Ever since I played Xenogears,I been obsessed with this series...it was released 8 years ago and to this day I still remember everything about it...Im so obsessed with the series that I walked 10km in the rain just to get a pre-ordered copy of Xenosaga ep3,anyways I want to see if there are any Xenosaga/gears fans out here, maybe we can discuss the series and stuff!
-
I appreciate Xenogears and Xenosaga a lot! When it comes to Xenosaga, I'm a sucker for glasses girls especially Shion Uzuki. Love the Xeno-series! Love their bad-ass mechs!

Which version of Shion do you prefer? (ep1 swimsuit ftw!)
-
The episode 1 & her OAV version! I love Shion! I like Shion! That's why I made File of Mankind ZERO-1 to have my own Xeno-fangame! :-3

Xenogears is my favorite RPG. Xenosaga is great too but I haven't played episode 3 yet. Gonna buy it once I get some money.

Did you comple your game?(if yes..linkie plz!) Im thinking on making my own fan-game too,but its gonna be called "Otopian Tales"
-
My File of Mankind ZERO-1's still in its novel phase, nya! (I ripped "Tales of" and turned them into "File of" then I went Xenosaga-crazy! I nearly used every Xenosaga music I get on my tactical SRPG RM game, nya!). By the way, Shion and others would pop in my game!
-
shion was cool until episode 3, wherein she turned into a shallow and conceited bitch within a very small time considering that she was alright the rest of the series. I liked xenogears a whole helluva lot more but xenosaga was really neat too, i really liked the gnosis designs...well and the designs in general too.
one thing i noticed about xenosaga though...the characters all seemed kind of flat and boring; for kos-mos thats fine because for most of the series she didnt really have any conciousness just.....ai.
-
xenogears is probably the most insane rpg i have ever played and it really took me a while to appreciate it for what it is!
-
Xenogears = Godly Awesome
Xenosaga = Shit
Enough said.

I really liked Xenogears until I beat it. The ending cinema literally destroyed the entire game for me. Bart had the gayest voice ever. And Citan was so japanese.
Xenosaga (series) progressively got better in terms of storyline unfolding. I knew what was coming because I'd read spoilers but it still managed to keep me wrapped up for three games.

If you are going to judge a game based on the voice actors then you really wont enjoy any anime released in U.S.A....

yeah mayor boytouch watchout for animes :(
I don't like either of these games they make me so angry that I go "errrrrrrrgggggh are you weady" and bodyslam into a table.
-
I <3 Xenosaga so much. I have a poster of Shion2 on my wall.
I like how XS3 managed to tie up all the characters reasonably well. It's also one of the three games ever to make me tear up.
-
Haven't played either series (Xenogears is a series right?) due to me not liking many jRPGs but I will probably get to it at one point or another. I heard the story was pretty much incomprehensible after like the first two games or something so yea I'm not expecting too much :P
-
I'm still waiting for Episode III's release here in Europe.

Yeah, I have no idea what happened. The characters are neat, though; I played the games to play as Jr., basically.
-
i appreciate xenosagagears because it is fun to go into a chat room and say "xenogears is better than xenosaga" or vice versa then leave
-
I love Xenogears. That game was amazing.
Then Saga came along and sort of ruined it. There were some cool characters, and a few cool ideas---all in all, it felt like I was going to see Episode I of Star Wars. Ruined it for me.
Cool lead characters at least.

dude
alright i will give you xenosaga because it is boring and pretentious and really fucking self-indulgent without being funny at all (although i still think the battle system is pretty okay and even sort of fun if you get into it, and the story is passable compared to shit like so3, even if it is marred by ZOHARS etc), but xenogears is a legitimately hysterical game! how can you not like it, at least as the biggest joke ever, if not a serious attempt at a game? it is kind of like star wars episode 3. looking into the camera with those evil eyes//BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL and all that hilariously bad shit. at first you watch it and go "wow this is terrible" but then after many times watching it it becomes more like "wait this is actually amazing."

