-
i dont think i can insult him.

-
hahaha shit i'm seeing them live that same day
-

-
yeah i live kindof near the coast
that would be excellent
-
Ask Mr Wilson if he is aware that he is an unlikely sex symbol to a lot of teenage boys. I think he'll be pleasently suprised.
-
what do you think of gaming world, mr wilson
-
CAN I HAVE A LOCKE OF YOUR HAIR!!????
But really, I dunno. Ask him why mainstream media never plays his fucking music.
-
why do you make music/what is your philosophy behind it
like what makes you get up in the morning and say to yourself ok I think we're gonna pump out another album today etc
I don't know if you want to ask that, it seems kind of standard but at the same time it might be too complicated? idk I'm just curious to see how he explains this ____

It's probably beacuse the singles that the band sends out are over 7 minutes long.
-
Then it's his fault
-
Shallow wasn't
And I swear I heard it in an interview with the band about a year before I'd even heard of PT. But I get what you're saying.

Shallow wasn't
And I swear I heard it in an interview with the band about a year before I'd even heard of PT. But I get what you're saying.
I actually heard Shallow quite a lot when Deadwing came out on one of my local stations, but I haven't heard it since (at least not within the last year, although defensively, I haven't listened to the radio much in between then either since I decked out my car's sound system). Notably though, the bridge was nearly cut out, with a few other radio edits that I forget, and it made the song considerably shorter, and definitely knocked down it's effectiveness.
Even still though, Shallow was about 4 and a half minutes long, and really a lot of radio singles are trying to be under the 3 and a half minute mark (ideally, radio stations try to keep it under 3 minutes long). Essentially what I'm trying to say, is that even though Porcupine Tree has made some "radio friendly" songs, they aren't really a band that can be considered "radio friendly," and be all around the airwaves at your local drug store. (It's not like you want to turn Steven Wilson into some teen pop idol though, right?)
-
No, I just think its terribly ridiculous that they only play the same old shit over and over again when there are alot of REALLY good notable (not just some random indie shit) bands out there, PT being one of them.
-
well well well
make sure to ask him if he's got any ideas for a new album yet.......
and when is PT going to release a collection of all the unreleased b-sides.
edit: also it would be interesting to know which has been his/their favorite show to play so far this year
yeah boring questions ; ;
-
why don't you ask some hilarious questions to break the ice?
examples:
favourite kind of goat? which milk is better: cow or goat? ever been to a farm?
bands love this kind of stuff. inteviews are so serious, sometimes it's nice to kick back with a few laughs.
-
edit: also it would be interesting to know which has been his/their favorite show to play so far this year
ask this question because it will probably be the cleveland show when gavin harrison pulled all his zany shit like making fun of 3's drummer and putting on that woman's bra
-
what's your process of naming songs?
i have one for you, "everything sweet is exceptionally bitter." no? how about "the up arrow only leads me down?"
-
where do you go to find ideas
-
seeing him tomorrow guys at five, LAST SECOND QUESTIONS?
-
Yeah I have one, what the fuck is going on here?
-
...it's pretty obvious isn't it?
I'm interviewing Porcupine Tree in like 5 hours.
did you not read the topic at all?
also happy birthday thejackyl.
-
5 HOURS.
Damnit, i can't help you with questions...
... but my FRIEND can. In fact, he is a PT fan and all, i try to contact him.
##EDIT##
Hey ho i contacted my friend he classifies this as IMPORTANT so he will be figuring out questions
edit2
HEH YOULL NEVER EVEN RELIAZE WHAT HIT YOU (hint:trains)
##EDIT 3##
Will you tell us the answers and how the interview went etc. = Give us a report about the interview, will you?
-
yeah, steve might have a recording, who knows.
-
1. How do you distribute your ideas and inspiration among your several projects, No-man, Blackfield, Porcupine Tree and so on?
Does certain kind of material you come up with identify with certain projects?
2. Through what kind of a process do your songs evolve and what's the role of the rest of Porcupine Tree in this process?
(Do you, for example, write the songs all by yourself?)
3. You've said before that in order to create something new, musicians should try to mix together styles and genres that haven't yet been mixed.
How do you see the future of music? Where are we headed and is this what we should be aiming for?
4. What kind of music do you listen to / what are your influences? What is your opinion in your own music / what is your favourite and least favourite PT album?
Bonus:
5. What kind of thoughts or feelings would hope your music to evoke in people? Do you feel there's somekind of a message in it, or is its main purpose to entertain?
all hail Markus and Guana! also this better be real or i will p*nch you in the face ned

(12:59:20) The Steve: man, we need to think up some good questions to ask steve wilson now
(12:59:27) The Steve: GW Go!
its up to you now...
-
Ramci, it used to say on the PT website that Steve Wilson gets his vocal harmonies from the Beach Boys, his favorite extreme metal band is Meshuggah, he's a fan of Radiohead. I forget the other ones but there were alot more.
You should ask him what's going on with the Michael Akerfeldt/ Mike Portnoy collaboration he was doing.
Is this interview going to be put up on the net? I wanna listen to it.
-
Is his favorite TV show King Of Queens?
-
update: Steven Wilson hates Spock's Beard, the Flower Kings, and 50 Cent, and likes De La Soul, Public Enemy, and Godspeed You Black Emperor. I talked about Chamillionaire with him and he also mentioned how much he hates the internet!
also he put me on the guest list for his show tonight.
I got a recording of the interview, although he answered some questions off mic, but I'll put it up later. no pics tho my camera is out of power!
-
Teloch where are you!!!
If you're going to the lincoln theater, let's meet faggot!
-

