Post by: hero_bash on January 13, 2012, 10:30:17 am
I don't get why you have to confirm email address on registration pages. Surely it's not to keep the bots out. Passwords make sense since they're some sort of hidden when you type them. But on emails all I do is just copy paste what I typed on the email address. completely unnecessary yet i always see it in almost all registration pages. why?

I don't use Twitter myself to post or anything, but I have an account so I can follow athletes (in MMA in particular it's a great way to keep up with what's going on in the sport).

One really common thing is for people to ask for 'retweets' on their birthdays and shit from fighters for no fucking reason whatosever other than I guess they think it's cool that somebody noticed them or something?

Either way, it's a little thing that irritates the fucking hell out of me.

ie. @Urjiahfaber: happy bday bro RT@faberfan045 can your biggest fan get a birthday retweet?

honestly I kind of changed my point of view on that stuff. Like, if they aren't requiring everyone to publically read that shit and its not a part of the curriculum otherwise what harm is in it? If that shit is offensive to athiests; we had a public prayer day every month or some crap at my highschool where all of the "devout christian students" would go out at the flagpole and pray together and bask in their self-rightious bullshit (and there were a whole lot of them).

Even still though I don't find anything wrong with that other than its kind of like stroking your own dick even if you are religious you're supposed to keep that kind of stuff to your self or it devalues it (is the way I saw it). All religions were welcome to come and do that even though you know its complete bullshit and most other religions don't pray like that. I think the best way to deal with those people is let them be and let them spread their old bible quotes and ancient philosophies, so what? But everytime they try to force that shit on other people, put their beliefs into a system thats supposed to be neutral, and ridicule others for not believing they should be publically scruitinized until they get the goddamn point.

Is it wrong for me to hate slutty women? Is saying that in itself sexist? I don't like men that do that shit either but I've got this total discontent for people that don't respect themselves or anyone else and use sex and emotion as a form of manipulation or maybe even not that? Just not having a fucking conscious about it?

Like, I used this girl awhile ago for sex. I didn't really use her I just fucked with her without the intent of taking it any further and got out while I could. I still treated her right the whole time and never disrespected her and acted like I was listening to her terrible bullshit when I was with her. She was just a terrible person; had a severe drug problem, was racist, and used dudes for money (she thought I was dumb enough to fall for it too). I kind of knew a little of this but gave her the benefit of the doubt and I always have this tendancy to think maybe I can rub off on bad people? I think she actually fell in love with me but I'm not sure she could have been acting.

I don't feel guilty for doing that, should I? Does that make me a slutty person too? I don't do that stuff alot I was just lonely and she was hitting on me so I was like, "why the hell not".

Its just I've been with a couple of girls that do not care. Just don't care. Like, the first one I was with like that wanted me to fall in love with her or something and I didn't know her that well. When I didn't do what she wanted she fucked some other dude I went to HS with while I was at work.

And the last one I was with I actually fell for and she just turned into a fucking monster. I didn't know her that well but I heard she was a good person and I saw that in her (or thought I did) but she was going through a breakup with an asshole and wouldn't let herself give a fuck about me. And instead preferred snorting molly and sucking a stranger's dick.

I hate people like that. And I don't want to be angry or judgemental but there are alot of women like that (and I know men too but I'm not fucking with men). Is it wrong for me to pick those people out and either stay away from them or make them feel terrible for being that way?

I don't study women's psychology and all my feminism I get from here. And I prolly need to know if my discontent is right or wrong?

whatever dude. easy or loose doesn't sound specific enough and I do not speak politically correct. If you want to concentrate on my verbage and not the rest of what I said then go away.

That is an archaic way of thinking anyways. Fucking words change all the time and when I say shit like that its meant to apply to either gender if you'd read more you'd know that. The fuck you call a man that does the same shit? A pig? I'd call him a slut or a whore I don't care what they used that word for in the 1900 or some jackass rapper uses it for I don't care.

