To prevent Constance McMillen from bringing another girl as her prom date, her school district canceled the prom.l canceled the prom. When a judge ruled that the couple could not be barred, the district offered a private, parent-sponsored event, but duped McMillen and others into going to a separate country-club event while the other students allegedly had their prom at a , secret location.

aside from being a really awkwardly worded way of describing the events that take place in the story, I don't see why this should part of that topic, considering that is a current news item, whereas most of the material in that topic is about things that aren't particularly news, but rather are for the purposes of learning and informing about things that are related to the news, but are not necessarily news themselves. That being said, even if this topic were to get locked, I really hope that that topic doesn't become a catch-all for any articles ever, because I feel like it would eventually just turn in to (if it hasn't already) into the sort of thing that is a collection of links that nobody other than the OP is going to read.

You know, I know quite a few girls who brought other girls as "dates" to my prom. None of it was lesbianic(is that a word? I don't think so. It also sounds offensive. Sorry!) but rather they couldn't find any other dates/were best friends.
I keep getting more and more evidence pointing towards the fact that my high school was perhaps the best high school in America

but yeah, an established non-lesbian same-sex date is almost universally considered Not A Problem except probably in the most religious right places. the same cannot be said for non-gay male-male prom dates, you gotta take a female friend or go alone
I took a girl who was sorta friends with my sister (they actually hated each other) because she didn't have a date but she ended up ditching me and hanging on the phone with her ex. what a jerk!! actually it doesn't matter I didn't even care, I just talked to my pal most of the time. who is really mature enough to have a serious prom anyway
edit: oh wait my friend took her girlfriend to prom I'm pretty sure. she said she was bi tho so maybe that doesn't count

I didn't have a prom at my school- instead one of the girls who used to be in my class invited me to Her prom after she switched schools. had a horrible crush on her but she was very shy. I ended up professing my love to her (awkward). The prom came to a screeching halt when the smoke machine set off the fire alarms and the Fire Dept came. Ah, good times...
Anyway, back on topic- the school district in Mississippi was definitely wrong. I wonder if one of the local organizations here would be wiling to fly her down for Capital Queer Prom to show their support. Normally that's for older people who didn't;t have the opportunity to take a same-sex date back n HS, but it might be good to show her shes welcome here NOW.

After a year, San Francisco called me home again. I missed it. High rents had driven all my friends out of the city to the suburbs so I made myself a reservation at a motel and drove there in a rented car.

As it happens, wow cd keys his new girlfriend wasn't too keen on my homecoming. We had a quick drink and he dropped me back off at my motel where I scrounged up my change to buy some Whoppers from the vending machine for dinner. I settled in for the evening to watch "Three to Tango" on HBO.

My brother and I met up at our old house, like homing pigeons. We walked down the street for some coffee and I 19)filled him in on my trip. He convinced me to stay my last night at his new place in San Bruno, just outside the city. I'll gladly pay $98 a night just for the privilege of not inconveniencing anyone, but he actually seemed to want me.

It's surprising how late in life you still get that "I can't believe I'm a grown-up feeling," like when your big brother, the guy who used to force you to watch "Gomer Pyle" reruns, owns his own place. It was small and sparse and he had just moved in but it was his. The refrigerator had nothing but mustard, a few cheese slices and fourteen cans of Diet 7-Up.
We picked up some Taco Bell, rented a movie, popped some popcorn and I fell asleep on his couch.

Insomniacs rarely fall asleep on people's couches, dog clothes I assure you. I don't know why I slept so well after agonizing all weekend over the question of home, if I had one anymore, where it was. I only know that curled up under an old sleeping bag, the sound of some second-rate guy movie playing in the background, my brother in a chair next to me, I felt safe and comfortable and maybe that's part of what home is.
But it's not the whole story. As much as I'd like to buy the cliches about home being where the heart is, or as Robert Frost put it, "The place where when you have to go there, they have to take you in," a part of me thinks the truth is somewhere between the loftiness of all those platitudes and the concreteness of that wooden door on 26th street.
I'll probably be casing that joint from time to time for the rest of my life. I'll sit outside, like a child watching someone take away a favorite toy, and silently scream, "MINE!"

I still had a good time but there were at least two girls I knew well who ended up getting "friend dates" because nobody asked them who 100% would have said yes to me and 50% would have intercoursed me so I regret asking my boring date
Her mom was a real milf (mom I'd like to facebook) and we got along great, though!
