This is a short film made by just one guy in his spare time. There's no plot, it's just a collection of REALLY HIGH FIDELITY rendered scenes, mostly of empty buildings and things. It's just very pretty and looks almost indistinguishable from reality. (Granted, this is easier since it's just buildings and not people, but it's still impressive for one guy.)
I personally like it a lot because I have to do lots of rendering for classes and I can see the sheer amount of work that the guy put into it. The craft, I guess. If you're into that sort of thing you should give it a watch.

this is really cool, thanks for posting it. I don't know anything about
filming rendering but a lot of this serves as really great architectural photography.
as an aside the more I see of the guggenheim bilbao the more I warm up to it. I wonder what I'd think if I'd actually see it in person
edit: I typed this as i was watching. assuming it was supposed to be a rendering of the guggenheim bilbao

it's a great video.

you do 3d stuff? please post them in graphic arts. we need some more 3d things over there! i'll also give you crits.
anyway, this video is insane, the lighting is just so good. really really great work.

I will at some point, but it's mostly work that I have to do for my arch studio classes and is nothing special. But if I make something cool this semester, I'll post up some things. (PROCESS THREAD YESSSSS)
Also hahaha earlchip I see you freudian slipped architectural PHOTOGRAPHY. it really does look like it was filmed / pictures taken with a camera, doesn't it! It's crazy.
also yeah i think it is the Bilbao, it's a Frank Gehry work for sure, but I'm not certain which one it is. I'm not that big of a Gehry fan - I mean, I get why he's considered great and I can respect his work, but I'm just not very interested in it. His stuff is too in-your-face, I like more subtle stuff.
Anyway.

you're an architecture student?? that's cool I didn't think there were any others. we sorta had an architecture thread in american magic but of course that forum was only open to Premium Members
I kind of dislike gehry's stuff as a whole but some of his individual buildings are pretty neat

dude, thats pretty fucking incredible.

pretty impressive rendering, especially for one guy. Do we know how long it took him to render and what computer power he used?
-
Yeah, my brother showed me this like two weeks ago. Absolutely amazing. A LITTLE too much "depth of field changing" in the first half, but absolutely amazing.
-
I emailed this to my dad and he said this guy in his office showed it to him yesterday. HE IS ALWAYS ONE DAY AHEAD OF ME.
One day I will beat him.
-
yeah it was on the vimeo picks like 2 weeks ago. jeeezz ed.
-
i think it took him almost a year? i don't recall where i read that but that's what i remember.
yeah i actually was bothered by the constant depth of field changing too. the main reason he used it is to push the impression that it's really "realistic" (without depth of field it wouldn't have looked real at all) but yeah, at one point in the video he does it every 2 seconds and it's annoying.
also earlchip are you an architecture student??? what is your pretentiousness level from 1 to 10
don't get me wrong, i think a lot of gehry's buildings look cool, but i feel like that's most of the appeal. a spectacle. he doesn't take people or environmental uses into account unlike say, frank lloyd wright.

5 and no I'm LA with background in everything.

twas good but....meh
of course I don't have a background in any of this sort of stuff (took photography? in highschool but thats it), it was cool and all but I dunno....my patience level got the best of me