\heh is there any other way...
also konix i can't believe you've heard nothing but bad things! like xenogears' story is pretty alright if a little on the totally crazy///fucking wacked (soylent green also chuchu crucified), and it is actually sort of fun to play since the combat system is at least a little interesting and new, and all that jazz. like as far as being a functional game goes, it does pretty alright. there are senseless religious references, and the story itself is actually a just composite of pretty much every well known science fiction movie in the past fifty years, but that is what makes it great. i wouldn't suggest playing xenosaga since it is megagay most of the time but xenogears does the same shit except makes it seem like it is some kind of big secret joke and not serious in the least, which i like! like as the game progresses it just gets more and more absurd and difficult to believe. the fact that it's also a functioning game with a decent battle system and solid gameplay (platformer elements kind of suck though :////), and a story that is honestly somewhat interesting at points is a bonus. do you know what i mean? like it is a DECENT GAME with okay story/battlesystem (not THEBEST but pretty good!) and then they went and added a bunch of totally off the wall and unnecessary shit, but it actually made the game better imo, whereas in xenosaga and most other games it just ruins them completely most of the time. i attribute this mostly to the fact that with xenogears i am still pretty sure it's some big fucking joke on the part of the developers.
-
I never got into any of these games and likely never will as I've heard nothing but bad things. Doesn't the series draw very heavily from christian mythology for no apparent reason at all? And also not in a creative way (if that's even possible) but basically in a clueless Japanese way that completely butchers its source of inspiration. If I remember correctly I think read that xenosaga 3 had jesus as a character in it. Anime jesus is where I draw the line.
Nah, he's not a character. The show him for like a tenth of a second on the cross. Yeshua is a character, however, along with Mary Magdoline. They were pretty creative about it, actually. KOS-MOS and this other robot chick were built to host the soul of Mary Magdoline, KOS MOS being the good side and the other being the bad. The story is basically that this dude is trying to reset the universe, as that is the way it should be, and the way it happens every time. (Apparently this exact scenario is supposed to have happened many times before) This is a very simplied, version of what happens. There's more to it and it explains why they're there, I just forget, really.
also... iguess............... i guess i won't like any anime in the usa then

i think what he is saying is that the game is better if you try to appreciate it like you would the stars wars christmas special or a b movie instead of v...video game magnum opus. i have been thinking of replaying it recently because i don't think i was playing it the right way. it's pretty unfair for me to dislike a game for being too ridiculous after making barkley, shut up and jam: gaiden.

Xenosaga blows, Xenogears has a hilariously bad plot.

talk to marcus about the second cd, he'll set you straight ;)

Um..Yeshua is the Hebrew name for Jesus just to let you now... so you play as Jesus..just not the son of God... but rather the Aionic Jesus...in other words the game states that there was 2 Jesus... 0 _ 0
-
Yeah. And it's even funnier because the scene where they do show Jesus, chaos is there listening to him preach on I think the Mount of Olives. Not sure. But chaos is with Mary Magdalene too. It's not very clear what their relationship is, and it gets even more confusing when chaos is named as Yeshua. The relationship is very unclear.
Xenosaga was pretty amazing until they threw in that Mary Magdalene stuff. I mean, it's fine to use religious symbols and stuff (I do all the time) but they have to be coherent.
Xenogears though was godly. I don't care if the story did have some areas of incoherency. It blew my mind and still blows my mind and every time I go through it I discover something new.
-
Yeah. And it's even funnier because the scene where they do show Jesus, chaos is there listening to him preach on I think the Mount of Olives.
Actually thats a very famous part of the bible called "Sermon at the Mount" that was the most important spech he gave because he did it infront of alot of people and he taught them the basic foundations for Christiaism(The beatitudes,Our Father etc etc),he also said that false phrophets would come in the future...and we see chaos staring into Jesus...hmm....