Like, if you know anything about speaking spanish. Most words have a femenine and masculine form. So when you talk to a man you use different words that when talking to women. Is that sexist? A whole language built like that? The fuck I use a derogatory term for a terrible person and I'm a mysogonist. I don't like having my language limited by intellectual guilt trip nitpicking.

this shit just seems really really lame to me. I shouldn't call a dude a bastard because its not fair to children without fathers or a dude a son of a bitch because its sexist to his mother or another person a motherfucker because its sexist and insulting to his mother.

I also hate it when people replace these words with kindergarten style words because it sounds really fake and forced. Like cautiously watching their own language for fear of offending anyone that might hear and not give a shit enough to look further into it.

No I'm serious.

I understand racial slurs. And slurs against homosexuals. Those words aren't used in any different forms of context. But the one I used can be non-gender specific. Because viewpoints on male and female sexuality have slowly changed over time (for some people). I think its more about intent than word usage and jumping on that shit without thinking about it is nitpicking.

Like, I've had so many people tell me I hold women to some unreasonable point of respect. Which I don't agree with because thats generalization. But I think that people that act like that in general don't deserve any respect and there is nothing wrong with calling them that because they obviously don't give a shit enough about themselves to change it.

I do understand how that could look bad but I think if you think about it. Its really not if the intent isn't gender specific.

Hey, I'm all for anti-racial/sexism/anything but fuck being politicaly correct, it's bullshit that causes more problems. If I want to call some a phsycho wackjob becuase thats what they are then that's what I'm going to say, I'm not gonna say "Socially challenged individual". The only reason I have to be polite and respectfull is becuase they have yet to act like a complete dick to me, I'm polite to pretty much every one, but if you piss me off I'm gonnah say what I think reguardless of it being PC. PC and health and safety piss me right off.

Hey, I'm all for anti-racial/sexism/anything but fuck being politicaly correct, it's bullshit that causes more problems.
If you're against sexism and racism then you shouldn't be against so-called political correctness. The only time this term comes up is when someone says something horrible—they then use it to dismiss any criticism it gets them. Really, it's nothing more than a pack mule for racists and the like.

yeah little things don't irritate me so much. everyone is stressed out and their lives are all a mess so i try to keep that in mind.
That's a good thing to keep in mind. I'll have to remember that myself.

political correctness is a fictional concept to deride people who treat marginalized groups as human beings
Title: Little Things that Irritate you
Post by: Faust on January 15, 2012, 06:22:31 pm
Indeed. Much like 'Health and Safety' (another good concept!) people tend to use the term 'Political Correctness' to describe anything that they are personally against, i.e. treating not minorities with the scorn they obviously deserve.

The phrase should be 'Not being an oppressive dick' instead of 'Political Correctness'. That'd show people the score!!

Oh wait I forgot WHAT ABUOT FREDOMS OF SPEACH I.E TEH RITE TO SAY WHAT I WNAT TO DEM BLACK AND GAY POPELES AN TELL EM WHAT I FINKS OF EM?!

Oh also: what irritates me? Less and less of late, but probably the worst thing is people's ungrateful attitudes. Like the BBC here has come up with a plan to have an online streaming service where you can watch any show from their archives (like sixty years of good tv) through the iplayer. Unfortunately, however, they need to offset the cost as the licence fee won't cover it, so they're planning to charge a tiny fee to allow people to access the content.

Newspaper's and the general public's attitude: WHAT WE HAVE TO PAY TWICE THIS IS A TAX HOW UNFAIR I SHOULD GET IT ALL FOR FREE!!!

Amazing. Simply amazing.

I'm not talking about not being a racist prick I'm talking about office water cooler word watching political correctness.

If you have to carefully phrase what you're trying to say and everything you do so some sensitive prick doesn't call HR and force everyone to take a bunch of sensitivity training classes you are being robbed of your individuality and free thinking.

People do not think the same or talk the same and assuming someone is a racist/sexist/homophobe without actually figuring out what that person's mental condition and meaning for the use of whatever they were saying is just as bad as being a sexist/racist/homophobe. Its turning your brain off and making judgements based on what you are hearing/seeing. Its fucking stupid.

Example: Joey is talking to his friend tom at work about his son. "yeah, I'm trying to teach him how to throw a baseball but he keeps flinging his wrist at the end and that shit looks pretty gay."

