Title: Folklore

Folklore is an action/adventure/rpg exclusively for the PS3 and it is good!

The main point of the game is basically collecting Folks and advancing the story.

The gameplay is pretty awesome after the prologue when you can get more Folk Ids and gain new powers.

The Folk are basically the enemies you fight, when your in combat the Folks ID will pop out red that means hold R1 and flick the sixaxis controller upward... this is honestly THE BEST use of the sixaxis controller that I've witnessed so far, it actually adds to the gameplay without being obtrusive or feeling uneeded.  I cannot picture playing this game without it.

And the more of the single Folk you absorb the stronger the folk power gets.

The graphics are not the best ever but that doesnt stop the game from being beautiful. The way the art style is reminds me of a 3D Odin Sphere. The game looks amazing.

Sadly this excellent game will prolly be looked over by most gamers because it doesnt have alot of hype or publicity and also because its on the PS3.

If you have a PS3 or are planning to get one in the future this game comes HIGHLY recommended.

The graphics and shit drew me in but I know next to nothing about the gameplay except LOL ACTION RPG.  Still, I made a point for this to be the first PS3 game I want to buy if I get the console before MGS4 or Little Big Planet so TELL ME HOW IT IS GW!

Also, the box art is butt fucking ugly.  It's completely contradictary to the in-game graphics style.  Just wanted to point this out as I'll probably make a custom box art just so I don't have to look at this shit.  Even the Japanese box art is garbage.  I want to know who they hired to do the European art because it's 30x better than both NA and JP.

I bought it but haven't gotten the chance to play it yet. The demo was pretty cool and I hear the actual game is 10 times better.

I was never too interested in Folklore until just this morning when I watched a few videos on Gametrailers. Definitely looks really awesome, I might even pick it up today since I'm not doing anything except laundry and crap.

Yeah in the Euro boxart the guy actually looks halfway badass while on the American boxart he's like LOOK OUT SNAKE THEY'RE IN THE ELEVATOR WITH YOU ZOMG (lol otacon)

Also I like how one reviewer is like "the scenery and game world are breathtaking and magical" while another guy is like "IT'S TRIPPY". Ironically breathtaking world guy actually was alive during the 70's (yes I looked up his bio just for the sake of this sociological experiment) while the other guy I dunno but he's probably some nutmuncher around my age

All I'm saying is I think this has SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF much like what the game story is pretty much about!!! If you say something is trippy to me you're saying it's obviously a product of someone's mind/fig newton of the imagination and not its own thing, which would piss me off if I made a fantasy game

But yeah I don't have a PS3 anyway

Alright, so I did buy it.. I played it for about an hour and a half, up until the first big boss.. and oh man. The whole "flicking the controller" thing to absorb a folk's Id is really great. I love doing it with the "bigger" monsters because you have to fight to absorb their Id... but that boss, he was a fucking WORK-OUT. I'm not sure if there is a connection between how weak the folk is and how easy they are to absorb, but wow. Hahaha, man.. The boss.. ............. I don't know what to say.

A WORK-OUT.

Haha, man..

EDIT: Okay, so you don't just flick the controller like a madman.. there are patterns and different ways to move the controller. Tricky stuff, and they pulled it off really well. I love how you absorb the Ids of the Volcanos in Warcadia.

I'd get this but I'm still going nuts over the Orange Box and Haze. However, it looks pretty good. I might download the demo if I get bored.

I went to buy Orange Box yesterday, and they were sold sold out.  My girlfriend grabbed this and was like, "hey you should buy this instead of that gun shooting game that you were going to get."  So I did!  I haven't played it very much but I like it so far!

Man.. Warcadia is a really drab place.. The first realm you visit is really, really fun and the boss was awesome as hell.. But Warcadia, I don't know. I haven't clicked with it yet, and the Folklore at the end is pretty damn hard, still trying to find a way to avoid this ground stomp/jump he does (one folk which puts a shield around you seems to do jack when the boss jumps).

Yeah, you're telling me.  I've only had success in dodging that wave from when it jumps by trying to get the hell out of there.  Hasn't worked well.
Can't figure out how to damage him after using on his leak, either.

But yeah!  I picked this game up a few days ago.  I'm only in Warcadia now, haven't gotten to play it much.  It's a really neat game, with some of, if not the best motion sensing controls for the PS3 (and perhaps the Wii?  Ohhohoho.) I've seen yet.

I've got a problem though -- and it was this way with Heavenly Sword too, but to a much lesser extent -- I've got an older standard def. TV, and the text in this game is tiny and blurry.  I have a really hard time reading the names, and can only read the text if I squint and strain my eyes.  I've configured the display settings to S-Video and 4:3 as well as 16:9 and no dice.  Doesn't seem to change a thing.

Do I just need to upgrade to a HD TV, or am I missing something?   :fogetshrug:

Well, I decided to save myself a couple thousand dollars and just bought a widescreen monitor instead, which is working great.

Yeah, you probably should have put your $500-$600 PS3 purchase into a large computer monitor or an HDTV.  The new consoles are really not even worth buying if you don't have a high-definition setup.

Sony published it....thats about it. They didn't make it though. So it could quite possibly jump ship to another console.

I've been keeping my eye on this, mainly because the developer is Cozy Okada, who was part of the Megaten team until about 2003. SMT won't be the same without him, but at the same time I'm glad his Monster Kingdom world is finally starting to evolve to a SMT-level atmosphere. The other Monster Kingdom games were pretty meh, but this one certainly looks to be worth buying.
