i wasn't wrong last night, there's a new whistling frequency in my right ear. it just disapeared for that night by then but now it's back and it doesn't seem to go away. for few hours the hiss had turned into a bleep and it won't go away. i'm not sure if it's bleep anymore but i don't care. it was lot easier at the time of initial shock because it was just this faint tinnitus in my right ear that i could hear when no noise is present. i can now barely even hear that frequency under that fucking whistle and HISS. god forbit it holy shit the hiss. i used to love hiss and noise and all that stuff but i fear i am going to hate it after this or will be incapable to hearing it due to feeling SEASICK. i think the hiss is even in my left ear but i can't fucking tell. i can't tell whether the noise is in my left or right ear anymore.
i suppose it eases when i focus on things but uh it's not nice witnessing how your hearing turns worse by a day FOR NO REASON AT ALL. worse yet is this change today because i played my guitar with an amp? are you kidding me? i didn't even play it loud and i didn't play it for a long time. are you going to strip my hearing from me just when i'm getting into composing and worse yet replace it with a permanent, present noise? that gets louder and worse every day? that i am going to be afraid of playing or listening to music forever in my life from now on? how could i enjoy singing like this, i have to forget a vocalist career?
i hate this. why did this happen to me, why won't it stop? and i thought i could be very well capable to make good music and/or album and be a good singer. my fucking life's goal was to make a good album, how am i going to do it like this? i don't want to go to work at monday jesus christ. am i going to lose my hearing because of my work or a fucking ear cancer or similiar? i don't have the time to tell and everything is slipping through my fingers. i am not the most happiest in the person but holy shit this is the new peak. i am gradually losing my will to live. i don't want to go to work. in fact, i am wearing a pair of ear plugs right now.
i don't know, it's 9:30 pm when i wrote this and i want to go to sleep. i kind of don't want to wake up in the morning.

You may just have fluid on your ear. Go to doctors and get it looked at.
-
how does this happen? you said something about work that I didn't understand. ear cancer no one has ear cancer. and are there any doctors you can talk to
-
Sorry to hear that.
-
You really need to see a doctor. These things happen to people. I don't really understand why you're so fatalistic about bad things happening to you, but you're always like this. The problem is that you're afraid to take any part in the direction your life takes. See a doctor.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labyrinthitis is what my dad had. He vomited everywhere and was hospitalised for ages.

plot so far: ten weeks ago i started working in academic hospital's kitchen as a nutrition worker because of civil service. basically working on meal belt and diswashing belt plus various of other jobs. other people only wear ear plugs during the dishwashing belt and when washing big kitchen ware, i wear the all the time nowdays. basically four weeks after starting working a tinnitus appeared to my right ear and i freaked out. i never have tinnitus. i went to the company nurse which did some tests and said that there is some ear damage in my right ear so if i'm not careful it can get worse. after that she handled some papers about WATCH YOUR HEARING!!! and sent me away. days or a week later i am at the company's doctor and when i explain her about my situation she says that the nurse hadn't marked anything about this in the papers. oddly enough she keeps beating this through the meeting so uh basically she did nothing apart from just warning to take care of my hearing and stop worrying over it too much.
the tinnitus became permanent and since then i have been worrying every day whether things will go worse. one night the tinnitus got really bad so i couldn't get sleep. week ago this hiss appeared from nowhere when i was trying to sleep at sunday. it have become permanent too. sometimes it changes between being a hiss and being a bleep, propably due to how much i pay attention to it. i hope it won't turn into a bleep permanently.
two or three days ago when i was sleeping i spotted a new odd ring in my right ear and i heard it last night and a hour ago when i put on my ear plugs so i am going to assume that it may become permanent as well at some point.
i can even barely hear the initial tinnitus in my right ear because of this fucking hiss/bleep. i'm not sure at what ear this hiss even rings and i am sort of worried or becoming more convinced that it's both ears.

