Title: Pokemon Black/White
Post by: Kezay on March 07, 2011, 05:36:59 pm
Anybody pick this up yet or play it beforehand through some other means?

Gotta say, pretty refreshing to walk through Route 1 and not get attacked by Rattata every step of the way like in every game since the original Red and Blue back in 1998.  All the Pokemon until you beat whatever end game scenario there is are all new so it kind of takes me back to day when I first played Blue and everything felt "new" to me.  Playing this game is kind of like starting over in the series.

Seeing the Pokemon animated now is pretty cool and the revamping of a lot of systems in the game (like the C-Gear handling all the wireless comms. work) makes things more convenient.  And holy crap, TMs are limitless use now, probably my favorite new addition/change thus far.  I've only gotten one gym badge thus far but the pacing is a lot better too.  No more of this go to the next town to pick up a package and bring it back to the first town to progress the story so nothing has really been tedious or overbearing so far.  I also like the music and how it changes in battle when your pokemon is on the ropes.  Even better is this sort of "onward to victory" music that plays when you've got the gym leader down to his last Pokemon.

Anyway, I've only scratched the surface of the game but I'm really enjoying it so far.  Makes me wonder where they'll go with a 3DS proper Pokemon game in due time.  Kind of wish it was a 3DS title considering the benefits that Street/Spot Pass would bring to a game like this.

I was at EB games (or Gamestop for Americans, I think) and I saw it for sale but I was there to buy Killzone 3. I'll probably be seeing what my friend thinks of it, as he bought it on release, and then pick it up.
Something about B&W is they expanded on the annoying concept of waiting in real time for ingame events (safari zone/balls from kurt). Now we have to wait for seasons and ugh.

I got it today, only just made it to the first Pokemon Center (been very busy today didn't have much time to play it) but I really enjoy it so far.  I'll definitely be trading friend codes with anyone who wants mine as soon as I find out what mine is ;D

Almost at the third gym, but I decided to farm Victini first(you can kill him as many times as you want before catching him and he gives decent xp).

Here's my FC and anyone wants it: 0647-5082-0349(trainer name is Gaz but I don't think you need it)

I can't stop catching them all

l http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/07/presidents-of-the-united-states-of-america-pen-a-pokemon-song/ (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/07/presidents-of-the-united-states-of-america-pen-a-pokemon-song/)

I'm at the 2nd gym and I deiced to go on a random tangent on lv-ing up my pignite when I was weaker then normal in heath I stumble upon a Pokemon That I tired to capture. but it was like lv17 I was 23  had about 42% heath(I thought if it hit me once the worst it would do was put me in the red) so I used a week move on it to take it down little bit so not to kill it. Then it hits me and then I knew i was going to be wheeling as my pignite hit the floor. Then I threw out my lv 13 Purrioin and manage to take him down to yellow so I start to throw great balls at it. The ball shakes once as I start to feel the joy of getting such pokemon just for my hopes to be dashed out with him braking out so I hit him a few more times and I lost a few more pokemon (In my defense the rest where lv 9 ) I got him to like 20% tired to throw every ball I had in a last ditch tire to capture this bitch but first I gave him stats aliment to improve my chance I put him to sleep. After wasting ever ball had. I found my self wanting to run but I fail at do so as he finished up the last of my pokemon.

I will never forgive Sawk never

Also Dead P where do you find the friend code?

Also Dead P where do you find the friend code?
After the first gym you do some quest for some researcher, she'll give you a pal pad(a key item) which has your FC in it (and is also were you input others FC). You also have to log onto Nintendo's servers once to get a code, you can just use the C-gear's game sync, it'll fail to log on, but you'll still get your code.

smugleaf is based on rose of versailles, the creator said this in an interview.  this makes three references to lady oscar in pokemon total (the other two are in the anime).  there might be more even, these are just the ones i've seen but i am VERY lol at how often lady oscar comes up in pokemon

You might be right but I like to elongate the te  part so it sound like tea pig.

All the haters try to watch him riding dirty.

Update: Celestial Tower suck on so many levels of balls. litwick is so common it's not funny I only found one other pokemon there and only ran in to it once if that's telling you how rare it is to get something other then litwick.

Pokedex 90 obtained 52

Bitches don't know about my Girugalith.