When I was 13 or so I thought Xenogears was the best thing that had ever happened to me, but after recently going back to try it again I realized that the writing is actually pretty bad. It's a solid RPG and everything I guess and there are definitely some memorably epic scenarios somewhere in there. However, I have to agree that it's just too ridiculous to take in if you have any experience whatsoever with literature outside of video games and any of the shit that it shamelessly and poorly rips off and reinterprets.
I can't say that I like Xenosaga I or II much either, but like Xenogears, in High School I was so completely fucking blown away by the first Xenosaga that it's actually sort of difficult to put it into words. Going back to play it again two years ago, I skipped all of the cutscenes because they were just awful and I was pretty sad when I discovered that the game was shorter than the Halo 3 singleplayer campaign. Xenosaga II was just sort of a bad game in general, but the trippy ending sequence with Junior and Albedo was really awesome. It was a barely tolerable game and I managed to finish it because it was short and inoffensive enough and the giant robot battles were a lot of fun.
But man, Xenosaga III is one of my top 5 favorite games ever. It's full of embarassing symbolism, but it has extremely tight gameplay and excellent design. Xenosaga III also boasts some of the coolest camera work and best music I've heard in a videogame (I do not generally like videogame music at all). The writing's actually pretty awesome too, if you ignore the symbolism, which is hard to do when Jesus is in your party. I always recommend people play Xenosaga III and skip the first two, but nobody ever does and not many people can tolerate the first two enough to even get the third game, which is excellent. As always, the giant robot battles are the highlight of the game, and holy shit are some of them epic. The giant robot boss scenes are some of my favorite bosses in videogames ever.

Xenogears is probably my favorite RPG after FF6. It has a great storyline and the gameplay is pretty awesome. The second CD is a bit meh but it's still enjoyable if you're into the story

Dude thats just like me! Let me guess..your third fav game is Chrono Trigger/Cross??

This is the worst thread ever only for the fact that otomon is replying to every post.

Xenogears rocked, it probably has the best story I've ever seen in a videogame.
I didn't really like Xenosaga though, the story/characters weren't very interesting,
and the most of the cutscenes were boring.

im tempted to play xenogears because i keep hearing that it rips off every sci-fi movie ever but i also hear BEST STORY EVER and i want to find out WHAT THE DEAL IS so maybe i'll play it one day
if it turns out that it does rip off a bunch of movies then most of the people in this topic suck

the thing is that these are not even mutually exclusive traits! people say it is one of the best rpg stories ever (the sad part is that it probably actually is, if only by default) in spite of the fact that it unashamedly rips off aspects of its story from numerous sources. like, there is a scene taken directly from soylent green ("OHGOD it is made of people" like hahahaha are you kidding me how do you overlook this), and that and other things do not really seem to bother any of the people who say it has one of the best stories ever. you are roman and i do not know you but since you aren't an idiot, you will probably think the story is absurd and totally ridiculous after a few hours, but it's also sort of cool so tbh you might like it at least a little bit! it is definitely not mind-blowingly good though, and xenogears fans constantly exaggerate the depth, scope, and general coherency of the plot. i think it's worth playing just for all of the things it rips off, if not because you aren't inclined to agree with all the people saying the game's incredible. because it's not -- it's just not bad either, aside from how needlessly convoluted it is 85% of the time, if you're willing to overlook how much of it is stolen. and if you can't overlook that part of it then it ends up being hilarious, so it's win win! either you get a decent rpg with solid gameplay or a hysterically badly plotted rpg (i mean it. hysterically) with solid gameplay. both options merit a playthrough of the game, imo.
-

