it's finally aired, and the first episode is subbed.
other than the japanese people trying to pronounce english words, this series is looking really good so far
-
What station does it air on?
-
A japanese station....
Anyway I was excited for another gundam series until I saw the mech designs..... which look really boring.
-
i'll wait until a few episodes are out before i start watching this but i hope it will be good. =)
-
I hear that it's actually a lot better than SEED, and is based around current events to a certain extent--the opening situation involves a holy war in the middle east, and it's set in the 2300s AD, rather than a made up timeline, so it sounds like it hits a lot closer to home than the others.
I almost never download Gundam series, but I might actually go for this one. It sounds interesting.
-
hmmm i have to admit the mecha in this look pretty generic and done before but ill give it a chance before i make my decision.

It _IS_ Gundam, you know?
Also, well... My brother saw the first ep and I'm not sure if want. I am not really attracted to it at all... I've kinda lost all hope in Gundam shows.
-
I know but then i've never actually watched a gundam anime before save fore a random movie and episode, partly becuase i don't even know where to begin.

Watch 8th MS team, it's the best Gundam IMO. It's also short (12 eps) and does not require much knowledge of the franchise.

There is also the first Gundam. Its a older anime and looks dated, but its still good. Besides Seed and Wing were just remakes of it. Also after you see the first one you can get what is going on in Counter Attack which is one of the best Gundam Movies. Wing is either a like it or love it kind of deal. You have 0083 which is also good. Seed is ify at best. I want that guy in the 2nd Seed to die so MUCH!
Don't watch G Gundam...... its not really Gundam.

No, but it is possibly the best entry in the Gundam series!
Although it's only good in the sense that Ed Wood movies are good. I mean it is highly entertaining, just not for the reasons that the creators were intending. For one thing, it's the most racist thing I've ever seen. For another thing: Sailor Moon Gundam.

sounfs like a car lols any way ill go and have a look, does it look like robotech by any chance? (as in style of animation)
-
Basically, in that it has that whole "70/80's patina." It's just called "Mobile Suit Gundam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Suit_Gundam)." No numbers, no subtitle.
-
I'm a Gundam fan, so it's not fair that I say this is a BADASS series. But, from the first episode it really diverges from the common plotline. No Gundams are stolen. No Gundams actively go to "war." The characters are not pansies who have no clue about war and don't want to fight.
In a sense, it feels like the characters are already fairly headstrong from prior events, so you don't have to worry about character-evolution (although, I expect we'll see the characters change, but not to the point where you turn from pacifist -> warrior -> pacifist warrior -> crazy murderer -> savior of mankind). I think it'll remove a lot of the drama.
The dialogue is a little dry just yet. But it was the first episode and I'm pretty pleased with it. It has more of a BattleTech kind of feel to it. And despite other claims, I really like the designs of the Gundams themselves. Most of them are based on designs from other series. you have a transforming one that could be something like Aegis/Wing/Wing Zero/Savior/etc. You have the heavy-decked Gundam that looks like it ate too much ala 0083's model and Destroy. You have the Sniper which is pretty reminiscent of Buster from SEED. Then you have the generic hero one that for some reason or another, primarily uses weapons. Basically the middle grade. The Gundams remind me a bit of Turn-A Gundam, mixed with something else.
Will definitely be following this one. May take a few more episodes before it gets addicting. But I can reasonably say that I ENJOY this series without feeling addicted (whereas Gundam SEED/DESTINY it was an OMG! THAT'S IT?! WHAT HAPPENS?!). Either that or I've grown up. I don't know anymore, but I am getting old.

