.... ?
Is this supposed to involve characters from something else?
But...Dr. Girbel has a plan to destroy them all...as always.
I don't even know what this is though.. Like, are you making an animated short film or what?

it's not short, its gonna be like 45 minutes long. if you want more info go to: http://www.presidentvicki.piczo.com and go to character pros. and it has the characters on it, It's my own series.
-
Hmmm well... exactly how are you going to do this?
I think you should just sit back and work on your skills some more, judging from that page you're not quite ready to take on something like this yet.
-
So is this an animation or what? Because if your animation is anything like what we see on the profile page I don't think anybody is going to want to watch it for 45 minutes, not to mention that is a hella-long project that will probably never see the light of day. I don't know if you've ever done any animation before but I did a little in the past and it takes a lot of time and a lot of effort and even more time and effort to make something good.

I forgot to mention IMPROVED ARTWORK! Dang, I should have put that there *edits thread* There we go. It has 30% improved artwork compared to the artwork on the site.
-
30%? Where does that number come from?? :fogetunsure:
Do you have maybe a sample of what we should expect from this??
EDIT: Ah, I see.. I don't think that even with the "improved" art it looks very interesting. In all honesty, you should probably
a) put this aside, work on your drawing much more
b) probably not try to get anyone HERE hyped, because I doubt that many would be very excited/interested
It's a good idea though, I just think it is too soon for you to attempt.

I already am practicing my skills, that isn't an inmovie pic. that was a practice I will post the digital character design pic in a minute.
I am planning on releasing this from December 20th 2007 - January 30th 2008 anyway.

Your "improved" artwork still looks very much like you slapped it together in 5 minutes in paint. It has really no concept of perspective, shading, texture, or anything at all and the project so far looks like it is kind of rounding up to be another one of those 4259725029375028375283752109 bad flash animations that are already out on the net.
-
can't anyone say good things about this?
...I'm feeling discouraged...

I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything I'm just trying to tell it how it is. I don't want to lie to you to protect your feelings or anything and have you churn out some junk. It is better for me and others to encourage you by telling you the truth, telling you how you can improve and help you rather than just saying LOOKS GREAT which is not really any help to the project at all.
-
Well you guys are saying things like "the project so far looks like it is kind of rounding up to be another one of those 4259725029375028375283752109 bad flash animations that are already out on the net.""not to mention that is a hella-long project that will probably never see the light of day." Those made me feel like crap. You could say it like this to me: "maybe you should make the sky in that first picture a little darker. and Good try!" "I hope you can get it finished eventually! bu I think that you should draw that character sketch another couple of times, to get used to drawing them, or better. Looks good. Not great but good."
That would at least let me smile at a post, and besides this is...MY FIRST TRY!
-
sorry triple post 0.O omg

sorry, triple post o.o

Well, that's the thing.. you shouldn't try making any sort of animated movie when it is your first try. Practice makes perfect. Don't just say "hey, I'm gonna make a movie!" and expect it to shape up good when you have no experience with it.
-
Okay hold on.

How can any of us say good luck we hope you get it done. If you did get it done and you did come here and say look at this that I made! I for one probably wouldn't even bother watching it. That's nothing personal it's just nothing stand-out that would make me say hey that looks amazing let me check it out.
My first number one piece of advice on improving this piece of art is to take it to the graphic arts forum, I am not an artist and I don't think many people here are so we are not really the right people to be giving you advice. Also where did 30% come from? Is that just a number you pulled out of a hat?
For what it's worth though, I'll give you advise based on what limited knowledge I do have.
Always (apparently) draw with a vanishing point. Otherwise the picture will look out of perspective, as yours does. So in photoshop or whatever you are using, set yourself a vanishing point layer and always draw to that point. The direction of all walls/lines/objects should face towards this point. I'll see if I can find you a picture for an example.
Okay the pink dot in the middle of the picture is the vanishing point. You'll notice all the wall directions and the lines of the box point towards the vanishing point. Understanding this will really help your artwork improve.
You might also want to look into light souces, colours and shades of objects change based on the direction of the light that is bouncing off them or whatever.
Also look into texture and things, Water can't be represented by a simple flat block colour and neither can sky. Especially in an animation that would have so much water/sky involved you would need to put a lot more detail into it. Think of the smaller details like the metallic texture of the ship and the texture of skin etc. Even very simple vector animations put time and effort into making things like that looks real (even when they are just cartoons.)
Lastly, People don't have round heads, round eyes, triangular mouths and white skin.
Little things like that. I hope that this post was not so jerk-like that you feel discouraged but rather, more informative in order to help you improve.

i'm almost getting the to the point i'll just quit movie making...
-
No, don't quit. What you need to do is IMPROVE before you attempt to do something like this.
It's like... I go out an buy a piano, which I don't know how to play. I practice for a few days and might be able to do Hot Cross Buns or something, and I decide to hold a concert. Would it go well? Not at all! I'd have to practice much more before I'd be good enough for a concert, obviously.
What I am saying is that you might have a good idea, but your abilities are not refined enough to pull it off yet. Practice, practice, practice!
Also nobody is telling you to quit. Be glad that the only two people to give your topic a notice were two level-headed people who try to sound supportive and not like total assholes (which is abundant at GW). Seriously, practice.. work your ass off on improving and then take a stab at it. You're not at movie-making level yet.
-
Nokoi I'm not sure why you're getting discouraged because these guys are giving you good advice! They're being friendly which is pretty rare around here. Just because they aren't saying that your project is good doesn't mean they're out to harm you or anything!
Also I take it that you're probably 11 or 12 so it's all good man. The people around here are mostly 16 to 20 something so they have more experience with this stuff. You should consider yourself pretty lucky, really. Once you're around that age you'll be much more experienced as well and you'll probably look back on this project and have a chuckle.
also sorry for this but DONGames holy shit
-

What is with this assumption? I mean I pretty much went out of my way to give you a detailed constructive criticism post which I rarely do, I don't even know why I did it, I guess I want you to improve. Nobody is trying to tell you to quit, we are just encouraging you to practice and work on some smaller projects before jumping in with FEATURE LENGTH ANIMATION project because that is probably the hardest thing you could possibly do.
-
Well your right...Production release changed to March 2008...
-
Here is some sound advice: release some short (like 5 minute) shorts to build up your skills, and then when you feel that you have a good grasp on aesthetics you should come back and work on a large project like this.
Also yea go to Graphical Arts and post shit if you want to get better at art.

Definitely this. This is a way better idea than just pushing this project back a few months--changing the release to March is not likely at all to make this project good. Try getting your feet wet and get good feedback first, THEN do a bigger project. Animation isn't something you can do without some practice.
-
I'll try to put together some 3 minute demo of the movie or something, and no. You do not want to see the trailer I made for the movie. It sucks crap. It does not have the 30% improved graphics, and there is no ANIMATION its just a bunch of still images with voices. I made the preview last year. So it sucked. So I'll put together some short related to this movie and I'll see what you think.
and when I have it up, tell me what to improve on specificly in the short, and what is good in the short.
Sound good?
BTW this short will have NO VOICES!