Third person assumes that joey is a homophobic asshole because he used the word gay casually. What third person didn't know is joey's parents are both male and he voted for gay rights at the last state-wide election. No, it is not politically correct what joey said but it is no ones right to call or assume he is a bad person for it, or that he is even homophobic. Because they did not take the time to observe/listen to whatever else he had to say or get to know him they have absolutely no right to make that assumption.

Post by: Faust on January 15, 2012, 06:41:07 pm
Farren, I see where you're coming from with that example, but I was talking about using 'Political Correctness' in a pejorative way to state that it's insane that you "aren't allowed" to be actually prejudiced towards people. Like "I can't believe I'm not allowed to ban gay people from my hotels, this is political correctness gone mad!" or "I can't believe I'm not allowed to refuse to hire black people for my businesses, we all know they work less hard than whitefolk, this is political correctness gone mad!". This is commonly how the terms are used - we had a scandal here about a B&B being taken to court for refusing (illegally) to provide services for a gay couple. There were a lot of "This is political correctness gone mad"s thrown around as the story grew.

Sure, the offhand use of words like 'gay' as a negative is offensive, but I don't think anyone is seeking anything other than quiet conversation and explanation of why something is offensive in situations like that. The example you used, while it does play into stereotypes, isn't any different than phrases I use every day. For example, I like flowers. If I ever pass a flower in the street which I quite like, I go "Wow, nice flower" or some shit. Paolo, my other half, 100% of the time will then do a campy impression (think Larry Grayson) and say "OOOhhh flowers, I'm a big gay" or somesuch. I think there's a huge difference between private banter and public statements when it comes to political correctness.
Title: Little Things that Irritate you
Post by: Farren on January 15, 2012, 06:53:00 pm
I just think its peoples idea (especially here) that YOU can't say that because you're male or you're white or you're not gay. Which is stupid and reverse predjudice in my opinion. If you can overcome that barrier and not be too offensive and still let people know that you don't personally believe some fucked up shit it should not matter and dwelling on language is being a douchebag.

Black dude I work with hates all rap music, kids that wear baggy pants, and a bunch of other stereotypes and talks like "thats mines" "yessum" shit like that etc etc etc... He does it half ironically and half because he's over fifty and from mississippi. Dude told me he doesn't hang out with too many black folk because they all expect him to give them shit. And doesn't like black women. I am less racist about black people than he is.

So what, cus I fuck and joke around sometimes about race (I never use the word nigga, no one should black or white) I'm an asshole? An example of how I joke is we had to work in a manhole and when my boss got out he was looking at his clothes to see if he had gotten anything on em and I said he had black shit all over his face and he actually started wiping it off.

But he jokes with me too thats a good racial relationship. Much better than word watching.

I agree with what you're talking about though.

If words can have that kind of weight and responsibility tied to them, that the use of certain words has to be put off limits for ethical rationale, then they really should be researched as a possible form of mind control.

I mean they do give you complete control over someone else's sense of being offended at you. Maybe some research could turn that into being able to offend someone so much they go jump off a cliff against their will. Or maybe it offends them so much, they go the rest of their life under the honest belief that they are a chicken. If it could possibly be weaponized, think of how useful it would be against potential enemies.

It's like how you know not to swear in a job interview or around your grandma or some shit.

I've done both those things. I don't use a chain of fucks but otherwise I don't check my language and I don't give a shit who gets offended by it. But I am a sailor and thats kind of part of the job description. Also that is why I will never step inside of a church, because that is like an automatic expactancy of character change for everyone because of religious belief and I believe thats bullshit. If you are a certain way you should not hide or change that fact temporarily.

I think its because we come from a different up-bringing. My moms cussed worse than I do now when I was growing up. I'm constantly surrounded by slurs at home and even though I don't like it I have learned to live with it. Even at my work where there are gay people, some folks use the word faggot alot. They're careful not to do it infront of them because its disrespectful but they still say the shit. no, I don't use the word faggot it has no other use than to insult a homosexual directly.

Also, I think "slut" and "slutty" are a little different.

IE: "That person is a slut" can and will immediately be assumed to be directed at a woman

"that person is pretty slutty" is more of a characteristic of behavior

You're mudding it all up though I think. Because yes there are certain words you just don't use but there are some that aren't as offensive as you make them out to be unless you make them personally offensive.