I don't think it was "overlooked," since I seem to recall them referring to it as "The Soylent System." It was either intentional (albeit poorly pulled off) homage or the least elegant plagiarism ever.
-
hi. i meant overlooked in the sense that no one seems to even consider this or any of the other ripoffs when evaluating the game. i've never even seen anyone mention the fact that the game shamelessly steals many of its plot elements from other shit mentioned when reading a post about how great its story is.
-
As what it is, a foriegn RPG possesed of a complete fascination with things which are routine and common place to the eventual audience (although some of the religious references a bit esoteric for anyone outside of the seminary), it excells. It is basically a mirror - view Judeo Christian Iconography as well as western Philosophy from an outsider's point of view.
I think some things were botched in localization, but as I do not read any form of Japanese, this is at present an untestable theory.
I loved Xenogears when I first played it. If I hadn't loaned it to someone who moved away and never gave it back <grrrr>, I would likely have replayed it a couple times by now. When I play games, I don't really want to pick every element appart - so I didn't write a paper on comparitive religion and sci-fi psychobabble as I was playing - instead I played the game.
-
I really hate this stupid excuse of "it ripped" off, lets play a game ....what
game/song/story/book/person/script/movie/play/concert/anything ever created...hasn't "ripped off" something else, there is no such thing as an original concept anymore alright? You can link anything back to anything.
every concept is stolen/borrowed/inspired from another, whatever you want to label it as, its not 100% original, maybe the way it is presented, perhaps. I mean hello! Xenogears has MECHAS in it!!! It riped off Gundamn right? it has a guy that looks like BLANKA, Ripped off street fighter, wait he's green! a green overly strong person!? HULK, you bastards you ripped off the HULK.
wait a minute...the main character falls in LOVE!? ripped off Romeo and god damn fucking Juliet!
I'm in awe at your ability to cite the sources of the authors inspirations, but its not a FAULT.
HOWEVER; you say it directly stole from soylent green, as in un edited? what is soylent green...a movie right? are you saying xenogears took dialog from that movie unedited and placed it in the game? Or are you saying they use the same concept of "Hey, its made of humans!" because like I said there is no such thing as an original concept in this world any more. Everything can be linked back to something.
The only fault xenogears has is that the fans take the game way to seriously, its a game, it has no super DEPTH to it, infact the game seems to take itself to seriously.
-

...he kind of explained pretty well that they take the exact idea and label it a tribute, and the majority of the plot is actually this instead of legitimate plotting that would maybe garner the praise it gets.
-
I just recently beat Xenogears for the 1st time. I enjoyed the gameplay & even the plot quite alot. I should mention that besides a few more common things (heaven = good, hell = bad & a guy named Jesus who is actually the son of the christian god is cruxifed) I know next to nothing about Christianity so I might have enjoyed it alittle more than most if only because the symbolism is lost on me (I hadn't even heard of the Cain/Abel story till I got into Sandman like last year). As for the plagaristic aspects, yeah I picked up on some of them while playing the game but really this didn't bother me to much. I saw it less as stealing & more taking themes & ideas that they knew worked & attempting to make one solid plot using them. Of course technically that's still stealing but I can accept it more than say if they had solely taken ideas from one source & that's it (like how GrimGrimoire copies so much from Harry Potter). But the main question is would this story be better without them? I don't think so in the same sense that the GTA games wouldn't be the same without their many allusions to various movies & such.
Really the only thing that kinda irked me about Xenogears was that damn 2nd disc with it's lower production values & almost absent gameplay outside of battles. I play games mostly for the gameplay itself, even RPGs, so despite the fact that the 2nd disc's story is on the same level as the 1st disc's due to the huge hit in the gameplay area the 2nd disc really lowered my opinion of this otherwise excellent game. Despite all this Xenogears is still one of my most favorite RPGs, second only to Chrono Trigger & Legend of Mana which share the number 1 spot. But still Square Enix (or Monolith idk) needs to make a proper remake with a proper presentation of the 2nd disc somewhere down the line.
Now as for the Xenosaga games, despite owning episode 1 since the 1st day it was released, I have never played any of them (well to be truthful I DID play ep.1 through that VR training thing but really does that even count?). Now that I've beaten Xenogears along with most of my other more urgent RPGs (FFXII, DQVIII, Odin Sphere, Tales of Symphonia, Wild Arms 3, Star Ocean 3, all the PS2 Shin Megami Tensei games & Shadow Hearts: Covenent... I swear I NEVER thought I'd finish that backlog but I did) I might give Xenosaga a try sooner or later.