Yeah, doesn't he pretty much hate ALL prog except for like Marillion?
Edit: for the record I am using prog as like a generic term here.

interesting that he lumps De La Soul, Public Enemy and Godspeed You! Black Emperor together
but yeah I cant wait to hear this

no, he likes Genesis, King Crimson, 3 for some fucking reason, and I think he mentioned a few local groups that he liked. he liked the notion of PROGRESSION, really.
anyways that was tight as hell. because of our guest list, we got to skip the line that went all the way down the back and get in front.
3 was okay. I don't like them at all really, I think the singer is shit, the lyrics are hokey, and it's all way too Coheed, but live, they really are sharper.
PT is just...fucking...tight.
there is no way to describe how COHESIVE the band was. they played everything off Fear of a Blank Planet, plus almost all their big songs except for Radioactive Toy and Trains.
this was really good and I'm glad I went, and I might have even paid the 15/20 bucks for it!
also fuck you teloch, did you see me? I was in front in the bright orange shirt, and one of two minorities (the other one, not the fat black guy).
-
edit: ugh I dont know how to use internet
-
Now that you mention about the differences of mp3 compression,
glad to hear it went well. Also upload both report and the recorded interview if you could.
DO THIS AND THIS NEXT .AFTER THAT YOU SHOULD etc
-
EVERYONE loves Public Enemy.
-
mewantstheinterview, it sounds interesting.
they played everything off Fear of a Blank Planet, plus almost all their big songs except for Radioactive Toy and Trains.
Did PT play Arriving Somewhere as well? They haven't played it so far this year and since I haven't seen PT yet, I was hoping they'd play it in Finland plus they have changed their setlist for every new gig. I also hope they'll play Normal in Finland because seriously, that's one of my favorite PT songs already, easily.
Come December 15th, come....... ; ;
EDIT: Fuck yes, they played .3! They should play that in Finland too.
-
they played (not in this order at all)
fear of a blank planet
my ashes
anesthetize
way out of here
sleep together
cheating the polygraph
what happens now?
blackest eyes
the sound of muzak
.3
halo
lazarus
open car
shesmovedon
dark matter
they might've played like one or two others i don't remember (everything after anesthetize is a blur). they were EXCELLENT though; everything was really really solid and just amazing.
also steel if it were not for the throngs of fat hippies and stoners i probably would've seen you! oh well. maybe some other time.
-
yeah man! I don't know why you were looking for Steve since everyone there looked like him! I saw you like fifty times I guess if you were near the black guy because I remember counting the minorities at least three times and coming up with YEAH TWO PEOPLE.
-
why do you make music/what is your philosophy behind it
like what makes you get up in the morning and say to yourself ok I think we're gonna pump out another album today etc

he answered your question btw

(18:14:07) Maverick: fuck yeah
-
interview starts at about 9:50 or so; also posting again because for some odd reason this topic isn't showing up in LAST POSTED so I just...spam...
-
Thanks for the link, that was a really interesting interview.
-
Was he a nice guy and happy to be there?
-
hey steel have you interviewed any other celebrities?
-
Was he a nice guy and happy to be there?
pretty nice and I had to buy him water so I hope he was happy???
THAT BOTTLE OF WATER WAS ONE DOLLAR STEVEN WILSON YOU BETTER PUT ME ON THE GUEST LIST.
hey steel have you interviewed any other celebrities?
other than local guys, no, but Steve's interviewed Marillion over the phone; by the time I got it, the topic had fallen off the front page though!
-
i'm going to see them the 29th. anyone else gonna be there.
Also, i'm bringing a friend who is very new to porcupine tree. He only has fear of a blank planet. I'd like to give him a crash course in what they'll play, so what should i recommend him?
-
they'll play almost all of fear of a blank planet.
don't bother with anything before In Absentia since they don't play anything other than Dark Matter, Shesmovedon, and Radioactive Toy (and they haven't played Toy this whole tour). Deadwing is a good idea.

Not exactly true, they have played other older songs on this tour too. At least Hatesong, Even Less and A Smart Kid. And on their last tour they also played some older songs like Buying New Soul and Don't Hate Me. Their setlist is changing for every gig they play so they'll probably play some other older songs as well. Though I agree that giving him old PT albums doesn't really give a good picture of what they are mostly playing on this tour. That's why I recommend both In Absentia and Deadwing.
This might help you, it shows what PT has played so far and how many times:
11 Fear Of A Blank Planet
11 Anesthetize
11 Way Out Of Here
11 Sleep Together
11 What Happens Now?
11 Halo
11 Open Car
11 Blackest Eyes
11 The Sound Of Muzak
11 Dark Matter
10 Lazarus
8 Cheating The Polygraph
6 Nil Recurring
6 A Smart Kid
5 My Ashes
4 Even Less
4 Trains
4 Half Light
3 Drown With Me
2 Shesmovedon
2 Sentimental
1 Mellotron Scratch
1 .3
1 Hatesong
And nope, I didn't make it. :tsk:
-
I stand corrected! I just knew they don't like playing older stuff much.
-
Thank you very much for the help. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to go. It's terribly depressing.
