Title: Let's discuss fighting games.
Post by: UPRC on February 08, 2010, 01:21:39 pm
I'm not sure what the fighting community is like at GW anymore and haven't really been since the Saikyo Dojo was removed a while ago. So that's why I'm making this topic. Who here has access to some fighters (PC or console) and is interested in some friendly matches?

BlazBlue, Street Fighter 4, and Tekken 6 seem to be the most popular at the moment. I have all three along with Virtua Fighter 5 (which I detest) and Soul Calibur 4, and Battle Fantasia (ugh...) all for the PS3.

Is anyone else into fighters on the PS3? PC would be fine too with Kawaks or whatever, but the novelty of playing arcade fighters on the PC wore off a while ago for me.

As far as my interests are concerned, Tekken 6 is the only fighter I'm probably not rusty at, since I play it for a bit every 2-3 days, so I'd be down for that if anyone's interested.

I have access to everything on PC.

I don't play BlazBlue or Tekken, though.

I want somebody to run some Jojo's Bizarre Adventure with, and 3s.

Edit:

I will also be down to play random fighters online. I am pretty competent in most fighting games, at least I think so.

Feel free to add me on PSN, not on often nowadays but if I get invites I'm usually up for a few matches of SF4 or T6. Maybe SC4 if I go out and buy it again, sold it when the community here in Ottawa died out and online made me rage too hard :/

Edit: o rite, psn tag is rtsdNIGHTMARE

I've been thinking of picking up blazblue but aren't they coming out with another version? Also how is Battle Fantasia?

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift is only available in arcades in Japan and no console release date has been given at all.

Battle Fantasia.. I don't know. It plays a bit like BlazBlue or Guilty Gear (since it is by Arc System Works), but it's much slower paced and.. I don't know, kind of bland overall. It's not very interesting, at least to me.

I have Blazblue and I like it, although I prefer playing Continuum Shift on PC (the arcade has been emulated perfectly, granted you have a capable pc)

I also have tekken 6 but its been so long since I played it I practically forgot everything with my dudes so no tekken for me

I play SF4 on PC but I kinda suck. Still willing to play anyone. My Games for Windows LIVE name is the exact same as my forum name.

I've been tempted to get Street Fighter 4 on my PC, but it's still $40 on Steam... And with Super Street Fighter 4 just around the corner.....

Supposedly Rose is going to be much better, which is great news since I used her most. Can't wait for that.

battle fantasia is excellent imho. no one believes me, but there's actually a lot of fun and depth to it! unfortunately the netcode is not very good

it also reminds me of jewpuncher gameplay wise

To my knowledge, SSF4 isn't getting a PC release at all.

To my knowledge, SSF4 isn't getting a PC release at all.
That's fine, since I'll be getting it for the PS3.

The reason why I'm reluctant to get the original Street Fighter 4 for PC is because I will be picking up Super Street Fighter 4 when it's out in a few months, and really, spending $60 on the original, $40 on the PC port, and then whatever on an upgraded version would be overkill for me. Street Fighter 4 is good, but not good enough to have justified spending $150 in total or so.

I'd never be able to play Street Fighter 4 in an arcade here. I can only think of one arcade anywhere even remotely close to me, and I would be VERY surprised if they even have Street Fighter 3.

I haven't played in an arcade since, I don't know, whenever Mortal Kombat 2 came out.

I had a Gameworks in Arizona that I went to for SF4, 3s, BB, and T6.

There was a Golfland that had BB, and a little amusement park called Castles & Coasters with T6: BR

Arcade Infinity and Denjin in California were only 5 hours away, so I would travel to them on some weekends.

everyone knows i'm down for some games.

i'll play just about anything on ggpo.  As for console I use a 360.  I got vf5, sf4, blazblue, kofxii, t6, soul calibur 4, although I won't play the latter two online because they are just unbearable online.

I didn't even realise this had been done. Thanks for the heads up. Gonna download at my friends later as my 3G connection isn't up to large file downloads. Unfortunatly that means I won't be playing online with my connection either :( n/mind. Unless you consider Worms 3D to be a fighting game...

Dudley, Ibuki, and Makoto are now confirmed for SSF4 for those who are unaware. One more character to be revealed, and heavy speculation predicts it to be a new Middle Eastern grappler type named Hakan.

Yeah, these three characters will be a huge selling point. Of the three, Ibuki was the only one I really enjoyed in SF3, but that's more than enough for me considering how many new characters SSF4 is receiving.

Yeah, I played Ibuki the most in SF3, and she was the one I wanted added to SF4 the most.

oh man

it's gonna suck learning all the matchups again, not just the old ones but the new ones too. and with ssf4 being selected as the default for evo this year (which i'll be going to!), many of the current players will probably get caught off guard and lose to things they're not really familiar with

like, there's so much content in this game. it's pretty amazing when i think about it

35 characters, hell yes. This is a very large roster for a Street Fighter game.

That's a fantastic roster, and there's a character there for everybody. SSF4 should be easy for anyone to pick up and have fun playing.

but honestly all things to put it on and they put it on the ipod. the psp would be 10x better or even the wii just because of controls. I mean I'd find it awkward to mash imaginary buttons on a touch screen...

I was going to get SFIV but decided to hold out until the new version comes out.

On a different note, I suppose this may interest some of you

It's a MUGEN project called "Card Saga Wars" and seems very promising.
You can get a little more details at pixel prospector (http://www.pixelprospector.com/indev/2009/07/card-sagas-wars/) which is where I read about it in the first place.

I think I read somewhere that they plan on using a lot of them as backdrops and assist attack characters since it would require a ton more work to make all of them into playable characters. I'd say 36 is more than enough though, especially since the characters in the clips seem to have a fairly impressive move set. Only thing that bothers me a bit is how little damage the moves seem to do, making each round a little too long for my taste. Might be adjustable though so it may end up not being an issue, but its just a guess.

Yeah, that's a pain in the ass. Really the only "good" way to play with someone is to get two gamepads and sit at the computer with a friend, but who wants to do that?

Also, Hakan

Prototype =/= (https://legacy.gamingw.net/etc/www.gamingw.net/forums/Themes/gamingw/images/post/fight.gif)

Also I gave up trying to main the new characters in SSF4 and instead have settled on Zangief, so I only messed with slightly in SF4. He's quite fun!

Blame the guy that brought up SSB in a fighting games topic.

I'm not saying that SSB doesn't qualify for this topic, but if someone is defending themselves mentioning a non-fighting game in a fight game topic is obviously going to use this excuse: "Well, when I saw those people talking about Super Smash Bros, I momentarily forgot that this topic is exclusive to fighting games. Since I am always forgetting how Super Smash Bros technically qualifies as a fighting game, I see someone else mention it, and cannot help but assume that this topic is open for discussion of any game genre I may happen to be playing."

no??????

I am going to pick up SSF4 sometime in the near future, but dudes is it an addon or a standalone game?  Because I have SF4 for the 360 but would kinda rather have SSF4 for the PS3 because until I can afford a fight stick I'm gonna be a lot more comfortable using the PS3 controller than the 360 one.
