Title: How do you style your hair?

I know there were hair toics before but I didn't see any of them refering to style of hair (I just saw colours, and other crap). So how do you style your hair?

Usually I don't give pay to much attention on how to style it because I already have a few styles to choose from. Here are some of the styles I can do:

Tame looking Curls:

Think Bobby Valentino, with longer hair.

My favourite if my hair is long. There's two ways I can do it. The short way is just to apply a little water in in my hair and add a LITTLE gel and shake up my hair a bit. I only recently starting using a very small amount of gel because I always thought it was just damn gay..

The longer way is me combing my completely out into an afro and then taking a shower with a good shampoo or conditioner and then adding a little of that gay gel.

Braids:

I'm not a big fan of braids because I hate the idea of my hair being tied down. Some of my hair girls (what I call them :D​) that do my hair use their nails to make the tightest mother fucking braids in the world too. I never keep these ones f though and always made the girl start again. The braids in general look pretty cool and there is so many different ways of doing them so I can't complain. Plus you really don't have to worry about your hair at all for a little bit. I still take showers and wash my hair, surprisingly my braids still stay.

Tie back my hair:

I just comb out my hair and then use pretty much anything that can tie my hair back. I usually just use a piece of black string or yarn or something. Some of my outfits can't be worn effectively without my hair being tied back D:. I guess an example would be Shikimaru from naruto - but without the pony tail so high up (I hate that).


Haircut:

When I do cut my hair I basically just get a nice little line up and keep it low (but still black) or get a nice little fade. I didn't cut my hair for like 8 months though now. I like my selections with my hair long :D​.

Locks:

Not really locks, someone just braids my hair vertically and then let it hang. This lasts for ages and I really don't need to take of it other then keeping it clean. I do this every so often, it looks nice.

Afro:

The only time my hair is completely combed out is when I'm in my house at night time, feels really comfortable (or before I do something to it). Today was the only time in months I ever went outside with my hair completely combed out though. I got to admit it looks fucking cool, especially when I throw on my favourite shades, which are $600 Ray-Banes some girl gave me.

The whole thing looks like a Lenny Kravitz look too which is pretty damn cool ya know :fogetcool:​. It's funny people think I'm brazillian when I comb or curl my hair, weird XD. I can't complain because I know some spanish and it helps when I see some NIICE latin gals. I'm going to whip out this style more often from now on!

Just got it cut from FUCKN LONG to a bit long, so i now wear it down or tied back. Used to tie it back all the time.


I'm not really sure if you're looking for how you wear it or how you have it cut here, so just to cover all grounds it's 'layered', which is apparently a trendy thing to do with hair. I have had no experiance of such a deed untill lately though.

Lol, I have no clue what that layered stuff is about. I heard it like a million times on those lifestyle networks which has like 100 different make over shows broadcasted daily.

I noticed they always dye the peoples hair. Is that supposed to be common now?

I don't. I just...watch it grow into a mess. Hair straighteners don't work on my hair, I've tried it before and the result was awful.

Dying's pretty common. People get red, black or very blonde hair around here quite a lot, or more likely than not, dye it ginger by accident.

Straightening my hair is the only style I would never actually try. I know a lot of guys that can straighten or perm their hair and pull it off.

I just don't see it looking good on me, plus I really don't like how it looks.

For the last two years now I've just been letting my hair grow.  I wear it down.  I have tried tying it back but I don't like the way it looks, although I'm not really sure why.  Anyways, I have no idea when I'll get it cut but the length it's at right now is alright I guess.  I'll probably have some good pictures of it (possibly while wearing my Jesus costume) from the upcoming GW meet.

I keep my hair in a afro these days.  I used to have it in cornrow braids a lot but kind of held back from it because I personally didn't like wearing them at work.  I'm thinking of having my hair twisted though and hanging down; another guy I work with has his hair like that and it looks pretty neat and well done something I wouldn't mind wearing to work.

Considering my hair is extremely curly and severely susceptible to bed head, it would nice to have a style that didn't require half an hour of my time each morning to turn crap into non crap for the day.

Hey Kezay (what was your old nick again?)

How long is your Hair? Depending on how long it is you can braid it instead of twisting it. Basically have someone braid a whole bunch of strands of hair vertically from your scalp and then let it go. You'll pretty much have those locks looking things. I know what you mean about twisting it though. It takes too long just to twist it so I don't bother in the morning.

