APB: All Points Bulletin is a Multiplayer online video game for Microsoft Windows based in urban sprawls and featuring two sides, Enforcers and the Criminals. Players may join either the Enforcers or the Criminals, and form sub-groups in these. The game design is led by David Jones, who contributed to the original Grand Theft Auto and Crackdown, and is being developed by Realtime Worlds. It was released on June 29, 2010 in North America, followed by a July 1 release in Europe and July 2 in the United Kingdom.
So Its seeming to be someones cashing in on the whole SA:MP Idea big time.... but It looks promising! Cops vs Thugs ..
Has anyone played this yet and have actual personal feedback towards the game? I'm debating on making this game take the niche I need till D3 launches..
-
I've played it, and I know that dragonx has as well.
I've pretty much stopped playing because there are a lot of problems that they need to iron out. Sure, the game is fun for a little bit.. But when you realize how ridiculously basic and dull the missions really are (go here and press F on door, press F to pick up item that drops from door, press F to get into escape vehicle, press F to etc, etc, etc...) then the game starts to get a little boring. Like the missions are so bad that it makes the actual PvP in the game feel worse. The PvP is okay, but the missions are really terribly designed.
There's also strange lag that a lot of people bitch about in regards to shots not registering on their targets. I've gotten that several times. I have emptied several SMG clips into people only to have them live and, a moment later, hit me with only a few shots from their own SMG, killing me. I have a friend who bitches that his grenades never hurt anybody, even when they blow up at point blank range.
Driving vehicles is pretty fun when you're just pissing around, but when you have to do a mission it becomes ridiculously annoying as pedestrians and NPC drivers almost feel attracted to your vehicle. Not to mention when you're on a chase mission, a lot of players who aren't even in your mission and are driving will intentionally ram you just to be assholes. They never know if you're on a mission or not. It's just that if they see you driving, they'll probably point their vehicle at your own unless they too are on a mission.
I always play as an Enforcer, but from what I hear, Criminals have it really rough once they reach a certain notoriety level. Criminal players say that they never get a rest and are always forced into missions by the game. They say that as soon as they log in, they are sometimes forced into missions before being able to do anything. I've heard Criminals bitch that they can't even go AFK, because they'll probably be forced into missions or die. Enforcers on the other hand have all the time in the world to piss around and do whatever they feel like doing. It's kind of unfair to force Criminals into things that they may not always want to do while Enforcers are free to do whatever they want.
There are horrendous load times on 32 bit operating systems and lots of crashes, so if you're not on 64 bit, you may want to wait until they stabilize the game a little bit. I used to be on 32 bit Windows and the technical problems that plagued me were far beyond unacceptable. I'm on 64 bit now and have only played APB a few times since switching, but I've had no problems since.
Oh, and there's a memory leak too. Don't play in windowed mode, because anything else you have running will barely even function as a result of the memory leak.
If you want something a little more in depth, here's a review that I wrote: http://rev-depot.com/2010/07/02/apb-review/
-
That seems really ironic and a generally unintuitive way to do things UPRC.
The criminals should be able to do stuff like whenever, but whenever a criminal does, it forces an enforcer to go into a mission. The enforcers should be the side that is obligated to do all their missions.
It wouldn't make the overall game any better, but it would make a bit more sense at least.
-
Yeah, it does strike me as a little odd. From what the Criminal players have said to me, they basically get no R&R unless they're in the social district.
-
Read your review on Gamefaqs n laughed when i seen your name cause there could be no other! I think I'll keep a watch on this till its better But I admit its still tempting none the less.. I loved when GW played SA:MP religiously.... that was a time.
-
APB is pretty fun when you play with friends, that's definitely the honest truth. I could probably still play for a bit each day or two with friends, but I don't think they play much anymore either.
If you have any friends who are interested in the game too, encourage them to give a try. The game is fun with friends, but with faceless strangers who are likely to bitch at you for any minute thing you do that they don't like...... not so much. It's worth mentioning that APB has a shit community. If you play, you should probably disable the district channel in your chat frame since it's full of the most childish nonsense that I've probably ever seen in an MMO.
And yeah, the fact that I'm the only one who has posted a review on GameFAQs is a little telling, sadly.
-
I MIGHT REMAKE AND GO ENFORCER BECAUSE IM TIRED OF LOGGING IN AND IT SAYING "YOU ARE BEING CHASED HAHA! 3 MINUTE TIME PENALTY!"
-
ABP= Shit
But I will compliment there custom ability.

