Title: remix-a-thon
Post by: local_dunce on November 02, 2007, 12:13:32 pm
Hey, some of us guys over at music-creation have put together a short little project that we felt like sharing with you general forum people. We figured this is okay seeing as it was a COMMUNITY PROJECT rather than some guy HEY I MAKE MUSIC. I guess if you really want to send it back to music-creation then that's cool, but don't.

THE GAMINGW COMMUNITY FORUM REMIX-A-THON PROJECT

I know this being a remix project probably doesn't appeal to most people but for the most part it is pretty good so if you have any slight interest at all then I suggest you check it out.

Thanks Guys!

Okay, I'm not sure if I got all this correct so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Daf Unk is a remix of Da Funk by Daft Punk.
Freak is a remix of LFO - Freak
New York Blues is a remix of New York Blues by Xerxes
Anno Adomini 1000 is a remix of 1000AD from the Chrono Trigger Soundtrack
Face 2 Face is a remix of another Daft Punk song but I am not sure which (maybe of the same name.)
One Night in #gamingw is a remix of One Night in Hackney by Dave the Drummer
and Thirst Motor is a remix of Burst Generator by the Chemical Brothers.

Bunnymilk's remix actually makes that song listenable now :)

The Chrono Trigger remix is awesome - I forgot how cool and trancey that melody was.

I think everyone did really well in this project considering the short amount of time we took to throw it together. Everything is really top quality and quite diverse from Drule's and TheMonster's more ambient remixes, Ramael's airy House influenced stuff and Lars' and Ragnar's more synth-based pounding sounds.
The whole project is pretty great.

01 - Daf Un - Worked well as the first track, got the ball rolling so to speak.
02 - Count Chocula Megamix - WEIRDED OUT, but it is a nice track.
03 - New York Blues - Chill man, really chill. Chill to the bone even.
04 - Anno Domini 1000 - Best track on the collection, maybe because of the original being so damn good but I really liked this.
05 - Face 2 Face - This one was very grooving and it almost got me moving.
06 - One Night in #gamingw - Great plot but musically a bit dull except for the gabbergabbergabbergabbergabber section.
07 - Thirst Motor - It's Chemical Brothers but still sounded like BunnyMilk, you're really defining a sound for yourself.

Overall good work shame that I couldn't participate. Maybe next time!

Btw

my remix is actually LFO - Freak lol link because nobody knows what my songs are (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53Zq1I5_WAA) plus bits of Resident Evil 4 OST - Infiltration (it's in a lot of areas in the game but I know for one it's the music when you're in the castle's dining room and when you start out on the Island chapter)

Also it's all bits of either song, I like the challenge of actually physically rearranging bits of the song into something new

Edit: Man I just realized the album art has a background image to it. These monitors at school are REALLY DIRTY

01 - Daf Unk - A good track, although a bit repetitive near the end. Only a bit, though!
02 - Count Chocula Megamix - Welcome to the technodrome, buddy! I really liked this song, it was pretty hardcore! I could also really hear the RE4 sample, but it was used really well so that is not a bad thing.
03 - New York Blues - I didn't recognize the original song, but this had a very relaxing, twangy feel.
04 - Anno Domini 1000 - A very good remix of a very good song.
05 - Face 2 Face - I could really imagine hearing this in a club. Good stuff!
06 - One Night in #gamingw - This was hilarious and could easily make a good driving track with all the sweet bass.  You really sounded like a DJ giving a voiceover! This was my favourite track on the album!
07 - Thirst Motor - Started off a bit slow, but it really got good fast past the minute mark.

Hahaha, that's really nice to hear because the first minute is almost entirely the original song, re-edited slightly and the minute mark is pretty much where I started taking some creative influence.

I am really glad it is not the other way around, otherwise I'd feel really bad!

Ragnar - Nice work man, I was gettin' into it. Maybe a little too much distortion for my tastes? EQ could use some work because it was a little muddled. But cool shit anyway.
Drule - As a piece of music this was nice, but the quality of the instruments let me down. It was cool but I was a bit put off by the quality of the different sounds. So... A cool song, but maybe find some better sounds??
TheMonster - Nice man... There was a lot going on in this one and at times it almost seems to stray from its purpose but then pulls right back with that keyboard sample. Good going.
Lars - Definitely not my type of electronic music... But having said that, I can still appreciate what you've done. The narration was funny, I enjoyed it. But like I said... Not my thing. Too heavy.
bunnymilk - You can definitely hear the phaser/flange effects in this. They are suitable... but bordering on distracting in my opinion. You have some really good ideas. As soon as the track hits the one minute mark, things really pick up. I might have reconsidered the clap/snare sound however... it is a little overpowering. But yeah, some good ideas and a nice way to close our little project.

That cover art is the best cover art I have ever seen come out of any GW project ever.

Except The Sound Of Milk And Cookies.

Wish I had time to participate in this! Downloading now.

Man I just listened through this and I've always felt that my songs have been in the top tier in the GW projects that I have submitted to, but fuck. This project makes me ASHAMED of what I delivered.

Ramael and Ragnar fucking dominated this. Seriously.