I'm not the biggest fan of braids either but I do still do them once in awhile. I don't have a career job so fuck my employers, they can deal with it.

Pretty much. i've enjoyed being a langhair for about 2  years now, so it's time to move on. it's hard to manage too, and takes a lot of effort to keep it looking alright and not like a right dragonforce scratter.

Plus, this way my kids can have a right time when they look through photobooks of my youth.

For the sake of completeness, here's my hair 3 months before i had the dreaded trim.


Now as you can see, i look like Steven Wilson gone wrong, it had to be done.

Thing is, i think every man should go through a lang phase. It's like having a beard, it's character building.

Yes, this is where I finally get some spotlight. (um...)

Anyways, my hair is relatively long, and pretty wild. So typically after washing my hair, while it's still wet I'll massage a bit of mousse into it, and blow dry it, this is good for taming frizz, and then I just spray texturizing hairspray on my hands and mess up my hair with that. I usually straighten after I blow dry it, but I'm usually way too lazy.

One thing I would recommend to people going for a textured/layered look, or for people who're looking to bring out that aspect of their hair, use products with an alcohol base. Pomades and things of that ilk are actually not very good at their jobs.

(I'm fucking faggoty as hell.)

man, im balding. the best way to style my hair is comb it in a  way so people see the least amount of bald spots possible. thats all i can do. Or I could shave it off and go bald i dunno

I have never done anyting with it. it grows for a while until i get soick of it, then it gets cut slightly shorter. it's usually longer than average I guess..?

Oh and in my morning routine it gets washed, then dried slightly... then it just driees natually. I might brush it a little later in the day.

I don't style my hair at all at the moment and it's quite the mess. Looks almost like it's growing into a mullet. I plan on getting it cut and styled this weekend into something more classy and refined.

Anyway, for how long it is?  Probably just a little over 7 inches or so; and by the by that's actually not a bad idea you suggest of just having a bunch of strands done vertically and let em go like that instead of twisting, especially since twists don't always hold their form.  Also, we're allowed to wear cornrow braids to work I'm just not a fan of cornrows anymore like I used to be, though I still wear them in on occasion.  But yeah, my mom really wants me to cut my hair and I the only way I can see myself doing that is if I end up with a career where a short trim hairstyle is mandatory.  So yeah, nuts to that!

I don't mean to be rude, Cheshire Cat, but are you male or female? I am assuming male, I think it's just that you have a very HOPEFUL look in the first picture along with bad lighting or something that makes you look a little feminine. Sorry, don't be offended :(


I have great hair. It is my most precious accessory. It's relatively long on the sides and the front right. The back is short. It's sort of like a combover, except better, and much thicker. At the right it waves out, and the left side grasps across my face, attempting to reach the right. I actually just cut it so it's a little awkward. The right barely makes it halfway across and now it's beginning to curve outward too.

Layering is when your hair is cut in layers. The top layer is the shortest, the bottom layer is the longest. So your hair is not all a uniform length. If you have medium-long hair, it's basically a must have if you want to look decent.

my hair is styled right now very short, I don't usually comb or brush it. I take a shower in the morning, and it usually stays stationary. If I need to I comb it, however, I will. I just don't really see the need to!

Yeah, I am not aiming this at anyone specifically, but if you are not king of Mount Manly it is advisable to not grow long hair and then keep ridiculously clean shaven. Like, I am pretty masculine and even I was a bit worried when I shaved my beard back when I had lady hairs.

Right now I am so fresh and also possibly so clean, and I wear my hair really short and sometimes in a mild faux hawk (which does not look nearly as gay as people seem to think it automatically does). I don't have a beard right now so I am also clean shaven. My hair is pretty boring, I have to say. I used to have it really long, and then when I got it cut I had it cut in that layered look (which, by the way, is where the hair underneath the hairs on top are a bit longer so that it looks like you individual layers of hair, rather than having them all cut to one length.

My hair kinda looks like Jim's from "The Office."  Only longer.  I don't put anything in it or really style it, it just comes out that way.  Sometimes leave in conditioner.

I used to do a caesar with hair flipped up in the front, but I changed it recently to quazi-caesar, with blonde highlights, and really short bangs, making it easier to keep the front of my hair flipped or when it grows a bit, gives it nice hanging space.