They were actually going to make 2 versions of Xenogears..Elly and Fei editions, but due to some problems they ended up making only 1 version with ever lower production values,as you migth already know since you beat Xenogears it is only 1 part of a 5 part story(Xenosaga episode 1 being part 1),its like a Star Wars kinda deal, first they made episode 5 then they made episode 1(Oh noes they ripped off Star Wars! Its the end of the world I tell ya!... :fogetnah: ),anyways long story short Xenogears was suposed to be the spiritual sequel to Chrono Trigger(btw did you notice Lucca in the first town?) hence why you the story as good as Chrono Trigger.

Xenogears and Xenosaga are not related. Xenosaga is more of a spiritual successor, they're not directly related.

Im sorry dude wikipedia articles are not a reliable source as they can be edited by anyone.. anyways they were going to connect the 2 games but since they had to end the series at episode 3 instead of 5...well they had to change the story alot...

no one is going to edit a wikipedia page just to prove you wrong. besides, there are people who revert shit seconds after it's changed so.

http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/xenosaga/news.html?sid=2823598
it was sourced so.
YM: Though the development team is the same, they were previously working under Square for Xenogears, and now they have shifted to Monolith Software for Xenosaga. But with our relation between Square, I think it is difficult for us to say it is a direct sequel or prequel. It's probably more suitable to say that it follows the direction and style of Xenogears.
GS: Watching the trailer, we can't help notice that there are some familiar faces from Xenogears. Are these characters somehow related in Xenosaga?
TT: Now that we are under a different company, we figured we should start everything from scratch all over again. Though there are familiar faces that serve as important characters in Xenosaga, others are more like self-parodies, so we don't really want Xenogears fans to overreact. Like movies, sometimes you have the director of the movie or friend of the leading actor appearing as cameos, so it's similar to that.
-
Wasn't Fei in Xenosaga 3? I think that was his first incarnation, the one called Abel, who starts the whole Zohar thing and Elly is created. If that IS Abel, then, that means if they HAD ever released XS4, it would probably start from where Deus attacked the ship, and it crashed into the planet XG is on. But since I never saw Deus, or anything related, it probably means Monolith messed up big time and thats why they cut it at ep3.
-
they stopped at ep 3 because it wasn't selling well in Europe. plus staff members were quitting

Well, thing is that the developers can't really say it's a direct prequel to Xenogears. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be one though. If I still cared much about all this, I'd probably go and look a few things up but I really don't so I'll just go with I THINK it's supposed to be a direct prequel, with Xenogears being the fifth installment in the series. There were supposed to be 6 games in total.
-
Yeah actually if I remember correctly it actually says episode 5 at the end of Xenogears (does this mean that Xenosaga Episode 5 would have been a Xenogears remake & Episode 6 a sequel :hmm: ?).
Because of this (& because after reading that wiki page they mention alot of nods to Xenogears in that alot of characters have similar or the same surnames, are in similar situations or have gears similar to the person they resemble from Xenogears) I think it does have something to do with Xenogears & they actually thought of it as a prequel while making it but they can't official say it is due to legal issues & would rather it be seen more as "following the direction & style of Xenogears" instead of a prequel to a game series originally made by another company.
Of course I haven't played Xenosaga yet & I'm just basing my theory on the ending of Xenogears & a wiki page so I could just be talking out my ass here.
EDIT: I just played the beginning of Xenosaga & even the Zohar is in it.
ANOTHER EDIT: Xenosaga uses memory cubes as the save point too? I wonder what's the story there. Well if they're not related this is a strange conquincidence (they even make the same sound too). Man, you can't tell me that they didn't atleast think of this as a prequel when they were making it.
I know I'm gonna beat Xenosaga sooner or later now if not simply to speculate about how it's related to Xenogears.
YET ANOTHER EDIT: 2 words: Shion Uzuki

dude did you even read it? it had direct quotes from the creators saying it was a spiritual successor to Xenogears
Like I previously mentioned IT IS A WIKIPEDIA article, even if it says those are quotes from the creator they aren't necessarily real!

