Skip this if you don't want to read:
Here's an example: My brother was telling me about how he read this Japanese story of a little girl that had the ability to turn whatever she wanted into meat at will. I think the little girl was actually a devil or something but her outer appearance was that of a normal little girl except for like horns or something (some really obvious dis-figuration that would give away she wasn't a normal little girl). The little girl had no family and became attached to this person who was blind. She started to live with the blind person, and the blind person assumed the girl was a normal girl, the blind person owned some pets but they went missing, apparently the girl had been turning the pets into meat and ate them, she also turned the mailman into meat and consumed him too. Eventually the story ends something like the girl turning the house into meat and consuming it. That's not the exact story but this story was just really interesting and bizarre.
here's another example of something really interesting I enjoyed: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/524064 <-Newgrounds link -About pigs with addictions
I want to enjoy a really good story/movie/game with a really bizarre story line or some sort of strange twist similar to the meat girl story. Anyone got any recommendations? I'm not really interested in like extremely bizarre sexual materials though, just about anything else is cool though.
Oh and I don't know if anyone remembers these but I think it was on cartoon network like really late at night, they would play these really bizarre Canadian cartoons, I think it was called O' Canada, This is one of the cartoons that was played: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdxucpPq6Lc It's about a scientist that creates teleportation fridges, but they didn't actually teleport anything-instead they would clone the object/person from fridge #1 to fridge #2 and destroy the original in fridge #1.

Hate to steal your topic but if anyone has any media related to astral traveling and spiritual stuff I'd be interested as well.
stuff like THIS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Castaneda

Try Tim Burton.
-
cat sou (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mH5sacgeY5Q)p
its anime
-
Phillip k. Dick wrote pretty bizzare stuff (world where everyone's 'growing' backwards, guys getting trapped inside dead people's minds etc).
There's probably more i can come up with but i gotta go back to work now >_>

it'll help if you look for astral projection and everything i've come across is more or less a meditation trick

I downloaded it yesterday and haven't gotten a chance to play it yet but Space Spy (http://quitesoulless.com/spacespy.htm) by Vasily Zotov looks really great and interesting. It's apparantly a kind of allegory for his experiences in the US immigration system or maybe not because from an interview I read he's either kind of crazy or completely made up.
Supposedly it's almost unplayable but really who cares.
EDIT: he has another game called Quite Soulless that also looks amazing

Fellini's Satyricon is a must-see. Another favorite of mine is Zazie dans le metro, which you should really watch in French (some of the jokes don't really translate very well) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00d_XAvG190
-
There was a german romantic writer called Ernst Theodore Hoffmann who you would probably like a lot, you can read his short story 'The Sandman' here http://www.fln.vcu.edu/hoffmann/sand_e.html. It's pretty good.
-
Why would she turn the pets and mailman into meat? Pets and mailmen are meat

there is a japanese film called the taste of tea that is pretty surreal but also incredibly entertaining. it's just a collection of moments in the lives of this family in japan, but lots of bizarre things happen during it. like, for example, the little girl in the family believes that there's this gigantic doppleganger of herself following her around, and she is confident that if she can swing backwards over this bar near their house she can get rid of it. lots of other things happen, and the ending is the absolute most surreal part, but it's a really really cool movie.
i originally bought it because i was looking through dvds and saw the cover of it, where a little boy has a tiny train coming out of his forehead. how could i possibly not buy this?

I don't necessarily have any real recommendation as of late, but as a general rule I would recommend frequenting thrift stores and independent book stores for strange old relics. Recently I found Bram Stoker's Dracula and George Carlin's Last Words. :D
Also I just remembered this but there was a pretty cool little flash adventure game called Gretel and Hansel (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/515322) on newgrounds recently. Good to waste maybe 30 minutes at work sometime.
-
I don't know anything about anime and whether you like it but I'm sure there is some really fucked up ones. (Whether or not they are 'good' is probably another story)
-
the cremaster cycle, el topo, the holy mountain
the cremaster cycle will barely make any sense at all, especially if you're not american. the other two have some cool imagery and are generally bizarre
-
Some of the stuff you guys are recommending look really interesting, going to check them out after I get back from work. The Cat soup anime and that japanese movie look really good, and that LSD PSX game looks kinda interesting but really pointless from the wikipedia article of the game. Those PC games look cool, probably will give them a try although sometimes they look confusing as hell.

I played that and really liked it

I watch a lot of anime, finding really good fucked up ones is kinda hard.
Why would she turn the pets and mailman into meat? Pets and mailmen are meat
You're right, I thought that too when my brother was telling me about it but I pictured her turning them into like ground up meat.

the anime Gantz is really bizarre. It's 26 episodes and its a bit different from the general base of animes out there. there are a lot of violent scenes as well as some nudity/sex. Watch at your own risk and don't expect happy thoughts. It leaves you with the expression, ''wtf?''. Nonetheless I liked it :D

i've not seen the cremaster cycle or holy mountain (been wanting to see holy mountain tho) but i definitely second el topo, that is a fantastic movie

This is a really good show, but I'd say the bizarre factor is just above par as far as anime is concerned.
Wise Blood is a pretty bizarre novel now that I think of it.

read junji ito comics. don't be turned off by the naruto theme of the website the comics have nothing to do with that

where is the spiral one that one's really good.