Well... not a whole lot goes into it

basically a while back I told the haircut lady to give me a cut to look like Michael from Arrested Development and I've been letting it grow out ever since. I have a natural part on the right side of my head, so I let it part there, which at the length it is now seems almost like a combover lol

i have cut my own hair for 2 years now, right now it's at a medium length. i have a natural part in the centre which I try to ignore by moving it either to the left or the right.
to style it i put conditioner on it while my hair is dry and mash my fingers through it a bit. conditioner darkens my hair a bit, like gel, but then it hardens and sets the hair into clumps.

I had the Jesus (long, flowing and fabulous) , the GI Joe (military style), the Caesar and right now I have settled on the Choir Boy (short and combed to one side). I had long hair for a couple of years and it was a real friggin pain in the ass to take care of, so I cut it. I started keeping my hair very short (military style) when I was working. After it grew back in I settled on the Caesar but have since switched to the Choir Boy because of the ease of care.

Eh, up until a week or so ago, I had not had a haircut in 2.5 years my hair was around 17 inches long. Since It was horribly uneven and kinda off looking, I had 4 inches cut off... which didnt change how it looked too much! This was thanks to the few lone hairs that were like 2 inches longer than the longest hairs!

Anyway, ever since my hair was going in my eyes when I was growing it out, I have just parted it in the middle and combed it to the side. Once it was long enough to go in a ponytail I started doing that. Mostly for practical reasons as well as the fact that my parents are ULTRA conservative and were threatening to cut my hair in my sleep!

I'll just pull my hair into a clip or a ponytail to keep it out of my face. It's naturally straight and a bitch to do much with so I let it be. When it gets long it looks really bad so I usually keep it cut just over my shoulders.

Actually, uh, yeah, you can.  That's how dreadlocks were done in the islands before they became LOLCOOL DREADLOX.  By not washing your hair for a long ass time and letting it get dirty as all fuck so it clumps together on it's own.

No it's not, from my own experience not washing your hair doesn't really make it a lot dirtier or smell bad at all.
There are some african tribes that use cow shit to style their hair, now that's something I would not do.

Now my hair is too long to do either and i cant find my electric trimmer to shave it to a 3 again so im letting it grow a tad, and ill probably break out a MOHAWK for like a week or 2,  my hair on top is about ... 2 maybe 3inches in length.


I wanna go an old skool and have a buzzcut near flat top fade out with 2 "bear claw" lines by my ear, this will come after mt mohawk :)


then ill go back to normal,  maybe dye my hair an auburnish dark brown mix and go to short fauxhawk.

Actually I'm pretty sure this is how the Rastafarians still do it (my friend goes to school with a lot of them and says they all smell really awful because they don't want to mess up their dreads)


Anyway I keep my hair medium to medium-long, usually only cut it when it starts getting in my eyes, but then I just grow it out again.

I don't really do anything to my hair - but my hair is super-straight to the point that people randomly think I'm Asian

And for some reason it's streaked without me even doing anything - people probably think I'm metrosexual or something but it's just the way my hair is :(

Guys, what is wrong with a fauxhawk? I admit that a SUPER SPIKEY GELLED UP fauxhawk can be pretty lame, but it doesn't even stand out that much if you do it right, it's like spiking your hair only in a direction.

I have a fauxhawk of sorts (it would probably be more accurate to describe it as a 'frohawk'), though I'm fairly certain that I'm about to start over with something new. One of the more annoying things about being on a campus of this size (~350 students) is that individuals are assimilated at a rather expedited rate, as evidenced by the outbreak of mohawks and fauxhawks within the last month or so. I distinctly remember being one of two people with that hairstyle before this. Oh well, individuality, like all jokes, shouldn't be taken too seriously anyway.

I'm considering the possibilty of dreadlocks now, though I'm not entirely sold on whether or not I'd look like a cunt with them or not. Only a precious few manage to avoid that. Other than that, I'm pretty conflicted. Wearing my hair short is interminably dull, and I've never been partial to rocking an afro. And, finally, I'm still not convinced that any black male should ever, ever straighten their hair. In my experience, black hair just seems to be too coarse and tightly coiled to suspend this state for very long. This may not stop me from trying again.

I know what you mean intellect. I think your hair would look good if it was just cut and lined up nicely. The thing is that shit kinda boring over time. I can see your trying to switch things up a bit.

I never quite understood Fauxhawks. I personally wouldn't do it and I agree that most people look kinda "extra" when they have their hair like that. It's kind of a weird style but I do also think that black or hispanic people look less subtle with their hair like that (depends though).