aaaaa that's a low blow?!? anyways Wednesday i went to the ear doctor of a private company and uh it didn't progress much there (basically a lecture of how ears work and few tests and that's it) and he asked me to deliver the uh, spectrum chart? of my right ear and it's going to be hard to get it, i hope the nurse had saved it. it's expensive but considering new problems are appearing i don't think i have a choice.
the thing is that the chart he is asking for was done ages ago and my situation with my ear has changed a lot since then! I am going to deliver it if i can since it's just the first appointment but i am frustrated. I want to figure out what is causing these problems.
-
that is terrifying and i would probably be flipping the fuck out. after typing that reply i realized how unhelpful it is but YOU HAVE MY SYMPATHIES
-
all i can say is hopefully its not permanent. i remember i had tinnitus appear in my right ear in junior high and it lasted about 3 days and after telling my mom she said "oh well in some people it doesn't go away" I remember that really freaking me out at the time i didn't think she believed me. anyway that don't really add much to your situation but as i said hopefully it is not permanent and some if not all of the bleeping/tinnitus goes away. i hope it does go away because i would lose my shit freaking out. i used to be afraid of going to bed and waking up BLIND or DEAF.
-
dude, that really sucks. like i don't know anything about the subject too much which is maybe bad because i'm planning on a career in medicine in the future but i don't know what else to tell you. but like yeah as a fellow musician i know how like losing your hearing is just like the worst of the worst and like, i really feel bad man!
-
I've had tinnitus on both ears a few years now. It was hard to sleep in the beginning but once you get used to the noise you kind of filter it out. You have to. Stress and not feeling well mentally makes it alot worse. Just be careful not to make it worse - avoid high noises.
-
fuuuuuuck now im scared of losing my hearing, if i listen real hard to nothing i can hear a high pitched sound but i think that's normal? aaaaaaeeea
-
you have to wear earplugs while washing dishes? idk about finland but if this was caused by something the govt made you do, you could probably be getting them to pay for everything
ears are really complex. I hate ears.
-
I've always had tinnitus since I've been a child yet the range of frequencies I can hear is very very large and better than most people. You'll get used to the hissing eventually when it comes to sleeping btw. I know my ears have gotten worse over the years because of concerts and drumming (even though I wear ear plugs + isolation headphones... I'm still playing at least 3h-4h a day so). Just go take some tests and freaking out over it won't bring you much so relax.
Also, remember that Beethoven was deaf. Many other musicians have horrible tinnitus like Phil Collins and The Edge. I wouldn't be surprised if Nicko McBrain has it too. The drummer from Amebix had it really bad too.
-
i don't think it's too encouraging to say he could be like phil collins or the edge
-
i don't think it's too encouraging to say he could be like phil collins or the edge
I'm not saying he could be like them, they've had that tinnitus because of all their performances without proper protection for many many years.
-
i am phil collins

my advice is don't look at information about anything related to ears on the internet. it's good to be informed but it seems at this point you're as informed as you'll be until you hear back from the doctor. reading more things on webmd or wiki is just going to scare you and make you more nervous. if you noticed, reading the symptoms of a disease online is like reading a horoscope. just don't do it.
i also had a strong ringing in my ears for several days. it went away and then a week or so later i got a sinus infection. maybe related. but everything's alright now.
i hope this goes away though, it's terrifying and annoying.
-
if you're feeling seasick it's affecting your inner ear, unfortunately earplugs in a dishwashing environment would create perfect conditions for all sorts of ear nasties.
also relevent and easy for anyone experiencing tinnitus (it's not supported too well but it's cheap and easy)

Good luck.
-
i have high ear frequency issues when i go to a club, or drink to get fucked then have a hangover and my ears are like pingggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
then a day later it goes away./ or sometimes im really high out of my mind as in on marijuana influence a LOT OF fucking marijuana influence like a lot and i hear pingggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
and then i hear the sound of a camel buzzing into my ear as in the extent of morality when one witnesses a death. but usually i hear a pinggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg when i have a lot of wax in my ears.
-
you just have an earwax buildup! get a qtip and ram it in there. i mean really ram it around as hard as you can. don't mind the bleeding or pain that's just the ear wax release.
-
are you going to strip my hearing from me just when i'm getting into composing and worse yet replace it with a permanent, present noise?
Beethoven was deaf :)
fuck someone already posted that...
Anyways, I hope it's nothing serious. Go get it checked out!