I don't know I'm just tired of fighting words I consider to be valueless, its context for me. I can't assume shit about people without knowing the context, if I did I would be entirely alone.

The only one of the words I mentioned that I even use in any real vein is whore. And like I said, asexually. I shouldn't have used the word slut because it is too feminine directed but I was in a bad place when I wrote that. Fuck it I don't care anymore. I'm tired of thinking about it. You're probably right I'm just pissed off because I've been treated like shit over and over.

Quote
I find women who dont want to sleep with me irritating, It's like, whats the point of you existing and being female if your not going to f**k me.

yeah this is bullshit and not what I was talking about. I'm very successful for my age and where I come from and what I've been through. I drive a $42,000 car and own my own place I just filled with expensive ass shit and use everything I have left to raise my now 17 year old brother and moved the other one in with me to help him too.  I actually don't get around alot sexually on purpose because I don't want to end up with the kind of people I've ended up with. I don't even care about that shit on the level that a regular person does and I've had women throw themselves at me but they usually aren't the good kind of people I'm looking for.

I actually have to avoid eye contact with alot of people and kind of speed walk when I go out sometimes because I just don't want to mess with anyone I don't know because I'm very cautious like that. I'm not saying everytime I go outside I have some girl hollering at me but it does happen, its probably mostly because of my car though.

I cannot stand people that don't take into account their actions and how they effect others and live for basic impulses regardless of the outcome. Thats what I mean. If you can't understand that then I dunno what to tell you. Those are whores to me. Thats what I mean. Yeah its my own definition I guess but I can't find a closer word to fit it? They could come from high class, talented, highly educated. If they're bad people that step on others without regard thats how I feel.

I'm trying not to be so jaded and my opinion will probably change with time.

No its just the way I deal with shit I'm going through. I pretty much keep going over shit that has happened to me in my head and I can only do two things; get angry (motivated) or sad and feel like shit. I got to prove something to myself so I constantly ridicule myself if I fuck something up or fail at something or think I need to improve but I think its a good thing because it makes me a better person. I'm a little proud of myself if I know I'm doing good which grates some people, I try to not put claim on it too much or talk about what I got but I'm not going to be too humble about it either. I earned what I got. I just go over shit like that in my head too much but thats because I'm in a place where I have nothing to do but think. I think thats why I need ADHD medicine to slow it down when I get like that.

Wasn't hemphknight some asshat who went to a hotel to lose his virginity and posed with a katana and talked about wearing polos to the club and all the mad coochie he got and fucking peeps up?

yeah I don't do that. There is being proud and being a vein asshole, I don't rub shit I got or do in anyones face unless they disrespect me and then I will tell them how much better I think I am than them unless of course I do not think that (which does happen). Steel would piss me off and call me an asshole all the time but I never thought I was better than him because I will never be. He was just one of those people.

I don't know if its a southern thing or not. But sometimes you get the kind of people who it doesn't matter where they are or what they're doing if they see someone treating another person shittily or being a fucking asshole, they set them straight. Physically if not verbally. I don't think I'm the strongest dude in the world but I want to try to be. I know society doesn't really allow those kinds of people anymore but I'm trying my best to be one of them anyways. I don't know if anyone can understand that. I'm not talking about one of those guys that just walks into the middle of an argument like; "HEY BRAH...COOL DOWN!" either i'm talking about a person that lives through his convictions and is willing to put himself in an unruly situation because of that. Regardless of what happens. I'm not worried about living long I'm worried about living happy.

Like an example of "bettering myself" is I used to be afraid of heights and did not like it at all. And when I got here I still didn't. I'd put myself up everytime we had to climb something or work high up until I got used to it and now I'm not worried anymore because I'm more confident about it. Same for getting in conflictive situations with other people; arguments/fights/accidents I would immediately think to run away and get away from the problem and not deal with it. I started forcing myself to stay and deal with shit like that and show domineering people that I'm not worried about them (my dad was one of them).