i liked the pretty sparkles that come from the gundams in hd they were very pretty
-
Hah, I wanted to open a topic about this but I thought it would be unpopular.
Anyway, I liked it. Not the best thing happened to the franchise, but it is indeed promising. The enemy mech designs are awesome, and the main gundams are somewhat original, but truth be told I never really liked gundams in any series, I'm more into the villains. What I hated about the show are the weird tranny characters like the 4th gundam pilot and the guy with the girly ponytail at the demonstration. I don't get it why do the japanese think they are cool. The animation was smooth, the colors were ok, it's pretty solid. I have faith in this show.
Besides Seed and Wing were just remakes of it.
No, seed was a shitty remake of the original, wing actually had a PLOT
you have a transforming one that could be something like Aegis/Wing/Wing Zero/Savior/etc.
you do know that the first transformer gundam was Zeta, right?
Also gentlemen, don't tell me the dynames(green sniper gundam) wasn't awesome with that sensor thing.
-
sounfs like a car lols any way ill go and have a look, does it look like robotech by any chance? (as in style of animation)
Seriously Mobile Suit Gundam is pretty dumb (The original one)
The story is pretty decent but the characters (Most) are really shitty except for some bad guys and the drawings are truly HIDEOUS.
0083 is good too but I prefer 8th MS Team because Kou Uraki < Shiro Amada. There's no contest there.
-
Yeah Kou is like the dumbest pilot ever.
By the way swordfish if you want to be a gundam fan, here are my advices:
watch something standalone if you can't tolerate old animation, like Gundam Wing or Gundam X. These have nothing to do with the original storyline but they are good for starters, in my opinion.
But if you consider yourself HARDCORE, here is the original storyline:
-Mobile Suit Gundam (takes place in UC calendar 0078)
It's actually not that bad, but, well it's kinda old and is really hard to enjoy properly. I think you should watch the movie triology and not the TV series.
-Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (UC 0087)
This is pretty good, and it also has a 3-movie compilation(with brand new animation and stuff). But I think you can go with the tv series here.
-Mobile Suit Gundam Double Zeta (UC 0088 I guess)
This is actually pretty shit, don't watch it. You don't have to.
-Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's counterattack ( UC0093)
This is awesome, and is just a movie so you can watch it easily.
So this is the original storyline, featuring the same characters. There are 3 OVA sidestories as well, named MS Gundam 0080, MS Gundam 0083, and the 08th MS Team. You can watch these too, the animation and the story is pretty decent, and they are only 6-13 episodes long. Though they have nothing to do with the original characters, the story is placed in the same universe and history, but somewhere else.
And lastly there are two more UC universe shows, Victory Gundam(TV series) and Gundam f91(Movie). They also have nothing to do with the original storyline, but you can watch these if you want.
The rest, Gundam Wing, G Gundam, Gundam Seed, Gundam 00, Turn A Gundam, Gundam X are alternate universe series, they are placed in totally different universes with different characters and so on.
Here you can find some detailed info:

Is it me or is 00 turning into a very Gundam Wing-esque anime? I mean, it's almost like the Gundam team is similar to the one from that, and their purpose seems to be something like what Miliardo was trying to do by the end of Wing...
Just a thought.

If this Gundam series fails as hard as GSD did... I will create a doomsday machine and destroy the world... seriously.
I was highly disappointed with GS and GSD and how Kira Yamato became Jesus and totally diverted from what could have been an awesome series... but no, Kira had to be a fucking faggot and refuse to die and then took over the final half of the series while the rest of the characters turned into whiny bitches... It fills me with murderous rage.

Yeah I had the same feeling, and the first episode was quite similar to wing's first ep.