WTF!?  I've only just beaten Clay so I'm still newbing around all these new Pokemon. *hugs Krokorok*

I'll get my FC up a bit later I guess.

Also, to hell with Clay and his damned Mole.  Had to pull my Throh out of storage and train it up exclusively to deal with that mofo.

Everything is coming to ahead for me I'm almost got the legendary Dragon just need to go back to rout 4 and kick some ass to get it. then beat last gym leader and bam off to the rat race.

Also I forget where that kid was that wanted to see a dragon type if any one know that will help BTW black.

here a hint a lot of plasma Pokemon are normal so fighting attacks work wonders.

I picked up a garbador he was a pain in the ass to get I had to use a time ball since ultras where failing. not like I will use him because it's better to train it from the ground up so it will sit in my box.

Update: near the end of the game it's like moving around to place to place like on victory road is like a PP endurance match that I seem to lose every time and seem to be taking a lot trips back a forth center.

Update 2:Just saw how awesome a evolved form of timburr can be and yes I will get him because I have 2 DSes and black and white

Update 3:also found a doctor in VR witch will help abundantly

Update 4: knocking at elite 4's door right now.

Title: Pokemon Black/White
Post by: DDay on March 12, 2011, 04:26:24 pm
big update

I bought 99 revives and 99 Hyper potions

I walked thru the door to the finale challenge. In front of me I saw statue that said what and witch each elite trainer that lies behind each door.

I found out that too my right there was a door that harbored ghost Trainer Lucky me I had 2 Pokemon with dark attacks I switched in Liepard Lv59 and killed like 4 of her pokemon then I got careless and lost him so I thought I could push Embore Lv59 to deal a bit of damage so my weaker Stoutland Lv46 can take it down with a dark move and I pulled off a win and he got a level there now got to figure out which one next to go too. looks like another rinse  and repeat scenario

Used 2 revives and 2 hypers

I deiced to do fighting next I don't have any tump card to do more damage but I have a fighting type on my side and the best part is I fire witch is better then using fire.

Embore is released then the elite throws Throh. off the gate I use Heat Crash and it takes him down bit above 25% if I have to guess 35% Did it once more one hit more too kill Throh. Had to use another hyper and he used full heal :( did heat crash 3 more times for the kill. Next up Sawk lv48 this time I'll go with smog to conserve Heat crash only have 4/10 left. smog missed. So I tried it once more, a hit and poisoned.  now I need to use hyper potion. I'm taking a risk and using head smash miss let's do this once more hit and he's out for the count. my hp is 70 so I need a hyper. Also bad news he threw out conkeldurr I know I'm going to be fighting a up hill Battle with the pokemon. Carp his Attack took half my HP lets hope he has no buff. Also I heal if you didn't know. he just did the same move I might be able to hold out till he's out of PP on his Hammer Arm (http://pokemondb.net/move/hammer-arm) so I'll tell you when I stop rinsing and repeating. Breaking news he finally missed Time to drop him I use heat crash and he just critical hit me. So I use a hyper. Hyper are at 82. he hit me and I used heat crash. now I need to heal once more.

he just used grass knot so I hit him once more with Heat crash. and he just crit me so I need to heal and he used full restore on conkeldurr. I trying  smog missed, missed need to heal did Smog, missed, missed, heal, smog hit no poison smog missed, heal smog missed and then hit. all he has is grass knot I heal so I don't kill my self for head smash hit head smash once more and ding dong the witch is dead. Now for his last he throws out Mieshao lv50 I heal and it looks like another rinse and repeat scenario

Other thought when doing this healing and get hit thing:Ether I wished I did buy more heals and maybe grained and bit more.

Took a big risk and paid off I his him with Smog with poison now just need to wait it out got lucky because I had less then 35% Hp and kill him with heat crash.

A win is a win no matter by the biggest margins too the smallest.

current team = Throh , Pidove, Dewott, Herdier, Simisear and blitzle

Throh is a total beast, I might get a decent bug one and replace Pidove, and a roggenrolla instead of Herdier, but I dunno.