Holy fuck you are dumb. (no offense but jesus Wikipedia is actually a pretty accurate deal if you know how to use it)
It references an interview on GameSpot.
READ STEELS WHOLE POST NOW PLZ:
http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/xenosaga/news.html?sid=2823598 <--SEE THIS? THIS IS A LINK THAT WIKIPEDIA REFERENCED TO PROVE THAT ITS NOT A LIE?
it was sourced so.
<-- this is you wrong

Hmm..did you read the other replies in this thread? Even if that interview states that Xenosaga is only a spiritual sucessor... they aint fooling us! They just cant say its a direct sequel due to legal rigth... :fogetshh:

Man seriously, stop trying! Wikipedia articles are posted and updated by hundreds, thousands of members and I can assure you the information you find there is real. Let's not get into any stupid wiki argument here but whatever your teacher or whoever has told you about wiki not being a trustworthy source is bullshit.

And, you know, you can always check the sources that Wiki articles site if in doubt. But really it's pretty retarded that Wikipedia gets dumped on by professors and stuff because it's been proven (National Public Radio ran a study) that it's between 95%-100% as accurate as the Encyclopedia Britannica for scholarly information. So . . .
I think a lot of High School kids misinterpret the message "don't use Wikipedia as a source for a scholarly article" as "Wikipedia is wrong". You can always USE Wikipedia as a research tool, but like any other article that has citations and references, you *always* cite the original source of the information and not the place that you read it (such as Wikipedia or the Encyclopedia or Newsweek or whatever).
But yeah there isn't anything to say about Wikipedia beyond this, and the whole thing got started because there's someone discussing here that doesn't even know the basics of research, so let's not get too involved in this subthread.

The episode 5 thing at the end of Xenogears is referring to Xenogears Perfect Works, which is a book. The first three episodes of Xenogears Perfect Works in no way resemble Xenosaga episodes I-III.

Oh ok.
Yeah I've heard of Perfect Works but I've never read it.
-
I was given to understand that Xenosaga I-III were all part of Xenogears Perfect Works' Episode 2. Are you sure they don't resemble it at all? I'm pretty sure things like the Miltia conflict and the collection of the Anima emulators were mentioned in PW.

The games are connected regardless of what the other people in this thread say,I'm just tired of arguing with stubborn people because I'm just as stubborn...the truth is this debate has been going on for a while in many different forums, sites, heck I even heard people talking about it on the bus... anyways lets look at all the similarities:
-Lucca (from Chrono Trigger) is found on the first town of Xenogears..could it have been a tribute,or just a cameo from Chrono? Strange they stopped making Chrono games after Cross...
-Fei`s first incarnation was the first person to engage and control the Zohar to some extent
-Nephilim incarnates as a human child during Xenosaga and we can guess she is adopted by someone..strangely enough we see the Eldridge`s captain looking at a picture of Nephilim and some other women during the intro to Xenogears
-We see both Abel and Nephilim as Fei and Elly during Xenogears
This alone would make an instant connection to Xenosaga...but wait there are also some things that dont connect!
-The Eldridge is launched THE SAME YEAR XENOSAGA STARTS(which is T.C. 4768)
-The E.S or Gears became oboslete at the end of Xenosaga
-We see KOS-Mos floating towards the a Xenogears-planet lookalike at the end of Xenosaga(this is a difference because we dont see KOS-MoS anywhere on Xenogears)
Anyways Im tired of tipying lol...discuss!
-
Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that they're really linked directly or anything. Xenosaga is more like an Alternate Universe History of the Xenogears world, if you will. I just mean that I'm pretty sure it at least took some stuff from Episode II in Perfect Works, and that some of the history seemed in line with the stuff in Episode I.
-