Yeah, to APB's credit it is probably the best character customization ever.

Already shut down. Company assets went for sale and no one bought APB ...
Sad time as I didn't even get to Try it. Waiting for a private server release.

It probably won't come, unless the netcode is easy to break. Most people who played APB said it was awful, so coders probably wouldn't want to waste their time coming up with private server software.
-
Yeah, I'm glad that I never bought any additional game time.
APB was littered with so many problems. It's astounding that so many problems got through the beta and into the retail version, but I heard that the developers basically ignored negative feedback during the beta, so......
-
I would have very much like to have tried a trial.
-
Apparently This is being Renewed in the Q1 of 2011!
Free to Play with Micro Content system!
-
I was watching one of the Mega64 podcasts and they were talking about this game and the guys who made it and this made me really want to try it. I absolutely will if it's coming back.

Beta's up
-
Signed up, fuck yeah suck yeah.
-
I did to. Betas not fully up yet but its soon on release, so Beta Sign up is up is what I should have Said
-
Oh.. COME ON!!!
Closed beta is coming out mid Feb.
then Open in end of March I think?
Its f2p now, but also has 'cash item' gun rentals, As well as 'Premium members' (Heh, sounds familiar eh?) that have all the access possible and all guns and decals and cars and shit, basically what it would be if it was p2p like it was before close.
They are refitting the driving and aiming (the 2 main problems critics had with the game) and including punk busters, Monitoring aimbots/straight-guide software.
IMPATIENTLY WAITING!
-
They say you need a connection to the US servers of at least 150ms to even be able to play. Sounds like terrible netcode to me. I bet driving is still serverside.

thnigs like these are being worked out in the new release.
Looking to fix and figure things out and their setup of new servers too, during the release of open-beta or Pre-Launch.

Here's the interview I got that info from by the way

Lot more info released about this in the official forums at G1.
Closed beta signups ceased the 15th, and Closed Beta is expected to launch Feb 28th!
-
So I got my closed beta key today. Anyone else?
Sent in my application and now I have to wait to see if I actually get picked. I assume that that's what the 28th deadline is for.
Though the email says "Presuming you fill out the information correctly and completely in the Closed Beta Application, we will then let you access the game ahead of all other gamers." Sounds like as long as you don't fill the application with garbage you're free to go.
-
crimecraft > apb
-
I've never played either but I mostly want APB just because it's supposed to have ridiculously cool customization.

Got mine too.
And the information fill is to see what wide spectrum of players can/will play.
Like low end and high end users to people with high pings to people sitting on the servers..
I have a med tier computer, and am on a remote island on the east coast of canada, but my ping times are still great. so i may be beneficial to testing some server or distance testing.
I believe on the APB forums they sai the closed beta will allow just over 8,000 players for the initial phase

I hope that being a girl means I'm instantly in ;D #womenslib
-
Got my proper invite, downloading the client now. Anyone else?
-
yeah I got the invite, Ill download as I go to school
-
i've been enjoying this so far. i've been playing as both a criminal and an enforcer (is this what they're called??? i almost just said COPS), i like both but i keep getting killed in PVP as either one so uh i'm pretty sure this is a game that's best played with buds since i don't trust random groups to work nicely together.
but the customization rules really hard and i made a decal of door door to put on anything and everything so YEP.
-
Does this game have a prison for when a criminal is caught doing a crime that the police don't have to go to if they're caught doing a crime? if so it's very realistic -.-'''
fuck the police coming straight from the underground ¬_¬
-
no but it does have ACNE SCARRING as an option for character creation so it is pretty realistic