I use  Liepard and he use Scrafty I use night slash the after that change out for Embore I use arm trust hits 3 times and once more arm trust missed and I do it again missed need to heal now.  and did a ram trust hits for 2 and he dead. He trows out Krookodile and Iuse arm trust hits for 2 hits and he hit for a kill so I throw in Stoutland and use Retaliate for the kill. he throws out Bisharp and now I use full revive  on Embore then switch back to EmboreI use heat crash and then arm trust and he used full heal and 3 hit for me for the kill Scoutland lv up. He throws out Carracosta and I healed. carracosta almost did a killing blow too my Reshiram I used Extrasensory and Carracosta missed I use dragon breath  and my dragon was killed I trow in Stoutland and use Retaliate for the killing blow and switch out for Embore he uses Klinklang (Fake) I use  Arm Trust 2 hits dead and now he trows out the real one I use the same move hits 2 times for 1/2 of his hp now for the kill with 3 hits. He throws in Archeops I use heat crash dose silighly less then 1/2 damage and Emboar gets killed I thorw out Stoutland and use Retaliate then I use crunch for the kill and Stoutland got a level up he throws out Vanilluxe and I revive Reshiram and Stoutland kicked the buket now I switch back to Reshiram and use F.F for the kill.and I won.

There was one more boss but I will keep him out anywasy he was nothing compared to what you had to go thru so he's a push over with 6 pokemon.

Looker won't take no as an answer.

The ROM, if it's out (usually people dump the cartridge ASAP to be OMG THE FIRST TO DUMP),  will probably have some huge issue like save data being weird formats or black screens or issues with the ingame timer. It's really only Pokemon games that have this problem every time they're released.

yeah my emerald rom broke at the end of the elite 4 thing and I had no saves before that so the whole game was a waste. I kinda liked it while it lasted tho which is a lot more than I was expecting from a pokemon game! I had bad memories of red and blue.

why do you think i like geodude so much? he has crippling type weakness but he's also A ROCK WITH ARMS
Title: Pokemon Black/White
Post by: Kaworu on March 13, 2011, 10:56:36 pm
I used to be a geodude fan, but after using him for like three games, I got tired and wanted a change. I'm currently using the roggenrolla evolution line because 1. It's a similar name to a Judas Priest album (Rocka Rolla) 2. It's essentially geodude with a new paintjob and 3. it looks cool

Cought me a Trubbish, named Oscar (gee aren't I a funbag or originality!), not really found much use for him though as my whirlipede has the poison base well covered. Think I'll just evolve him and then dump him onto the pc.

I'm gunna evolve my starter pokemon and get rid of that too, as he's kinda naff, all three of them were quite bad this time round. Gunna get the water one from the Clover Fossil, it looks cools.

Title: Pokemon Black/White
Post by: DDay on March 14, 2011, 06:39:25 am
I pick what I like too I like My starter and I won't lie I also like Smug leaf and to anyone that likes the otter starter Pokemon he's so ugly.

Black and I think Vellfire has Black too But I will flash white so I can trade all the starters and also the legendary. Yes this time I'm aiming to catch them all this time I know can do it.

One thing I do hate is getting old Types of Pokemon (capturing them in Black and White) in this game and using because you get them at a too high of a Level and they will never be as good as they could of been if you raised them from the ground up.

Just got Tornadus with a Master ball....I wonder if there is other Pokemon I need master balls for?

Ill most likely get this for my DS at some point (I get almost no other use out of it other than pokemon games) but I don't think I'll be missing it much by playing it on the computer.

Having no interest for special downloadables, trading, pokewalker, and etc.... can anyone convince me to hold out for whenever I feel like getting the DS version instead of playing through a rom?

That's where a trusty fire type comes in handy.  Wreak all kinds of havoc on a grass/steel dual type like him. ;)

You dumped Samurott for Tirtouga?  Mofo are you serious? :P j/k  The turtle is pretty great, especially it's evolved form.  Has nothing on Blastoise though.

Anyway, beat the end game scenario last night.  It was something different especially having the game focused around that kind of story like that, but I liked it.  Now to track down that uncatchable thunder god that I'm sure I've whittled down to 1HP.