My natural hair is kind of wavy, just a bit unruly and frizzy sometimes. I also have tooonnnes of it. I generally straighten it with the straightener, which also doubles as a curler which i do if I can't be bothered washing my hair or it's a special occasion. (For some reason curling makes it look less oily)

I probably spend too much time on my hair sometimes, but I have become a bit of a hair perfectionist since having such crappy hair as a kid and being teased for it :/

Man, when you straighten it you can't even see the ends in the picture. It's pretty crazy to see when you curl it it's way higher. It must be pretty damn thick too.

I always had a longer style of hair. I kept it cut in layers and I just made sure my forehead was free of hair. Later I cutted my hair and I worked out a lot better than the long stuff. In my opinion it was too short and after it grew for a month I was happy with it. So I usually cut my hair to 2/3 cm and trie to comb it to the front. at the end I just put it up a bit and make sure it doesn't go in my eyes. I use gel, mouche and spray for this, for anyone interested. Just cheap stuff though.

it also makes her look a lot smaller, just look at all the extra space around her head in the second picture compared to the first. it's pretty crazy.

Curling does make it look a lot shorter, but those photos are a bit old. They could have been taken at different times, though i don't think they were that far apart.

At the moment my hair is a little shorter and a lot blonder :O

Also thanks for the nice comments :) It's so good being told I have nice hair now.. as apposed to boof head or flea bag =_=, eugh, kids suck!

The awesome thing about my hair is that the style completely changes depending on how much time passes between when I get out of the shower and when I brush it. (most likely has to do with how awesomely thick my hair is, combined with the fact that I only get it cut every other month)

Unfortunatley it changes back to the same style by the end of the day. Fortunatley that style is the style that I like best.

Your hair looks way better wavy than straight. It doesn't look bad at all straight, but around here almost every girl who has straight hair with highlights is pretty damn trashy, so I have a negatively skewed outlook on it!

I shave my hair down super short. It's basically a buzzcut, I guess. I just take the clippers and trim it down to about a 1/2 centimetre (or less?) every couple of weeks. I've been doing this for about 4 years. It's really the easiest hairstyle of all.

I like it because it's easy, and it means that I don't have to worry about styling my hair in the morning. Also, I used to be really vain about my hair, so keeping it short avoids any sort of stupid vanity on my part.

Plus, the ladies seem to like it.

By the by Macubex, do you know if there is a particular name for the braiding style you mentioned to me before in this thread?  Having them braided out vertically and just letting them hang?  Earlier this week I decided to get something done with my hair but the stylist had no idea what I was talking about, though she suggested if I wanted a hairstyle that allows my hair to "hang vertically" to just get comb coils and see how that goes, which I did.  Fortunately my cousin knows how to do them so I can just go to her instead of shelling out $60 every other month or so to have them redone, but look pretty nice actually and I might just go with that for a while.

I didn't used to get that either, but then I grew my hair really long and it got exceptionally annoying, so most of the time I wore it in a ponytail (except when I was in hardcore viking mood, then I wore it down). The ponytail is a very useful thing, and it doesn't look that bad unless you have greasy hair that you slick back really tight.

I was experimenting with my hair for a while.... I even grew "bangs." I would show you pix, but I look ugly in all of them... which goes to show that it was a bad hair cut for me.

I took this today!! It is fresh!!

I use a flat iron to straighten my hair (don't worry it takes like literally a minute and it's kinda fun imo) (you were worried) and I just bought some sweet new "hair glue" (? sounds gross) and hair spray from the place I got my hairs cut yesterday. The problem is, I have an hour-and-a-half commute to school and I live in a very very "moist" region of the Earth, so by the time I get to school my hair flops over and looks really ugly... so therefore I need hair spray.

Same. So I usually shave my head bald save for a goatee, or goatee+mustache combo (never just a mustache). But when I do style it... I usually go for simple fades with styled side burns (ie thin, sharp, with varying widths and shapes depending on what I want that day). Tape ups are annoying to keep up though... because to keep it consistent the sides have to be reshaped with a razor every morning, and to keep a clean fade you have to have someone touch it up every other day.... and it's too much to worry about in the mornings. I'm talking about around 30-50 minutes maintenance a day. It's all about how clean and penciled in you can make it look... and it really isn't worth it.

Fun fact: 99% of Puerto Rican males have some sort of fade. They also shape and style their eyebrows and shave their chest and backs!