Are you joking now? I know dragonslayer just SILENCED at your ridiculousness but diohdsfjdfudgashousdgapasfiudhasgyuf
I don't know whether you are joking or if you really think shit like THIS
And too all who think this tribute idea is gay..well maybe it has to do with the fact that im bisexual?
And then you say shit like THIS
Must be due to the whole "dating" thing... its pretty lame... Shin Megami Tensei(the one for snes) had a naked chick rigth at the beggining..but it didnt get much attention...
.
I don't even know how to correlate all of this but each game you mention has NAKED PEOPLE so let's just assume that's your number one favourite thing about video games. (Even Riviera, which has a scene with a bunch of naked little girls).
I don't know if this is how you truly think or if you are saying it for shock effect but your opinions are TERRIBLE and it would probably help you here alot if you kept them to yourself. You think google and wikipedia are unreliable which is... wow. I mean, Wikipedia is full of RESEARCHED INFORMATION, and google... I don't know how it could be unreliable. It searches what you need PRETTY WELL if you're not totally incompetent and know how to use search engines properly.
Seriously though MAYBE IT'S GAY BECAUSE I AM BISEXUAL
-
what the hell man i thought they crucified that little pink faggot
Thats one of the dumbest parts of Xenogears unless you understand the symbolism behind it...that Krealian was wrong and that his ideas where drawing him away from God instead of towards him.. but as a 13 year old teenager that I was when I first played it.. I was like "WTF!! Blashphemy! Burn Japan!"
Another dumb scene is when Fei and Elly have sex...they just show them kissing and them BAM they are just liying on the bed.. :(
-

Now wait just a gosh darned minute! What the hell would you consider manly? A pink fluff getting slashed to bits as the villian laughs at him and then proceeds to suck its blood and piss all over the dead body? and then the villain continues to rape his own dad?
Yall straight boys are sick!!! SICK I TELL YOU!!
VIVA LA REVOLUCION!!!
-
that'd be pretty hot in a strictly heterosexual way.
-
holy shit that would be awesome
minus the raping his own dad part that's pretty weird

Well Halo 3 was also the best-selling game in Japan for the week it released.
So
Whatever. This thread is pretty much completely ruined.

Actually Yeshua along with Nephilim did save existence, his whereabouts where unknown after he did,we do know one thing...after Xenosaga...if its connected to Xenogears at all,Nephilim got adopted by someone...

How to enjoy Xenosaga's ending:
-Beat final boss one.
-Beat final boss two.
-Watch cutscenes.
-Cry.
-Watch credits.

-Shut off TV and PS2.
-Never thing about Xenosaga again.

Xenogears was neat before I realized it was the bastard child of Chrono Trigger and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Has anyone mentioned Blanka yet? A third comment about element that Xenogears "borrowed" from a different video game/cartoon/comic book.
But hey! It did have a giant pink... furry... thing... that was one of the most useful Gears because it could cast a healing spell on the Gears! That's... that's something! Also, incest! Wooh incest! And naked little robot girls. Wait none of these are good things sorry.
Although it was neat how it blew the lid on the whole "Numerous Catholic priests molesterate children" scandal, and I liked some of the Gear designs (although a lot of them kinda sucked, like, why does Elly's have a gawdamn ponytail?). I could have done without the intrusive religious imagery. HEY LOOK ITS A CROSS SWINGING IN THE BACKGROUND HOW DEEP IS THAT??
-
i liked renmazuo a lot. and bart and citan's were pretty nice too. also SEIBZEHN or whatever, even though it was kind of blocky (wasn't it a powerhouse when you first got it/the girl who piloted it at the top of the tower of babel though?). i wasn't too big on the xenogear when i finally got it, as it was a little flashy and i was pretty disappointed it was not something really awesome! i also hated the one without ARMS a lot. like, a lot. most of my favorite ones, though, aside from renmazuo, were enemy ones. i think id or whoever might've had a good one, and the main enemies usually had really cool ones as well, barring the weird animal ones those chicks had (wasn't there a dolphin?). the one on the cover of the manual that belonged to ramsus i think was really cool. i think it is actually part of the reason i even bought the game over alundra or whatever else i was considering.

