Title: What is mini modding?
Post by: Rowain on May 18, 2006, 02:52:01 pm
United GW Films presents...

Mini Modding... and you!

Example:

JoeyJoe posts a topic about the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album in General. Obviously this is the wrong forum. Another member, RogerClemmins, comes into the topic and posts WRONG FORUM. This is mini modding.

Example:

JoeyJoe posts a link to his forums, Super RMXP Zone, in Power People and Advertising. This is against the rules because he doesn't have any site to go with the forums. Here comes RogerClemmins! He posts READ THE RULES, THIS IS AGAINST THE RULES AND WILL LIKELY GET LOCKED. This is mini modding!

Example:

JoeyJoe posts a topic about his game, Final Fantasy: Another Fangame in Game and Demo. He doesn't include any downloads or screens. Trusty RogerClemmins arrives and informs JoeyJoe YOU NEED SCREENS OR THIS IS GONNA BE LOCKED. Again, mini modding!

So what is mini modding?

Mini modding is when members (re: non-mods) act like they have authority when they do not. Telling someone their topic is going to be locked is mini modding. Basically, acting like a mod when you aren't is mini modding.

It IS possible to inform someone of a mistake with their topic without pissing off the mods and getting warned. If someone posts a topic in the wrong place, tell them so, but also comment on the topic as if it were in the right place. If someone posts a topic that you KNOW is going to get locked, shut up and don't post. Hit the report button. Posting THIS WILL BE LOCKED or LOL WHAT just annoys mods further. If someone posts a G&D topic without screens or downloads, comment on what IS there or don't post. Mods have their job for a reason and don't need members trying to look good.

I personally warn for mini modding whenever I catch it. It's often seen in PP&A with people who try to act like mods there.

To summarize:

Mini modding is acting like a mod or someone with power/authority when you aren't. It's stupid and annoying and can get you warned. "Don't take the rules into your own hands."
