Title: Getting a 360
Post by: Madolah on October 25, 2007, 11:14:40 pm
Ok. So Futureshop had a deal on and i went and got it on layaway as my BIG Xmas Present.

This is whats in the deal,
FEATURES:

    * XBOX 360 Hard Drive (20GB): 20GB and detachable, the hard drive allows gamers to store their games, music, downloaded trailers, levels, demos and community-created content from XBOX Live Marketplace and more.

    * XBOX 360 Wireless Controller: The same hassle-free high-performance precision wireless gaming that comes with the premium edition features the XBOX Guide Button for quick access to digital movies, music and games libraries as well as a range and battery life of up to 30' and 30 hours of life on two "AA" batteries.

    * XBOX 360 Headset: This heightens the XBOX Live experience by letting gamers strategize with team-mates or trash-talk opponents while playing games.

    * XBOX 360 Component HD AV Cable: Gamers can experience high-definition gaming on flat-panel TV or VGA monitors. This cable provides optimal audio and video signal transfer.

    * Forza Motorsport 2: The sequel to Microsoft Game Studios' fully-customizable driving simulator Forza Motorsport, speeds its way onto XBOX 360. Buckle up for authentic simulation physics, bone-jarring damage, and photo-realistic graphics, as well as licensed tuning and customization options.

    * Ethernet Cable, Detachable Faceplate, XBOX Live Silver All included.

    * Guitar Hero II Bundle package as an added bonus (FREE!)

And what i want with it:

    *Skate

    *Live Gold membership

    * Extra Controller

    * Charger cable thing

    * NFS: Carbon

And yeah so what games/accessories do you think i should get for this?  Please don't suggest Halo 3 cause I don't want it aas i am not a big halo fan.

Halo 3 for sure
Try to pick up Geometry wars, which is an xbox arcade game. Other than that, this is what I suggest.

-Gears of War
-Rainbow Six: Vegas
-Call of duty games
-Orange Box
-TES: Oblivion
-Condemned: Criminal Origins
-Eternal Sonata
-Perfect Dark Zero
-Bioshock
-F.E.A.R.

You did not mention your tastes and if you were a big PC gamer or not, so I just gave you a short list of what I recommend off the top of my head. There are a lot of missing I am sure, but whatever.

Bioshock
Gears of War
Rainbow Six Vegas
Viva Pinata (really, awesome game)
Dead Rising
Project Gotham Racing 4
Oblivion
Condemned
Orange Box

There are a ton more that I like, but remember these are only my suggestions, so research the games before buying them.

For Xbox Live Arcade:
Puzzle Quest
Geometry Wars
MARBLE BLAST ULTRA (BEST GAME EVER GET IT NOW)
Doom

EDIT: Perfect Dark Zero kind of sucks (single player campaign is pretty lame) and it just isn't up to par with other FPSs.

CoD3 is shit! Seriously, don't get it unless you plan on playing multiplayer. The singleplayer is awful (and I LOVED both CoD1 and 2). So yeah, this comes from a CoD fan. The 3rd one has awful singleplayer and decent multiplayer (a watered down BF42 kinda, just more CoD'ish).

I suggest NOT getting NFS: Carbon... I got it and it sucks. if you MUST get a NFS game though I go for Most Wanted (since it's older its probably cheaper) or even just wait for the next NFS to come out. I'll elaborate a tiny bit: The "team" based racing in Carbon just doesn't work well, it is actually kind of annoying, and the police chases in Most Wanted is pretty fun. The ones in carbon feel some what dull.

Anyway, I have not tried it yet, but I heard PGR4 is pretty awesome.
and Bioshock if you want a good single player FPS experience.

Rainbow Six: Vegas is a excellent choice for a Tactical FPS, I mean I don't even like many tactical FPS's but this one just kicks utter ass. (I personally think its more fun then Gears of War) The single player can be on the short side if you choose 'normal' as the difficulty for your first run., So I recommend realistic, it will lengthen you're experience if you decide to play that on you're first run.

I second the DO NOT BUY PDZ. It felt exceptionally generic and dull in the single player. although the multiplayer was still generic, it wasn't as dull.

if you're going to get any CoD wait for 4.

If you've never played nor owned Worms for PC (Like I haven't) then I Recommend Worms the Arcade game.

If you like multiplayer platforming shooters I recommend Small Arms, just don't expect to find anyone online playing it, stick to 4 player, 4 controllers offline.

