hair and highlights said that he loves metal and rap should not be considered music, and that's what I think of whenever people talk about the genres of rap and metal and the conflict between them.

Sorry Mince Wobley, but drums are in fact a real musical instrument. Drums and cymbals do add to the melody the melody of music, whether played alongside another instrument or not.

There is a huge difference between sampling a computer beat than actually having the balls to play them on a real set. It's rare to see any hip hop "music" with a drummer who knows his shit.

If you start calling a drum a musical instrument (it's a PERCUSSION instrument not a musical instrument) then there is no limit to what can be called music. You could also call a horse a musical instrument because it farts.

Yes, pretty much that. And I'm not really into the growling stuff too much, or just plain power chords either. What I love about metal is the riffs, and I'll admit some 80s rap did use real guitars. If anything, I'd pardon that era for rap only.

any musician worth his salt will tell you that rhythm is more important than melody. Rhythm can exist without melody, but melody cannot exist without rhythm. Melody is the slave to rhythm.

you know i was having this discussion with a roommate of mine earlier this semester and he was all like "BON JOVI HAS WAY MORE EMOTION THAN RAP EVER DOES" and he was a ll like "cypress hill, mike shinoda, sage francis, and fatal wisdom sound exactly the same to me!"(i was just choosing random songs) and then he played some 80's music and it all sounded like....generic 80s music to me....???
i think this debate is impossible because no matter what one side is going to hear metal as yuck and one side is gonna hear rap as yuck and then some people are gonna listen to all music equally and they are truly the best of us (i would be that guy except i don't listen to country sorry guys :( )

idk but according to wikipedia the term also "eliminates 'Indians' from the present" which is true. calling them native americans kind of gives the impression of people who once lived here, but are no longer a problem. ie native american isn't necessarly a race while american indian is. this is probably the real reason some people are against that term, the genocide bit was just a bad inference on my part