Not bragging but when I was a kid he used to threaten me and shove me around because I was younger/smaller than him and he'd get drunk and belligerant. Well after I started bettering myself I told dude to fuckoff like I always do and he decided to try to manhandle me (we were half joking) and I tossed his ass like a beach ball. He respected me more after that my aunt thanked me for doing it and he doesn't talk to me that way anymore.

I know it sounds like I'm talking out of my ass but I'm not, I guess you'd just have to meet me to understand that.

Example: Joey is talking to his friend tom at work about his son. "yeah, I'm trying to teach him how to throw a baseball but he keeps flinging his wrist at the end and that shit looks pretty gay."

Third person assumes that joey is a homophobic asshole because he used the word gay casually.
Nah, it just means the guy uses juvenile language and should really think twice before opening his mouth. It's still objectively a bad thing to say, though, regardless if he means well or not. But I wouldn't immediately think of him as a homophobe.

It really shouldn't be controversial to simply point out that it's a pretty offensive thing to say, without immediately being denounced as being obsessed with some vague notion of political correctness.

What you say matters to people, and it's really nothing but a simple, common courtesy to be a little mindful of others.

I think its because we come from a different up-bringing.
you don't know anything about my upbringing.
This is funny to me because a while back someone on Reddit told me I'm "too childish to consider anything other than what I was told by my gender studies professors."

Me. Who never went to college or university. (Well, I went to college for half a year to learn marketing/design stuff but that doesn't count.)

then again socceristhebest attends university iirc and that just kinda devalues the whole higher learning thing to me personally.
ahaha yes, absolutely. I've met tons of people who went to university and are complete idiots. It means nothing, really. I'm just really glad, and lucky, to do the kind of work that doesn't really require it. Tons of examples of extremely smart people who never did higher education too, I think Noam Chomsky actually didn't have any credentials whatsoever when he started working on linguistics at MIT.

What I said that you quoted doesn't have shit to do with college and it was not a reference to a college education so I dunno why you're both stroking your own dicks about it. I mean its good you're doing good but I didn't assume you went to college I thought dada did but I wasn't talking about that?

What I meant was I'm sure both of you weren't brought up in a place where 8/10 people are homophobic racists that strain slurs on a day to day basis and hearing the word fuck shit damn hell from toddler on up and being expected not to say it too. I kind of fought off the intolerance and kept the cursing though because I like using it for emphasis and I can tell if someone is listening to what I'm saying or judging me on how I say it by that and I can kind of figure out if they're worth my time or not that way. I don't just walk around slinging curse words but if I got something to say and feel its necessary or funny I do it without hesitation. Like I'm not using that to enable me but its kind of difficult when there aren't that many REAL LIFE PHYSICAL people around you that think the same way you feel like an oddball and you're doing something wrong even though it isn't.

But he's pretty hateful towards japan because of the whole affair. Dudes fifty and watches anime and says some of the most horrid shit about japan. I guess its mostly because of his kid though.

I know it sounds bad but white mexicans on tv throw me off. I'm not talking about partially white or half-white but whiiiitteeee, like middle class idaho family of four leave it to beaver white people on tv doing the news and commercials and shit in totally fluent spanish. I guess i'm just not used to seeing it. And american football with mexican commentators.

And we have a blaxican on here, he's the first blaxican I have ever seen and its kind of unusual. I know other countries have minorities like that but I've never seen that in mexico. Like, mexico/japanese/german mixes like that I just never realized would be so strange? Though I prolly shouldn't assume that because mexico and germany are kind of culturally diverse I think.

Oh and mexican tv is so fucking sexist. Its pretty hilarious in a fucked up way. Every attractive female on any infomercial/news program/sports program/soap opera is wearing practically nothing and on the news/sports/infomercials when doing anything physical the camera men close in on the ass and legs and tits all the time. I was watching some ESPN ripoff sports presentation and it went from two dudes talking about soccer or football in spanish to immediately zooming out from some chick's tits who was jumping rope to three girls in short ass boy shorts and open shirts jumping rope and talking about jumping rope or how to correctly jump rope.

Also even when the news is just showing people around different cities/beaches ect. The women are wearing practically nothing all the time ie: bikinis and boyshorts. I dunno if its a culture/climate thing or what. Thats why I want to go to mexico and actually see if they dress like that all the time.