See, but the bastard child of Chrono Trigger and Neon Genesis Evangelion would be awesome if you could just get rid of Shinji and make the star either the military otaku or Kaworu. Otaku!Chronogelion could probably pull some Nadesico into it, too, which would bring it to epic levels of awesome.
My favorite of the gears was probably either El Renmazuo or El Crescens. Too bad El Crescens didn't make it into the game. T_T

My personal favorite gear was Proto Omega,Huge gear and its made of pure gold!! It is also powered by the power of God himself ;)

F*CK YOU ALL.
Weltall-2 all the way baby!

There is something I never understood...was Virgil a Testament while he was in the Woglinde? But he died in Miltia! But he also died in Woglinde! @#$% *head explodes* Im so confused...

Well, now that this is bumped back from the oblivion of 2007, why should I bother with Xenosaga?
-
you shouldn't.
-
Is this the game where they crucify a moogle?
-
Generic response from one who is unable to accept his generic existance.
Really? Judging from the way the response was put out, I assumed it was taken from a scene in one of the Halo games. (You know, to prove some kind of point) Although I never played through them all the way (I don't play halo for the story, only for the gun on gun violence), so I couldn't know for sure.
In fact, I never played any Xenogears games nor do I ever intend to. (I'm sure it's a great game, it's just stuff like that is always so time consuming, I figure I only have a certain percentage of time in my life to play only so many Japanese RPG games, and so many are on my list just above this one) I literally have absolutely no business in this topic.
-
You actually quoted some from 2007? jeeeeeesus
-
I was too high to understand what was going on with Xenogears, I might have to pick that up again. I don't know about Xenosaga, though... I know Xenogears is like "anime", but Saga looks like .Hack or something.

I Love these old thread bumps.... Im a necrophiliac XD
-
I played the first two episodes of Xenosaga it was a pretty decent movie I guess. Apparently there was some gameplay in there but i missed it!
-
I felt that way about MGS2.
I remember Xenogears had these wall-of-text moments. My mind would go numb after a while, and I'd completely miss the new goal or plot twist. They should have implemented some kind of main idea single-page powerpoint presentation with bullet points to summarize everything after they throw a novella at you (that you can't go back and read again).
-
Yeah, it got especially bad on Disc 2, which I think literally has like three hours of gameplay, and at least double that of dialogue. Although I did sort of love the almost surreality of the characters talking directly to the screen, narrating the story as if it already happened.
Really weird design choice, especially considering how relatively straightforward Disc 1 is.
As for Xenosaga, I liked the first one, but couldn't really get through the second one; I hated the battle system. As slow as the battle system is in Episode 1, the revamped version in Ep. 2 was far more annoying to me due to the confusing 'break' system. So, I stopped like halfway through and never played the third one either.
-
The third one took the best from the first two battle systems and got rid a lot of the bad. The break thing in two was pretty horrible near the end game. You had to charge up your boosts so you could chain two characters together to get the right break sequence, and then hope for the best. Some of the battles near the final boss took an obscene amount of time, unless I was just screwing up a lot.
I liked the battle system in the first Xenosaga though, because you could customize and abuse it more. I remember checking a guide when I got to a boss I thought was just an easy kill that lulls you in before a bigger boss. Turned out the guide said he was one of the toughest in the game, and I was walking all over him. The trick for me was to assign a "hit all" skill to one of the easy button combos, and then just harvest skill points in that forest with the goblins, or whatever they were, that rushed you at least six at a time. Late game, I was using my characters for the AGWS battles because they were faster, and could hit harder.
As for disc 2 of Xenogears, I remember when I re-played it once I was a little older the thought hit me that maybe they were running out of money or production time, so they condensed it to a big run on cutscene with boss fights, and two and a half dungeons thrown in because they had the foresight to create them early in the development cycle. I still really enjoyed the game, it just felt rushed at the end.

This is one of the most discussed topics regarding XS2.. the whole break thing was a hit or miss kinda thing,if you fully understood it you could pwn any boss in the game,I remember "juggling" the last boss, haha that was hilarious but then after I realized I had just beaten XS2.. had to wait like a year for XS3... :(

Unfortunately I lost a really good picture of somebody saying something like "The -Shepherds- Abel abandoned their flock, the surface dwelling -Lambs-." I really liked that.
