Well I have two problems. Long story short I have about $350 with which to upgrade my computer to hold out another year or so before I build a new one. My biggest setback is my motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813180064). I'm looking at upgrading my video card and processor.


For my video card I've been looking at this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102071) and this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143069). I was woundering if anyone could confirm if they would actually work with my motherboard in the first place and, if they do, which would be best. I've always preferred NVIDIA but I'm open to ATI if the card is superior.

As far as processors go I'm at a loss. According to the bios upgrade here (http://driverscollection.com/?H=SL-K8TPro-939&By=Soltek) My motherboard should be able to support duel-core processors. If this is true, then would this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103053) processor be handled by my system? Any help would be appriciated.

soltek's website is completely fucked, so I can't really comment on the processor support. As for video cards, the ATI in this case performs much better according to THG's vga charts (http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=725&model2=717&chart=318).

This (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130274) nvidia card benchmarks (http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=725&model2=714&chart=318) very close to the ATI, which is better than the 7600 and it costs just as much.

I would go with the Geforce Dos Cerv posted. As for processors... I don't know what to tell ya since the soltek site and tech support is fucked. The tech support number in an old soltek mobo manual is bunk...

whats your old processor? if its around 3800+ than you won't see much improvement with the x2, even with the 4800+. i suggest you use the money to get mobo with PCIE and AM2 (if you wanna stay with amd) and an am2 processor. that way youll be set for the next videocard/cpu upgrade. I also suggest the 7600GT, its faster than the 7800GS and its only around 90$!

My current processor is a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103502). I've compared it to a laptop running Intel Core 2 due (both 2.0gHz) and it's literally 4 times faster so I was hoping to achieve the same improvement.

sadly the amd x2 series pales in comparison to intels quad and dual core series.
