GW isn't just about game creators, writers or artists, there are a few people who like to play around with filmmaking. In this topic you can find the films created by fellow GW members, share your thoughts and constructive criticism on them and ultimately keep the small GW filmmaking community alive.

This is the revamped Film Thread, the layout has changed slightly (easier to access different films without loading them all at the same time) and with new films to view (neatly marked with a bold red NEW sign).

Want to get your film in the list?
Create a topic for your film project in the Film Media forum for people to offer their constructive criticism, and we'll put it in the list! It's that simple. Good luck.

This is a pretty good topic.

I liked Comix's movie, even if it was set up a little cheesily. I'll have to watch the others soon!

ahahaha Raziel your movie is so great. perfect. i wasn't too fond of the crawler music though, it kind of broke the chapman down too quickly. perhaps a joplin-like piano redition of it would be good. if you could get any music majors at your school to do that.

okki i very much love those transitions from hand close up to zooming out of the hand then being in a different place. it works well.

psyburns' is  too long for me to watch now, i gotta get back to work.

I would've naturally verbal warned you for that Psyburn, but since I'm a peace loving hippy now who doesn't warn anybody because that would be wrong, I'll let it pass.

But yeah, I was hoping this topic would kick start people taking notice of GW's Filmmakers, but it pretty much failed to do that apart from a few comments on Comix's videos. I find it pretty depressing that noone is really taking any notice.

Alright I saw Psyburn's two movies and now time for commenting.

Rap Battle 2000 is pretty awesome in its strange way. The actors don't take the film seriously, the storyline is just wack. But the films seems quite downbeat and "serious" this makes for an interesting and sometimes hilarious combination. Other than that I'm not sure I can say much good about it and Psyburn is right in saying that it's "shitty". It could be youtube messing it up but a lot of the cutting seems pretty choppy.

But anyway on to the other one. Last Laugh of a Dead Man looks pretty nice. The lighting and cutting is miles beyond Rap Battle (it's probably good to see rap battle first and then Last Laugh) and overall it's a nice moody piece. I for one like the CGI-ish effect on. It makes it look... well it makes it look CGI, which adds another part to the film.

I'd like to comment more but I honestly don't know what to say. But I'll edit this post to add in the rest of the films in this thread later. Because I'll get to watching them all.

Now I watch the rest, in this order pretty much:

Now Mr. Astma is my kind of film. Short and to the point. Commercials are obviously the best thing there is. All that was missing was a logo at the end with a price or perhaps a phone number to call.

Stop Motion (first attempt), I really liked it for the most part but in some places the camera was just that tiny bit too shaky for anyone really to see what was going on. But in the places where it worked, it worked very well and i can't really imagine what kind of work it really is to do stop motion. It must be hell...

Le Buisson du Grand Zor, this is probably my favorite so far. I have thing for hor... ehrm, for silent movies and this one worked really well. In fact I think I have to see it again right now. The movements are just the right kind of overdone and for once the acting is pretty decent for one of these films. (Although doing acting silently is usually easier than actually saying anything. Or so it seems) Doublepluspoints for the credits, a fine way to end a fine short.

Mort opened quite nice but kinda went donwhill from there. The storyline seemed to call for panic but there really wasn't any it was just more like "yeah I'm hangin'", the sound was weird too, it seemed slightly out of sync. With more gore this film would have been awesome, but it just didn't have it. :) (gore can save any film)

In Looking glass I liked the opening and the end. The middlepart was slightly destroyed by crappy acting. The shaky pictures I didn't mind so much, except of course that it WAS assorted randomness which isn't always too great. The part with the best actin gin the film was probalby when the main character sat down and talked to that other bugger.

Now I've seen and commented on them, now I just need to make a movie myself and watch it being butchered :D I have to admit though that when you only have crappy actors it's usually best to make a comedy film that uses the crappy acting to an advantage because making serious stuff with bad actors usually isn't enjoyable.

hahaha mr. astma is hilarious.

also psyburn, your second movie is much better in terms of visuals, lighting, editing. i am not sure what the second character with the money means.

Below are the films I've managed to check so far. I'll fill in the rest later.
To Esh: The bold text is what I'd like to be used as quotes!

The Looking Glass - Nice opening credits (the camera light and shadows ruined it a bit though). The rest of the film was weird and somewhat messy.

Le Buisson du Grand Zor - The atmosphere is great. Could benifit from rougher cuts and perhaps a filter to make it appear older than it is. Nice homage!

Rap Battle 2000 - Not my cup of tea.

The Last Laugh of a Dead Man - Nice intro and camera angles for most part. Vast improvement from Rap Battle 2000.

Okay, I've finally gotten round to revamping the topic, everything is easier to access than the previous version. Plus you'll be able to watch the four new films incase you hadn't already.

Ah, sorry man. I just skimmed through the Film Media forum for topics (damn you and your edit, it just makes me curious as to what you said).

Also before the edit I had accidentally deleted like half the topic so I said OH MAN SORRY ESH but then I fixed it so it's all good.