If you've never watched Angel's Egg... well, I dunno. I consider it bizarre, but maybe that's just me. I also didn't like it, but apparently some people did so maybe you will, too? (Anime Recommendation Database says you might like these (http://www.anime-planet.com/anime/angels-egg) things as well.)
The manga about the spirals (someone mentioned that?) is Uzumaki (http://www.anime-planet.com/manga/uzumaki), I believe (no relation to Naruto, of course). I've never read it, but I've heard it was pretty trippy, very bizarre, and somewhat nightmare-fuelish. You could probably find it at Onemanga.com or something.
Also maybe 20th Century Boys, or if you don't mind a mildly shounen flavor (and some graphic stuff!) perhaps MPD Psycho. And Akira, if you haven't seen that. Tends toward pretty crazy in the last ten minutes or so. I'm probably just mentioning that last one because we had to watch it as part of my class this week (on anime auteurs, haha).
-
what about mindgame
except i'm not sure if that is classified so much as being bizarre. it is a good movie though
-
it's definitely somethin different and some parts are kinda bizarre. not bizarre like some of satoshi kon's works tho (which I don't think are as good)

This is one of the most bizarre, and unsettling things I have ever seen.

Also, I know it's kind of "MAIN STREAM" but the only Anime I really like is Paranoia Agent. It's pretty nuts.

did I mention that was one of the favorites off of Aaron Funk's youtube channel
I dunno if I'd consider his stuff bizarre enough for this topic but he did like one slow song ever and it still creeps me out
Edit: Btw that space spy game looks pretty great. Really it doesn't seem far off from early prerendered games I've seen... I could almost imagine somebody making the whole thing up and just using that early prerendered PC game aesthetic

was everything for 3DO awesome or what

Just watched that Quite Soulless video, now I really really want to play it.
There's an old PC game that I have yet to find a copy or download of anywhere called Bad Mojo. It's a point and click game that's very loosely based (I guess INSPIRED is more accurate) on the Metamorphosis (just remembered that Kafka has already come up in this topic!). So yes, you're playing as a cockroach. It seems like it would be pretty fun too.
edit: woah nm apparently they've rereleased it and you can download it here! (http://www.gotgameentertainment.com/badmojo/index.html)
except $20 is incredibly steep but maybe this at least means there'll be a torrent now
also apparently it's been rereleased for quite a while now so idk why i couldn't find a torrent in the past w/e i found one now
-
Try Peter Greenaway's The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover
-
Also, I know it's kind of "MAIN STREAM" but the only Anime I really like is Paranoia Agent. It's pretty nuts.
It's directed by Satoshi Kon, who also does some other strange works that you might be interested in. Paprika and maybe Perfect Blue (haven't seen it, but heard it's good). Actually, certain TvTropes (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MindScrew) might help you out in your search. I say "might" because you never know what you might find with TvTropes.
Also maybe not nearly bizarre enough for this topic, but I Heart Huckabees was pretty what-the-fuck at some moments.

I watched El Topo with some friends today. Was it about christianity and his childhood?!
I really had trouble getting what it was about >_>
I've only watched the first part of Cremaster and got convinced that artsie movies about
oppressed sexuality suck (at least that's what I thought it was about).
Most french movies I've seen are pretty bizzare, but really good at the same time (Delicatessen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZPykJJ2l_g&feature=fvst), La Moustache (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfURXKUwbFA), Children of the Lost City (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNYG9cXTSds), to name a few).¨
Oh and Naked Lunch. Watch it!

Pretty interesting interview. The videos and images from his game struck me as the visual equivalent of a word salad, so I wasn't extremely surprised when schizophrenia was mentioned.

Thank you so much for telling me about this movie! I just finished watching it and it left me with such a good feeling. It was definitely bizarre at some points. The pacing of the film was very slow but every single moment of it was thoroughly enjoying. I actually laughed out loud at certain points. I had a smile all throughout the film. Such an awesome movie.

Or try playing Segare Ijiri, which is an actual game for PSX (gameplay starts at 1:30)

That looks like fun. How do you know what you're doing?

I'm not sure if it's weirder with or without context supposedly it's a video made by an erm 'bear'-type guy who happens to love IDM (and large dudes). I'm trying to figure out whether it would be more awesome if it were a real or joke account

I'm not sure what you mean by "strange/bizarre" or whatever, that's kind of vague, but one of my favorite movies that is also one of the weirdest is Brazil (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088846/). It's like a cross between "1984" and Monty Python (not surprising considering it was co-written and directed by Terry Gilliam.) It's an awesome movie, check it out.
(http://pub.gamingw.net/23474/poster.jpg) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088846/)
Also, Lost Highway (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116922/) or anything else by David Lynch. I'm not really a David Lynch fan, but bizzarro, surreal filmmaking is his trademark.
(http://pub.gamingw.net/23474/lost-highway.jpg) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116922/)
Edit: also heartily seconding Kafka. Seriously, read Kafka. READ IT.

Brazil is one of my favorites, too.

Don't know if anyone mentioned this already, but probably not.