The only reason I'm not recommending the orange box is because I myself have yet to play Portal and TF2, and I really think those game would probably be wiser bought for PC. In fact I don't plan on buying the Orange box at all, I'm going to buy the valve complete pack through steam once I get the cash. (Hopefully soon, but unlikely to be soon.)

Oh and I urge you to reconsider Halo 3. I did not personally like Halo 2 all that much. but 3 seems to reclaim some of the awesomeness that the original had. If you liked the original, and like multiplayer it is worth the $60.

If you want a really fun music game, get Guitar Hero II. Or you can wait about 3 days to get Guitar Hero 3 which is coming out Sunday.

GH2 is a really great game, and I'm sure GH3 will be even better.

Getting GH2 with the bundle.

I might Even dash cash and get rock band (as my buddy has GH3 ordered and ill bum it off him later on.)

I played and liked NFS:Carbon  and well the new one "pro-street" looks lack luster.
I played GoW and Graw for a short period of time and didnt like either.

Or get Boom Boom ROcket. It costs about quarter the price of GH and you can probably play it with the guitar. Better music too.

Wow - does 360 have a game that's not a FPS? (where Oblivion is a first person slicer (yeah, I'm really reaching, but I don't like the FP perspective)).

I, too, am considering a 360 for games like Mass Effect and Blue Dragon.  So, other than FPS, what games are there/are coming out?  Is Amped 3 any good?  What about C&C 3?

Or get a 360 for every other game that isn't a fps

you know, like mass effect, ninja gaiden 2, table tennis, crackdown, gta4, guitar hero 3, assassin's creed and lots of other shit.

oh and about 90% of the games on xbla are really fucking good.

See, this is what I was wondering.  I'd like to know what games you guys enjoy playing/look forward to playing on the 360, beyond the FPS genre.

Thanks Raziel.

oh well if you are looking for a list then:

Beautiful Katamari (better than Me & My Katamari and Katamari Damacy, but not as good as We <3 Katamari)
Ninja Gaiden 2
Mass Effect
Table Tennis
Assassin's Creed
Devil May Cry 4
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Puzzle Quest
Blue Dragon
Enchanted Arms (yeah it's kinda ridiculous at first but beyond its stupidity is a really really fun to play RPG)
Eternal Sonata
Ace Combat 6
Marvel Ultimated Alliance: Gold Edition (only version to have the 8 extra heroes)
Too Human
Alone in the Dark 5
Infinite Undiscovery

and yeah I could go on and on and I know not all of those are just for 360 but it's STILL AVAILABLE for it so it's not like it's not a valid point.

so yeah, the 360 is not just fps and brutal action games and shit.

A lot of those games aren't even out. They could turn out to be complete shit fests for all you know. I know Assassin's Creed will be shit. I just know it.

And Marvel Ultimate Alliance IS a shit fest.

Thanks for contributing to the topic!

Anyway if you aren't looking for FPSes a few games to get/look out for:

Devil May Cry 4
Assassin's Creed
Virtua Fighter 5
Mass Effect
Oblivion (unless you have it for PC)
skate
Splinter Cell: Double Agent (or Conviction but thats not out yet)

I would err against getting an RTS for a console, generally it is much better on the computer with a fullsize keyboard (unless it has like usb keyboard support or something)

Sooo Gears of War isn't an FPS so you should get it!

I'll recommend only one or two games, because if I make a giant fucking list of everything I like on the console it's not like you'll actually take each one into consideration.  My personal favorites:

- Blue Dragon: It's a lot better than people say it is.  I think most of the target market still swears by their PS2s, so it gets a lot of internet flak.  Pretty good and if you like jRPGs (most of GW does??) I recommend it.  It's actually pretty fun with the difficulty patch.  My girlfriend likes it too, but she has terrible taste in videogames.

- Gears of War: Because it isn't an FPS and is just incredibly, ridiculously good.  Since you're so set against it I doubt you'll ever try it, and if you did, you'd convince yourself that you hate it.  But, it's probably the best game on 360.

Lots of awesome games are coming out soon, so you have all those to choose from as well.

Anyways, games to get;
Dead Rising - This is the game I got 360 for. Zombie hack-n-slash heaven. Graphics are very impressive too, at least backgrounds are..
Halo 3 - The best console-online-shooter in my opinion. Should get even if you don't like FPS's..