No he wasn't he only got deaf a few years before he died and at the same time his music started to deteriorate
-
if im in a silent room, i usually hear tinnitus. if i'm drunk it's almost deafening. i usually need music or a tv on to sleep comfortably.
-
Go see an ear specialist if you can afford it. If you're going to a company doctor they might bullshit you a little bit if they don't consider it a serious condition.
Don't listen to music too loudly, make sure you wear earplugs if you work around really loud noises, etc... Don't stress yourself out over it either, what you're going through sounds absolutely horrid but if you keep breaking down over it its not going to get any better.
Like someone said if you're feeling "seasick" its probably something with your inner ear and your (equalibrium? is that what its called?) being off. I don't know too much about hearing loss and tinnitus but from what I understand in order to go deaf you've got have a malfunctioning/broken ear drum and if you haven't been constantly blasting music into your ears or working around heavy machinery then you should be fine. Unless of course its some kind of wack medical condition which I've never heard of happening in adulthood but then again what do I know.
No he wasn't he only got deaf a few years before he died and at the same time his music started to deteriorate
calling bullshit on this. He lost his hearing during childhood from being ruthlessly beaten by his father.
-
I hate tonsils too. bet you didn't know tonsils have deep caverns where bacteria-ridden mucus or tiny bits of food can get trapped and turn into gross pearls that can cause bad breath and if they get large enough they can cause ear pain among other things. the human body is awful and living is hell.
-
A few months ago I lost all hearing in my right ear for about 3weeks, it sorted it self out but to this day I still don't know why it happened. So don't automatically think the worst just yet because this shit does happens to others for what ever reason. You can either, wait it out like I did or see a professional for an answer.
-
I lose hearing in my right ear about once a year for a few weeks. Or I used to. It was because I was using those in-ear earphones, and even though I was cleaning my ears the wax still got compounded. Since I stopped using them the problems have disappeared.
I have however had a cough for the last 5 years. Nobody can figure out why, if it's an allergic reaction or whatever. My lungs look fine. And since I got a bad cold a few weeks ago it's been 100% worse and sounds like a really awful smoker's cough, and I'm worried it's permanent now too. I'm going to the doctor's tomorrow but I'm worried they'll just say the old "idk lol" that they normally do :(. But yeah, I'm still going.
Sorry to hear about your ear, I hope you get it fixed.
-
dornt worry
i have terrib;e eyesight and cant even see my response tp you
haave a good night, i love you/ i hope you like boners
the end.
-
i have terrible eyesight too but that's nowhere near as bad
-
as terribe hearing
-
Sorry to hear that.
Heh

Wow. I just looked up tinnitus, and all the while with a ringing in my left ear, like this high-pitched constant squeaking or tuning fork. After the artillery cannons, truck driving, and now aircraft engines / baggage belt systems blasting sound at me all my working life---no wonder. Shit, I have tinnitus! :( Always just thought it was a ringing for some dumb reason, never bothering to think it was this serious. :/ shit.
-
A lot of people have it. My mom has it worse than me. Mine doesn't bother me at all and it comes and goes. Like if I'm not paying attention to it it's like it's not even there.
-
supposedly that ringing you hear after exposure to loud noises for a period of time are the cells capable of recieving that sound in your ears dying. And once those cells or whatever die you're incable of hearing that particular pitch.
-

NO you idiot! Get a wax removal kit Duh!

Did you get that from children of men or is it a medical fact?