No I was there for about seven months off an on.

Its just if you're sitting on a subway or bus or a resturaunt or bar you're usually bound to end up talking with a stranger like that especially if you're really young (I was 19 and it was me and my buddy most of the time) living and working in a foreign country and curious. Like, I'll fly around the states and stuff and I'll eventually have someone ask me about what I do or where I'm going just out of curiousity. When I was in london (I was only in london for like 11 hours) I was with my co-workers and we had several different people talking to us one was a railway operator and another british dude just sitting on the train heard us talking about looking for stuff to go see and he was telling us about shit in london.

Small talk, stuff like that. Happened in japan very few times I was there. Maybe its just the way I carried myself then compared to now though. But even if you just watch how people move around from place to place over there its very automated and non-communicative. They all are either messing with their psps/iphones/ipods and rarely talk to each other if anyone else.

I actually was watching a documentary on either japan or china (I think it was japan though) and it specifically talked about how the people are like that. I'm not trying to confuse the two but from what I understand they're both similiar like that but I haven't been to china yet. Dada would prolly know better though since he's going for tourist reasons and we were just going when we were off work to go drinking and see what we could.

I'm thinking about going to mexico on my off time in a couple months. I'm trying to go somewhere near Ciudad Del Carmen. Because if they send me back out here to work again I can fly out to work and then get them to drop me off in del carmen when I get off and then go where I want and fly myself home.

I'm thinking about one of these three places: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playa_del_Carmen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playa_del_Carmen)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holbox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holbox)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Escondido,_Oaxaca (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Escondido,_Oaxaca)

They all seem pretty cool though. Holbox seems the most interesting because there are no cars or roads there and you stay in one small hotel or some straw huts on the beach and can swim with whale sharks.

I could get a hotel in playa and then just go to holbox for the day and come back. Puerto Escondido seems cool because pretty much everything is there and it doesn't seem as expensive as cancun or acapoco would be.

I'm gonna try to get one of my friends to go with me or something or maybe I'll run into a good girl between now and then because I hate going places like that by myself. I like mexico alot though, the people are generally very friendly and outgoing, the foods good, and the women/landscape are beautiful. Plus they don't have this biased against americans like some places do. They actually seem especially friendly towards americans.

all the cool people are dropouts anyway. albert einstein dropped out of high school, kanye west dropped out of college, etc.

good thing about being an artist/designer-type is that the only thing that matters is raw talent and an impressive portfolio. believe it or not i actually get the occasional e-mail from folks who've seen my pixeljoint or tumblr accounts or even phone calls from past clients and i have to turn them down because i'm busy enough as it is. granted im still poor atm, but then i've yet to REALLY take this shit as seriously as i should.
Don't say no, just say "yes, but in two months" or something, otherwise they'll think you're actually out of the market or not very professional at running your business and organizing your time.

Well, that's not the same thing as my experience. The main difference is probably that I speak the language a little bit so whenever I go somewhere I can actually communicate with them in a meaningful way, which means they don't have to worry about having to put effort into helping someone who can't even speak. Yesterday evening I was at a takoyaki bar and had lots of fun talking to the people there.

There are stories about how if you go on a train, nobody will sit next to you even if the train's crowded. Those are just not true, at least in my case. People handing out leaflets on the street will ignore you but that's because they're told to, since foreigners don't know the language and just want a shiny leaflet, so there's not much of a point.

In some cases people actually specifically singled me out to say hello or good day. In general, I think the idea that Japan doesn't like foreigners comes from people who don't put a lot of effort into trying to fit in.

Exactly.

man, you need to give me more tips on "the biz." im not very good at this. like that one time you told me artist/designers generally charge like 10-15 euro an hour meanwhile i got paid 300 bucks for a months worth of work. im dumb as heck. *_*
It's more like 30-40, if not more. Really depends on the job though. Let me know if you ever get a professional offer, we can look at it together and devise how to respond and what to quote. This happens to a lot of starting designers and artists by the way. I bet the art colleges don't even have business lessons.
Title: Little Things that Irritate you

Yeah it was probably mostly from the language barrier. I was trying to pick up a little japanese but not hard enough and I learn faster from actually speaking to people of the language than studying it. I have to hear shit to learn it pretty much, I can read and learn but it takes me longer because I have to invision it.