Ok so I'll give this a try because of some of the mentioned points here. I was never really a gundam fan. However, I always admired it in some way. Like... It would get me interested, and then I would lose interest again after awhile. The fighting scenes can be incredible too. One of the main reasons why I never like gundam is because I lose interest in it overtime, I find myself getting lost in the plot. Infact, even watching episodes back to back, the plot really got boring to me pretty damn quickly.
Why?
Because generally, there are way too many fucking characters and organizations battling each other. Random characters appear and leave a lot of times. Now I'm not an infant or anything, I can comprehend even the most complex plotlines. It's just that this series, in general, has a horrible way of introducing characters and gives too many minute details. I don't think it makes the story richer, I think it just complicates things.
Anyways I've watched...
Gundam Wing - about 40 episodes? I actually think this was pretty good, I never finished it though. The pacing was alright, probably my favourite out of all of them.
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: like 4 episodes... It was ok but it seemed a little to old for my taste
After War Gundam X: They weren't taking themselves too serious with this gundam. I kinda like the main character. I don't remember where I stopped in this one.
Gundam Seed: Ok, I watched 49 of th 53 (I think?) episodes and was like quiet. Like, I had no thoughts at all. Then after watching the 50th episode, I quietly told myself I would never watch another gundam series ever again. I have no clue why I watched so many episodes seriously. This emo shit was the worst thing that happen to gundam. The animation was great, and the artwork (which I don't ever want to see again) was ok at the time.
Gundam Destiny: LMAO, after watching the first episode I knew where the rest of the series was going. Right away they stole the same shitty initial plotlines of the other gundams. I couldn't keep track of the characters ONCE AGAIN. The artwork is done by the same fucking group I've seen that did Seed and a lot of NEW series airing around the same time. Did I mention the pacing was horrible? I've watched enough anime to know what I would be interested in before I even watch it. I still give a few series a try here and there but I usually don't bother trying something I know I won't like.
-
Still pretty impressed after episode 2. MAHQ is only giving the episodes 3.5/5. Not a bad score, but not a super-good score either. Plus, nobody has any right to really trust critics too much.
Can't wait to see where this anime starts going.

This show is pretty good! I saw the first 2 when does the translation usually release?
-
It is isn't it?
I like the pace they're going at. The only thing that SORT of annoyed me was the gundam group constant reminder of their objective.
-
Episode 3 was great, I want episode 4!
-
Yeah good episode, though the cliffhanger from ep2 was really meaningless.
Also, guys, which translator group is the best for gundam00? Because the one I trusted(Nyoro~subs] is really bad, they misunderstood like half of the show. Also they include various gay comments.
-
Gundam X was my favourite gundam anime. then wing and then seed/destiny. i didnt really like the sidestory gundam animes though. ill be watching this soon

I like Mendoi, it isn't too bad.
I think the opening for this show is really cool. I also really liked episode 3, can't wait for episode 4!
-
This show is starting to get really really interesting. I cant help but love the mech designs each time I see them, there's just something natural about the Other mech designs that are not associated with the Celestial Being.
-
Anyone still watching this? It getting pretty interesting!
I think Setsuna has a very HIGH chance of getting pizownd by the Trinitys if he gets no help from the other guys
-
Ya I'm watching every release of this series. This series is, or is one of the best anime series that came out this year.
I still have faith in EXIA!!!!!!! These new gundams lost all their charm for me too. Also, that bitch trinity girl better die and very fast! I don't want to witness some sob story about why she is so cold hearted later, just a quick death for her. Louise is one of my fav characters, damn you!
Also, Graham all the way man. I'm just waiting until they finally give him some unit he can work with.
-

considering he is kicking every gundam's ass that he has fought so far, I think he is fine lmao
also yeah, I have been watching it ever week, this is up there with my favorites animes
-
Holy crap. I really want to watch episode 18. I heard something about Louise... But I don't wanna watch until I get the translation from Menclave!

Trans-Am = Win.
I'm liking this one better than wing.
And Macubex it looks like Graham is getting a GN Drive on his flag! I just hope he realizes that all Gundams aren't created equal.

I am wondering if the other gundam's get similar systems
also His flag was up to par with speed on exia before the trans-am came in, so maybe the flag with the fake gn drive might give him an EVEN MORE BIG SPEED BOOST. Then all that is left is the G Forces, and somehow I am going to bet the GN Particles can get rid of the G Forces' effect on his body
-
That;s messed up how they killed off Lockon... he was one of the coolest characters; I hope that for some weird reason he didnt die but I doubt it.
-
I just want to say this series is awesome. It's going to be a long 6 months to wait for the second season.
-
About the last episode... HOLY SHIT! 6 Moths is gonna be a LONG ass wait! Good thing Code Geass is back on the 6th!!
-
man the part where setsuna is drifting and the princess is reading his letter was awesome.
-

The awesome part was Tieria and Louise at the end in the 4 yrs later thingy.