I just beat the elite four and I saved inside N's castle.

my current team (it's just what im using to get through the story. is anyone here into competitive pokemon? i have lots of friends who do all the ev training and stuff but i haven't really done much of it myself since RSE)

garbodor
archeops
piggy
audino (he's my surfer)
emolga (Minipete from an ingame trade ^o^)
durant

i'm amazed by all the cool 3D stuff in this game. i mean yeah sure it's so outdated compared to lots of other games graphically, but they managed to do lots of great stuff while still keeping it feeling TOTALLY LIKE POKEMON.

the best part for me is that I didn't do any research or follow any info on the game like I have with all the newgen released previously. playing this game blind has been an amazing experience—like playing pokemon blue for the first time over a decade ago. it feels fresh and familiar at the same time!!!

This game was pretty sweet, I just beat the main game and opened up the other half of unova.

sometimes i yearn for a pokemon game that acknowledges the real world though... like they have this other side of unova with all these cities and all i can think about is how the pokemon league is essentially destroying the economy over there because all the gyms are on the other side and travelers/trainers have no reason to go to these places.
also my ocd is constantly bothered by the fact that the leveling system contradicts the  gym leaders and elite four because even the worst trainers will eventually be able to beat these guys so long as they dont quit...

ugh i think i am just aging too quickly for pokemon...

the gym leaders and the elite four members have teams that they use for their day job where the levels are strictly regulated by the Pokemon League to ensure fair competition amongst beginning trainers, but I'd think that they also have personal teams that are probably all competitive level100s.

Just spent about 2 hours+ today trying to train a Gyarados and teach it Dark Pluse(had to pick this up since I skipped it the first time I went though victory road... with pokemon more then ten levels below the random pokemon in the area) with the one TM79 you get in Platinum(only had one level 19 Bronzor to start since I already moved all my other pokemon to Black and I was on the other side of the map) so I could breed the move to a Hydreigon, only to realize mid save the Gyarados I taught it to was female who can't teach moves though breeding.

my favorite pokemon joke:
"James detached a small round machine from his belt. "Why don't you check out our website," he taunted. He pushed a button and a net flew out of the machine, trapping Ash, Misty, and Brock. "

I clocked in about 60 hours on the game, convinced that I was going to try and do some breeding and EV training.  Then I gave up.  Easily the best Pokemon game since G/S/C but I still vastly prefer the old gameboy ones simply for nostalgia and simplicity's sake.

I'm playing this for some reason, and at this point I definitely enjoyed Emerald more. probably should have waited for the third game of this generation

kinda felt rushed to the elite 4, but I guess that's because they're really focusing on online play this time around

here's my eBLEAT 4 crew:
Scrafty
Garbodor
Samurott
Ferrothorn
Chandler
Archeops
I saw you guys talking about trubbish the rest are a coincidence

I thought I was alone in thinking that emerald was superior. I just got to the game myself and 50 hours in, just an hour or two after beating the elite four and exploring some of the additional content I felt very underwhelmed. It's nice that they mixed the types up a bit, going out of their way to counter the obvious type counters for their roster (ie logic defying surfs and earthquakes) but the end it was still way too familiar a formula for me to give this the credit it seemed to have wanted by changing only in aesthetics alone (by the way thanks for adding load times to areas who's sole purpose for existing was to showcase alternate viewing angles).

My initial Elite Four group was...

Samurott - Balanced stats overall. Grass Knot and X-Scissor proved to be very useful.

Scrafty - Shed skin seems to benefit single play more than online play, which worked out great for me.

Sigilyph - Crazy speed, decent evs, hidden power: dragon. Very situational. Sure,  she was my second hardest hitter, but she cannot compete with my next one.

Darmanitan - Crazy speed, does 3/4 damage to fire resist pokemon with flare blitz.... what a champ. Sheer Force and Life orb stacking on flare blitz has to be the single most powerful non legendary attack in the game.

Fraxure - basically canon fodder to keep the other pokemon up. It was much too slow to compete the first time around.

Larvesta - Exp leech. It wasn't until it got to about lvl 52 that I realized you could just catch a volcarona post elite four round 1 at that sand resort place. I feel like I wasted my time since I raised that Larvesta since lvl 1 and it was never good enough to hold it's own in battle with it's gimped move pool and speed. I then proceeded to abuse save/ reload cycles until I caught a modest Volcarona. Probably not the best option for competitive play (which would most likely be timid) but I'm sure it will get me through the game without feeling like I'm cheesing it too badly.  It does have some awesome stats and type coverage though... it's an interesting mix for sure.