But thats how the mexicans treat me, they talk to me all the time and tell me stuff about mexico and teach me spanish because I know a good bit and want to learn more.

Quote
Don't go to mexico if you don't want to get murdered. So irritating.

Nah I was talking to one of my mexican/american buddies yesterday about going to mexico because I wanted to go. He told me just stay away from any of the border towns or big port towns (towns with alot of shipping Veracruz and Alkamira pretty much) and if I go to mexico city I only have to worry about getting mugged or ripped off (I'm not going there).

I'm staying near where I'm at which is an oil town with good population of working americans like myself and near cancun which isn't dangerous at all (I've been told).

They def told me don't drive to mexico in my car or I'll get killed before I get a hundred miles in.

Thats part of not wanting to go alone though. Unless I'm pretty familiar with the place (I could still get around japan) its good to have someone else around to watch your back. I can take care of myself but I can't see behind me either.

dude's a fucking dickhead

then when I'm standing there waiting for him to come and land for two hours he flies the fuck off...I got ONE more day of this shit. Please do not come back and crash into the fucking ship or rig and kill me/delay my departure because right now both would be equally as shitty.

farren you're pretty race-oriented these days. is it cuz the folks on the ship sorta culturally self-segregate or something?
Title: Little Things that Irritate you
Post by: Farren on February 03, 2012, 09:49:53 pm
No when I say mexicans its because the pilot is literally a mexican pilot. He works for pemex the company we work for and they're notorious for being pretty shitty pilots. We have had some though that were fine but every once and awhile you get a horrible one.

I mean I like the mexicans and this might not sound good but you get half of them that are very hard workers and very outgoing/proffesional nice people and some are just stupid as fuck/annoying/don't do their jobs right.

And its not like in the states where you get some people here and there that are good or bad. Alot of them are fucking shit up on purpose because as long as they do they get to keep working out here. Company lost alot of money because of that.

I don't really know any term for distinguishing between the two types of mexicans so I just say mexicans all the time when I'm referring to mexican nationals that work here.

Its like if we went to brazil we'd get a bunch of brazilians onboard or to vietnam we got vietnamese. Its a requirement by the country we're working for or the company. We have to have so many of them onboard when we're working in their country.

Like we have mexican/americans onboard but they're refered to as americans and the gringos (like myself) as americans. The americans work for the ship and the mexicans either work for pemex or a branch of our company based in mexico. So its kind of segregated but not really? Its a work based segregation not any kind of classism or discrimination.
Title: Little Things that Irritate you
Post by: Farren on February 03, 2012, 09:53:32 pm
Sometimes there are supervisors and stuff that tell me how much its going to suck when we have to bring alot of nationals onboard though. Not because of the people themselves its just you're getting alot of people onboard and you don't know shit about them and they try to change shit/work different and it takes alot of time getting used to that.

We always work with some mexican nationals/malaysian or what have you depending where we're at, but if we're not working on certain jobs the supervisors can pick who they want and are familiar with the ones coming onboard. When you have like 150+ of em coming its hard to tell what the fuck is gonna happen.

When we went to vietnam it was actually way better though. Those people are very organized and efficient and we had alot of malaysians/indonesians onboard. The only time it sucked is when we went to shipyard and they had 500 people coming and I was supposed to be security for 500 fucking people...

That.

And also how you are only supposed to get a e-mail account once in your life, but once you do they never let you change what your e-mail address is. I don't need a second e-mail account, I just need an address that will forward to my account so that I am not embarrassed to put it on a job resume. I shouldn't have to get an entirely separate e-mail account just for that. (It's already bad enough that every possible permutation of characters that could possibly make up a normal e-mail address name are already taken, which is why I assume I have this annoying problem to start with)

Good mustard is exclusively sold in clay or glass jars. (Also: coarse mustard (http://www.biocomtout.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/265x/0dc2d03fe217f8c83829496872af24a0/m/o/moutarde-dijon-enti_re-vinaigre-delouis-233x233.jpg) is the one true mustard.)