Haven't you heard? It's not him. It's already confirmed by the director, also some of the crazy fans translated the credits list and they found a new voice actor for a new character, and that must be HER. That's right, she is a woman called Regene Legetta.

Wait, WHAT?
So all of the old miesters are gone?
-
I think Setsuna is fine, Allelujah as well. I'M not sure about Trieria but I guess they just need to reboot him or something.

Lockon...
-
I think Lockon survived. I think they're going to pull a Trowa with him. Even though he was super close and basically could have died really easy, I think they'll bring him back, maybe. Of course, he could be a Hughes character. The director is the same guy who did FMA -- so I wouldn't be surprised.
Anyone interested in the 00 Gundam? And does anyone know who's going to pilot it? I mean, I think the design of it makes it pretty obvious. So he's gotta be alive still. :P
But seriously, I bet pretty much everyone survived of the Meisters. They're just leaving it out in the open. I also think that Aeolia is still alive too. Maybe he was hidden somewhere and left a dummy to be shot. Either that or Ribbons is some kind of arbiter for Aeolia and he was never meant to live. Or an AI that went crazy and has his own agenda now.
Holy crap. Awesome episodes though. Curious to see if Maria and Setsuna have a Heero/Relena relationship -- but better.
--Terin
-
I was pretty sure Heero was gay (In the Japanese version).
-
I loved watching Gundam 00. I started watching when they were right around ep 22. The end really made me excited about the second season. Livonze/Ribbons always seemed suspicious to me.
Anyone got any ideas about Tieria? I mean the show seems to suggest he isn't human.

Lockon was blasted in the face by a giant explosion
Tieria Said hey im gonna go see u now lockon and released his gn drive
Aeolia is like 100 years old, he wasnt alive as it was, did you even watch the show
if anyone who died came back to life at any point(except tieria, he has a chance i guess to be alive) then I will stop watching
I gotta say though 23/24 were better than 25, until the epilogue
-
Aeolia was in suspended animation. did *you* watch the show? And plus, it was more like 200 years old -- he was around in 2100 when he was making his contributions.
And yes, I know they killed Lockon, but they also "killed" Trowa in Gundam Wing (at the same point in time, if I recall right -- right before the end of the first season), which is somewhat where this series was started off of. They didn't show much more about him, other than that he floated off. They also "killed" everyone else. So who's to say his death is just the same? If Graham is coming back, I don't see why he can't. Tieria is more than likely back, but with some new "programming." Even if the voice changed, maybe they just flipped a switch to make him a girl. If he's a robot or whatever, it's not like him disconnecting his GN drive and floating in space is going to kill him. More likely, they'll just recover his body later and say, "Hmmm, ok, let's make him a girl. He looked like one anyway."
--Terin
-
Why are you comparing this show to gundam wing? It doesn't matter what happened in there because this show is not made by the same people. In fact, the director and the storywriter of this series seems to be enjoying breaking the typical gundam formula. Also, Trowa was never listed on the official site with the label KILLED IN ACTION.
Also, Graham wasn't floating in the space in a torn spacesuit and he didn't get a 9 minutes long epic farewell death scene. Face it, Lockon is dead. I liked him as well, but let him go man.
then I will stop watching
Agreed. I like the show so far but if they start turn it into shit then fuck them :fogetcool:

your dumb
he was dead
thats it, I dont care how frozen he is, i see cows frozen does that mean they are alive?????
Also, comparing 00 to wing is stupid, the only way they are alike is when they had a few SUPER POWERED SUITS AT THE BEGINNIN

The truth is that Aeloia wanted to resurrect himself after the world unites. But he got few bullets in the face instead.