delete that post immediately mince.
-
I actually don't know what either of you are talking about and I read that in a safety briefing thing on hearing protection a month or two ago, so fuck the both of you.
-
I'm sorry its just I sat through like an hour of my chief mate babbling on about this stupid shit and its annoying that anyone would think I got that from a movie.
really you couldn't imagine how incredibly boring it is
I have to crack jokes every few minutes during these "safety meetings" in order to stay awake
-
it's ok, that's a lot funnier than just you doing it on your own (also it's not true?)
-
harry manback ( i forget his recent name right now) already said it but you should try an ear doctor or at very least a doctor aside from the company's pick. if you are wearing earplugs everyday, your workplace is aware of the risks and its to be expected their doctor will downplay your problems.
in my job it is a similar situation except with arthritis and eventual wrist surgery (also very bad for musicians)
-
hows your ear ramci is it better.
I sneezed and punctured my right eardrum yesterday. what did I just tell you guys?? ears are the worst. they need to invent new ears and perform tonsillectomies on all newborn babies.
-
You must be one hell of a sneezer. That's something I can appreciate. How's your hearing with a punctured drum?
-
it's muffled. I guess the puncture isn't that bad because some people completely lose their hearing in that ear apparently
it was probably because I have really bad sinuses too and I hate them but afaik they can't remove your sinuses. I need a new head, this head's shot
-
It'll heal fine overtime earl, it is fucking horrible though. I had the worst time when I punctured my ear drum. Just keep it out of water.
-
I didn't read the thread but I've been having the same fucking problem lately. At work I'll be talking to somebody and half the time I'm going WHAT? WHAT? To the point where it's kinda known that I'm half deaf or something. And randomly my ears pop and I hear ringing or some fucked up noise. I thought it was because either I get really congested and have trouble blowing my nose or I listen to music full blast in my headphones every day. Maybe combination of the two..
-

the only thing i get from movies is boners
-
i started smoking to become impotent, i was getting waaay to many boners

This happens. I've got some very mild tinnitus which I don't notice most of the time, but every once in a while this happens. I think it's pretty common, but don't take my word for it. But if you've got a problem with your hearing seriously drop the volume on the headphones. They can be real ear killers, because on high volumes, it doesn't sound as loud as it is. People often listen to music on headphones or plugs on such levels that if someone turned the speakers equally loud they would probably cover their ears and try to shout to turn it down. I don't even get the same kick out of listening to music really loud on headphones as I get on speakers, that 'surrounded by music' feeling where you literally feel the bass in your guts. Often when I listen on 'phones I feel like turning it up but notice that it doesn't really do anything.
-
I don't think it helps that I have the kind where you stick em right inside your earholes to amplify the bass or whatever.
-
aaaa holy shit earl?!? i really hate ears ~~earl & ramci. basically a lot of good things have happened since (for example changing the job from hospital's kitchen to hospital ARCHIVES haha) but basically no heal to hearing. in fact i think the vhs flicker noise have become something that is present thorough the day though maybe i have slept too little? nah i'm fairly certain i haven't had this before. i try lot of different types of witchcraft though but i don't think they will work. i am trying this medicine that should boost the blood circulation in ears (used to meniere's (sp? (faaaart.)) disease, has relatively little side effects so why not). may try to fix my bite. went to a good massage today to see if that helps but nope, only discovered some scoliosis. apparently only the capitol city has thec over-pressure oxygen chamber treatment, that's pretty expensive. haven't tried any bother medicines yet apart for that one medicine. i guass you can get permanent damage for waiting for almost two months before getting (or rather DISCOVERING  ) help...
it's been basically about getting used to it and hoping that it won't get worse quickly. trying to get back into normal life.
also Buttkiller you do not have tinnitus, i repeat, you do not have tinnitus so don't worry about it. just listen to music from speakers with medium volume and the risk should be little. also AVOID HIGH-VOLUME JOBS LIKE DISEASE!!! learn to wear earplugs if you have to tolerate high volumes.
-

yeah i don't really want to do this anymore. i try to avoid playing headphones if i can or play them with low volume. also jesus christ if you listen to headphones when in a bus, train or other medium/high-volume environment nobody should ever do this ever but you see this happen all the time. it's ridicilous how little it is known about ear damage and tinnitus.
-
(for example changing the job from hospital's kitchen to hospital ARCHIVES haha)
Hey that's good news, that kitchen job sounded awful. Maybe this will bring back "golden ears" ramci???
-
it was a good move. i really like to not have my ears sound like vhs white noise after a work day + good, set worktimes and relaxed/good atmosphere. not too stingy about getting into work precisely in time since we use clock cards.
-
i never listen to anything loud, i never saw the apppeal. also why aren't my shift keys working now

Hey this sounds great! You started today?
