Title: Share your writings!
Post by: Warped655 on July 29, 2012, 10:27:17 pm
Hey, you like to write? Have anything you want to share? little bits and pieces of interesting but perhaps even unfinished work? (everything I'm sharing is unfinished, yay?) or maybe you want to read and critique others work? Maybe you have some non-story work to show, such as poems, articles, etc that you wrote and would like to share? Any shit you scribbled up and thought it had some semblance of merit?

All my stuff is usually some form of Sci-Fi. and much of it I wrote a while ago. This is actually because I don't write as often as I should because I actually really enjoy writing but usually just never think to do it for some reason or just never get around to it.

(I made this topic in Ed's GlitchWorks a while back, only got one other person to post, theodolite, you can see the story I posted and the one he posted at http://www.glitchworks.net/f/index.php/topic,58.msg583.html#msg583 (http://www.glitchworks.net/f/index.php/topic,58.msg583.html#msg583) )

If you want to read the unfinished story section I posted, you can go to the Google Docs page I published (https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1mHW2vjS46uN56LmTjh2bEKObR8veZlPIVsjz3mlIWWs) instead of the above link if you prefer.

I'm just going to link to the stories as published Google Doc works so as to avoid clutter:

A writing project I did for class that I did about about 2 years back:

Backstory (https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1_d1iuN61bscbbrG8lN6cgA1df-iClPGEAJyq5BTSps0)
Initial Character Concept (https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1qW6XS-LvGLix8Y-keO_o8so_zBMx01HxIafzWOScs6U)
The Setting (https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1BMLL8j17Ih09OCjLqSRzGvgRcO6cAplHvp7W0cNlQDU)

There was a Forth part that I lost that was arguably the best part, it was turned in as a "final" with the above 3 parts edited together to read much better but I foolishly never uploaded to Google Docs and it was lost, Along with another short story I wrote that I was a lot more proud of. I wrote this stuff kind of hastily because they were class assignments and I was a procrastinator. So they really benefited from the editing that I did. Oh well. Guess this sets the bar kind of low, so seriously post anything!

The most recent thing I've written (https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1OlkCiItIukBGhGI0W5adOhAhEawchteYajhBnGQ3KKM) I was waiting to get my HDD's so I could do more than just surf the net and word process. Since I got sick of just wasting time on the internet I figured I'd actually use it to word process. I actually used a random word generator to get some ideas and creative juices flowing and just stuck with the first word I got "Disciple" and then threw in any other ideas that sort of flowed from that word. I also posted this on IRC and noticed that no one commented. Which makes sense I suppose since most of the people on IRC aren't likely to stick around and do any article length reading. Or maybe they just didn't give a fuck or thought it sucked and held back saying so. Who knows.

This is a dumb sci-fi horror story (https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=10oWCZJa8NCe190g2LAGcLZ19EJV00bjpivi2epzh-40) and its the longest single piece that I've written because I actually thought I'd have the patience to write a novel length story. (HAHA NOPE) It also kind of does a poor job of explaining the context and setting to a degree, the dialogue is awkward, and since its so long (slightly less than 8000 words) feel free to skip it (though you should feel free to skip all of these bits of writing obviously)

And finally, about a year ago I was bored again and wrote this set of character concepts for an alternate version of Snow White (https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1xoQzLGGwUV4fawcPrXERA5VdAtPnWpJ72f1gKfWUHzw) I was planning on doing something with a bunch of disney Characters and rewriting their back stories but eventually thought the idea has already kind of been done and its to close to fan fiction for comfort. (Not that I actually dislike all fan fiction, its just usually looked down upon for some reason, if you have fan fiction post it, I'll probably read it.) (EDIT: Just letting you know I also sort of planned on maybe doing some sort of roleplaying with this stuff, thus the "abilities" part of every character description)

So, there are a few other things that I've written that either never even got any written parts (as in it was just a general 'story order' that I never got around to fleshing out) and stuff that I've lost to dying HDD's and not backing them up.

If you have got anything to post PLEASE DO! I want to read what Salt has to offer. It doesn't have to be fiction, that's just what I like to write. Maybe you have a BLOG or substantial twitter even?

Tell your writing friends! (Hundley, lol)

Here's something quick I wrote the other night. It is the cold open for a new story I'm staring.

I'm starting to write a novel, still in the planing stage, some my characters and ideas will be hard to put into text, but I think it's doable. The only thing I could post that would have any relevence also contains BIG spoilers, I could post it but... I could just post info about the setting

As the planet was coming apart Humanity decided to try and fix what happened by adding regulators (see Machine Gods) to regulate the movement of the continents, Grigori (see watchers) who would ensure development of the races on the planet would develop properly and ensure that any problems were dealt with and there gift to the races, spaceships left in orbit containing creation engines (see Creation engines). Sorry it took me so long to get around to reading this. This was pretty good IMO! Hope you continue. Noticed that you put a lot of effort into describing the car's performance which was a little interesting.

Thank you for giving it a look!

With this story, I'm trying to weave as much real life experience into the plot as possible. During my time with the dealership and the used car lot, I had a lot of opportunities to drive various cars and trucks. I was always thinking about how to work things I did/noticed into a story.

I've never had to cover up a murder or bribe a city council man, but I figure if I pump enough reality into the rest of the story it will help carry the bits I'm just pulling out of thin air.

I am planning to continue, and actually have a couple more sections roughed out. I have the characters and high points of the story mapped out on index cards, all I need is the free time to stitch it all together.
