Title: make money
Post by: ATARI on April 01, 2011, 06:12:00 pm
Hi.  I'm a broke college student that is looking for some ways that would be good to make money in addition to things that I am already doing as a college student, which includes working part time for my school library, and being a TA for a biology class.

What you have guys done or would suggest that would be practical ways of getting a little extra money for saving up for a rainy day kinda deal?  I don't have like a collection of D&D collectibles or anything like that, the only real "collection" of things that I have are like older CDs and clothing, and I've been going through ever so slowly in getting rid of a few things that I don't really wear anymore, but it turns out most people don't want to buy that shit either.

Is there anything you guys have done as students or busy people to make a little extra on the side?  I don't have the time to pick up any more jobs considering I am working two part time ones and doing school at the same time.

This isn't me looking for another major source of income too, just something that I can pick up a few extra dollars here and there and save up for sometime when I might need it.

Try private tuition. You can make really great cash and it's regular work. I mean, as a rule they prefer qualified teachers, but I know the company I work for also accepts college graduates/people at college to tutor in like GCSE stuff (but they get paid a tiny bit less). It's hourly work too, so like even though it's part time you could do like one or two hours of it and make yourself like $50+ I think.

Alternatively: Crime.

I gave guitar lessons to about 4-6 students during high school, so I could maybe pick that up again.  I don't think I could over the rest of this semester, but maybe next year when my schedule isn't so full on up here.

I know some poeple who deal weed/etc in the area right now, and a) as friends with some of them, I would feel bad being competition, and b) more importantly I don't quite have the personal connections with some of the sources and that sort of thing regarding it .

Go to the nearest emo clothing outlet and busk nearby. You'll be knee deep in change and underage girls.

just dont take their customers then?? you're in college, dealing weed is the easiest thing in the world. even just buying a zip and selling what you dont smoke could net you an extra 30-50 per ounce

In college my brother in law used to do those paid medical studies, a la the PRACS Institute (http://www.pracs.com/index2.html). You get paid to take drugs that aren't on the market yet, but are safe enough for clinical human trials. I hear you can make a couple hundred dollars per study. Since you're a strapping young healthy lad, I'm sure you'll live...

If you are good at computer you can freelance as a web designer/developer/programmer/illustrator/photographer etc. or sell whatever creations you are capable of making to stock sites.

But yeah. The only way to make money is to a) work for it b) do something illegal or c) have a lot of luck.

Good luck!

I find landing freelance work really hard. If I ever did get any it's because someone asked my dad who lectures in a sorta media creation area. It's good if you can get it. Computer incompetent people put a lot of money aside for their websites although some know slave labour when they see it.

I still think my last suggestion was better :P

Okay, I kind of figured as much.  I would have the time potentially next year to do some teaching guitar or something like that.  As far as dealing pot, there would be some people I know I could talk to, something that could happen during the summer as well.

Another thing I was thinking of was recording a few more songs and putting together another iTunes release, since the last time I released an album through iTunes I managed to make a little bit of money on the side.

yeah fix people computer esp. because sometimes it's not even that broken and people in general outside your circle of nerd friends are just not good at computer?

haha I wonder if anybody ever makes money off of... there are websites where you can sell licenses to your BEATS like $60 to own the right to use my beat I made in FL Studio
