Title: Books! Books! Novels! Books...
Post by: Brown on August 11, 2010, 09:55:17 am
Hey guys, I went to the library today after years of not bothering to, and I was too confused. I didn't want to just pick a random book off of a shelf so decided to get back home. It's been a while since I've read a good book. I mostly read fictional stuff just to get out of reality orsomething, and I was wondering if any of you out there can name a few books that have led you to either different worlds, a different time or just a really amazing experience reading something.

Books I remember reading and loving  >>>
Redwall Series (lol!)
Harry Potter Series
LOTR, The Hobbit
Kite Runner

well, I'll read basically anything, but I also like sequels, trilogies etcs

Also, If you have an author or two whose works have been fascinating to you i'd like to hear your recommendations

Let the book naming begin!

James Patterson's Alex Cross series are a huge favorite of mine, mainly Along Came a Spider & Cat and Mouse.
They are police/mudermystery type books but they focus on the psyche game thing.

They are not incredibly smart though Patterson has a campy kind of writing and things come off kind of immature or something.
I guess you'd have to read his stuff to know what I mean, but in addition to this series which I really like, he has a women's mystery club series and a series called 'max ride' that i unfortunately picked up and found out it's essentially twilight with angels as opposed to vampires

Lies of Locke Llamora..

it's a funny fantasy story about a con artist., it's really cool. Haven't finished it yet though.

EDIT:
wikipedia entry:
The Lies of Locke Lamora is a fantasy novel by Scott Lynch. It follows the adventures of a group of con artists known as the Gentlemen Bastards. They live in a city called Camorr, heavily based on late medieval Venice. The book is divided into two interspersed stories. In the present time, the Gentlemen Bastards must contend with the Grey King, a powerful figure terrorizing Camorr's criminal community. Every other chapter, however, delves into the history and mythology of Camorr, the Gentlemen Bastards, and especially the protagonist Locke Lamora.

@Brown: the next books just keeps on getting better. I haven't read the latest yet though, Atlantis Complex.
